I have been coming to this place for a long time and, until today, had no complaints. Today I brought in a coffee from the coffee shop down the street, thinking nothing of it. In fact, I thought that a place called "The Kind Cafe" might appreciate someone supporting another local business. Instead, I was told to cover up my coffee with a sleeve. It struck me as a very odd request, but I complied anyway. After that, the experience became increasingly uncomfortable. I overheard the barista making comments to other customers such as, "Thanks for choosing our place for your drink order." Given the context, it felt very clearly directed at me. The comment was made publicly, in front of other customers, and came across as an attempt to shame me for bringing in a coffee from somewhere else. Then he asked me what kind of drink I had gotten. After I answered, he responded, "Oh, I thought it was something special," with a tone that felt sarcastic and dismissive. At that point, I asked him directly whether I had offended him by bringing in a coffee from another business. He told me that outside drinks were not allowed but delivered the message with an attitude that felt unnecessarily hostile. I explained that I had never been informed of this policy and genuinely did not know. I also told him that I felt he was trying to make me feel bad about it. His response was essentially, "I wasn't trying to make you feel bad, but whatever." The policy itself is not the issue. Had someone politely informed me that outside drinks were not allowed, I would have respected that immediately. What bothered me was being publicly embarrassed and treated with passive-aggressive disrespect over what was clearly an innocent mistake. I've been a regular customer for years and order from this place nearly every week. This was the first time I had ever brought in a coffee from somewhere else. Being treated this way by both the owner and the main barista was disappointing and completely at odds with the values this business claims to represent. For a place that calls itself "The Kind Cafe," this was one of the least kind customer interactions I've experienced in a long time. Perhaps this is an opportunity for some reflection on what kindness actually feels like from the customer's side of the counter. read more

Delicious coffee and food. Many coffee options and baristas are very knowledgeable. The cheesy apple sandwhich was phenomenal! Wonder if they can add blackberries to it. We stopped here on a long car ride from Rochester to Virginia. We will be stopping again next time! It was worth it to get off the beaten path (for a very little bit, in the scheme of things) to eat here. We were disappointed we'd already had too much coffee for the day because it all looked so good. The service was a little blah but I'm okay with that, as long as the food is good. Took a while to make our sandwiches, but it was a bit early in the day (11:15 a.m.) and it gave us time to use the (clean) restrooms and look around the cute little place. I had the chicken Caesar wrap - HUGE amount of greens and some chicken (maybe not enough for some) and - get this - croutons(!!) in there, all with a great-tasting but not overly done dressing. It was so big it was shareable. But I managed to eat the whole thing. Couldn't have done any better on that wrap!! It came with chips and a really good pickle spear too! My hubby had the EBLT. SO huge. Not the easiest to eat while driving haha but an amazing sauce on there that just MADE the sandwich so much better than a boring BLT, even with an egg on it. Sure wish we had this little gem closer to us! Great little downtown vibe and quaint area. Next time, we won't skip the coffee, no matter how much we've had already! read more

We ordered food and were warned of a 35min wait. We debated leaving but heard the food was good so decided to stay. They came out after 20 min and told us they were out of ham and we substituted chicken, thinking our food was coming out soon. Another 30 minutes still no food. We were in view of the lady who took our order and she could see we had no food. When we checked we were told they lost our order and it would be another 10ish minutes to rush it. We left and they refunded our order- poor service and kitchen management (btw only one sandwich came out of the kitchen every 6-7 minutes. My friend and I stopped in yesterday. We are from out of town. Stopped in after a day of thrifting. We were immediately greeted by a man who was enthusiastic and friendly! He let us know they were out of mushrooms and onions which was no bother.I got the panini with ham and turkey and it was actually really incredible. I loved the peppers on it. I also got a coffee and it was yummy. The cafe is cute. It wasn't too loud and I loved how they have art for sale on the walls. I'll definitely be back if I'm ever passing through again read more

