The Kings Head and Bell might just be the most interesting and welcoming pub in Abingdon. Considering the proud history of brewing and recent pub resurgence in Abingdon, that's saying something.
I've been here a few times now. I'd say the chief attraction is the history of the place - finding a pub that is 100 years old is one thing, but 450 years? Wow! A stirring reminder of Abingdon's heritage in fact. The lighting, fire, beams and comfy chairs all makes this a very cosy place to spend an afternoon.
The King's Head & Bell seems to be a freehouse, which is refreshing and the beer offerings are always solid, from top local brewers (think Loose Cannon and Hook). The Sunday roast is pretty good too. One hiccup was that it came without some of the vegetables advertised, but when we pointed this out the manager offered us complimentary drinks, a very generous remedy in the circumstances.
Service is friendly, professional and quick too. In all, the Kings Head & Bell is a real gem in Abingdon's current pub scene. read more