We have been to the "sister cafe" in Lewisburg and loved it. The first thing when we came that happened was we were told they were out of ham, which eliminated our top sandwich choices. The 3 sandwiches we ordered were swimming in mayonnaise that is was difficult to eat. The spicy balsamic slaw was more mayo than anything else. I noticed most customers left theirs uneaten so it wasn't just me. Needed to stop for lunch while passing through town. Found The Kind Café! Ordered the Turkey Panini and Sunflower Salad with a medium Mocha. Split all food with my friend and it was the perfect portion for both of us. Very quick service and very clean building. I was very please with the selection, speed of the kitchen and price. The Kind is one of the most adorable places to eat in Selinsgrove. It's got such cute vibes inside -- from the local art hanging on the wall (which is mostly available for sale to my knowledge by the way) to the little metal figurines marking the bathroom doors in the back. It's a perfect place to order brunch or lunch up at the counter and pop a squat with a friend or two. Students in the area often buckle down with their laptop here to get work done. Seating is somewhat limited and it can get pretty cramped around 11 on the weekends, but I almost always find a seat somehow, some way when I stop in. And you do have to wait in line to pick up your order even if you called ahead of time. Something else to note is the air inside can get pretty thick and the Kind has a bit of a heavy aroma to it that will really stick to your clothes and hair. It's not bad, but not ideal if you've got somewhere fancy to go after the fact. My personal favorite to order for breakfast is the EBLT. Delicious! And for lunch, you can't go wrong with the Chicken Caesar Wrap. They make their own dressing and it's absolutely to die for. I'll surely be back again soon. read more

Went to this cafe for a change of scenery for my parents. Mom was celebrating her birthday, so my sons and I met her and dad here after church. Not very busy around 12:30 on a Sunday. Friendly staff, eclectic decor, good food. I had a chicken Caesar wrap, a brown sugar cinnamon latte and shared a cranberry orange muffin between the 5 of us. The food was tasty. Mom and oldest son had breakfast wraps, dad had a Caesar wrap and my youngest had a butcher panini. Everyone was pleased with their choices. All in all? A great experience for a reasonable price. On street parking was not an issue at all. I would certainly recommend this cafe for anyone looking for a new experience that doesn't mirror a Starbucks cafe which can sometimes lack personality and warmth. read more

My family stopped by The Kind Cafe on our way to upstate NY for some lunch - three paninis and a wrap. But before I go further I should point out that the side of spicy balsamic slaw added a unique kick of flavor. All of the paninis were made with bakery-quality bread that absorbed the ingredients without getting overly moist. The Mushroomlyn was a vegetarian (not vegan) delight, especially because of the carmelized onions and garlic Mayo. My daughters thought that the Beach Bum and the Pesto Chicken were "plump boys" with bread that wasn't made flat and generous fillings. My friend and I dined here during a day trip to Sellinsgrove. It was the perfect spot for lunch on a cold day. Warm and cozy inside we both liked the boho, casual feel. Meter free street parking right out front was a bonus but they also have a few private spots in the back. You order at the counter and they bring your meals out to you. They had board games and books to keep you entertained while you waited. They had an assortment of panini's, salads, coffees and teas. We both ordered panini's and I ordered a soup as well. No complaints with our panini's. The bread was fresh, crusty and warm on the outside, soft and warm on the inside. Portion size was perfect. Prices were fair. My soup; a sweet potato chipotle bisque; however had room for improvement. It was served lukewarm and very one note. I missed the heat of the chipotle and it had the texture of baby food. The addition of sunflower seeds for salt and texture would be my recommendation to really make it shine. Overall a very positive experience and a gem of a cafe in a cute, quaint little town. We'll be back next time we come for a visit. read more

Loved the atmosphere here and would come back for that. It was super busy at lunch, so my soup took over 20 minutes for them to bring to me. Even though it was already cooked and waiting behind the counter. It was extremely hot, so I also have to let it cool for 10 minutes before I could eat it. They called it chili, but I would say it was just a spicy vegetable soup. Still delicious, but not what I was expecting. I had a decaf chocolate peanut butter latte and a gluten free peanut butter cookie. I'd order the cookie again, but try something else from the lunch and coffee menu.
