The Kidds Place - Pediatric Dentists Near Me - Spokane, Washington

Do not go here! I never had a great feeling about this place but continued to go against my better judgment. I should add that we were using state insurance for dental and there were not a lot of options out there. My 14-year-old daughter was told daughter she had about 15 cavities (some of the cavities were very large and were over large sections of each tooth) all over her teeth despite never having had any cavities prior and none at her very last check up. My daughter was aging out of their children's office and this was her last appointment with The Kidds's Place (besides the procedural part that they tried to schedule). Well, I had my alarm bells going off internally so I did not make any appointments to fix those "cavities". Instead I decided to purchase her dental insurance and find a new dentist. We just had her first appointment at her new dental office and they told my daughter she had no cavities and had beautiful teeth. I repeat: do not go here! They are scammers and corrupt. I knew something was off and I am so glad I didn't give in and allow my daughter's teeth to be butchered. The fact that they would do this to a child's teeth, therefore affecting future oral health, is beyond reprehensible. read more

So, I aged out of their program, (I'm 14) it was my last (unless I needed cavities taken care of) appointment; they told me I had fifteen to TWENTY cavities and that I needed to come back for fillings asap, even though I've never had a cavity on my adult teeth in my LIFE. My mom felt off about the whole thing, so we canceled the appointments and I got into a new dentist. (North Cedar Dental; it's great for teens who can't go to kids dentists anymore!) It's been 2 months; I just had my first appointment at the new dentist: I have zero cavities. None. Absolutely NONE. I repeat, LEAVE!!! The dentist doesn't care if your child's teeth are permanently damaged; This place is a scam and you deserve to know that. We should have looked at the reviews. They recommended getting 8 crowns on our 8 year old WITHOUT DOING X RAYS. We went with their recommendations without getting a second opinion. Second mistake. After doing the procedures and paying multiple thousands of dollars, they have the audacity to come and ask for an additional $2,000. We talked to another dentist after the fact who said that although he can't say for certain without first hand knowledge, he doubted can't of the procedures were necessary. Parents, do NOT go to the Kidds Place Dentist. Especially if they need work. We switched dentists and they confirmed Kidds Place did terrible crowns. His lips got cut and infected when they put the crowns on, also a little later one of the crowns got infected and had to be pulled. His bite was uncomfortable and he couldn't shut his mouth properly, so we went in for an adjustment, but she looked and said it was fine and didn't do anything about it. We recently were referred to an orthodontist, and they confirmed the terrible crown work, his molars and adult teeth can't grow in, the crowns are too big and bad. Now he needs early braces due to their terrible work. On another note, they just want to put kids under anesthesia for everything too, which I didn't like. We switched to Children's Choice and like them much better. Wish I switched earlier. read more

This is an update to my previous review from 2020. What I thought was excellent care, has turned into unnecessary dental care. My child was told she needed both the lip and tongue tie surgery that in hindsight was not necessary. In 2023, on Halloween, they stated that my child needed 2 cavities filled and they could do them that day. My husband was not about to ruin the day and said no. We questioned the cavities since they stated they were small and were on baby teeth so we got a second opinion and there were no cavities to fill. They have created a business of finding problems to increase/keep a revenue stream. Needless to say, we are no longer patients there. Question all recommended dental procedures before just assuming it is needed. read more

STAY AWAY! Staff will lie to you, not stand behind their own policies and cancel your appointments for no reason out of nowhere. I booked appointments for my kids, a week before the appointments they called me back to back 4 times while I was in a meeting without leaving a message. Then I got a text saying they needed insurance 48 hours in advance, which was no problem. I had my husband call and they told him that wasn't the correct insurance. So I text them and told them that I would get them the correct insurance since we have 2 but it's not going to be right away since I was in a meeting. They wrote back that it was fine so I finished my meeting and went home by the time I got home it was like 630pm and they were closed so I figured I'll just call in the morning since we still have 6 days. Nope woke up to a text saying they canceled both my kids appointments!? I can understand if there was no communication or if it was the day before the appointment but nope. So just save yourself the time and energy of dealing with this place if you don't want to be lied to. read more

Best dentist in the region...period! The office staff, the dental work, ​ even the emergency line are excellent!

Well I had High marks for this office until recently. When I live an hour away and was going to be 10 minutes late due to traffic I called to let them know and they cancled my appt. But when I rescheduled and got here 10 minutes early and they were running more than 10 min behind I'm expected to just be okay with that because their time is more important. And the appt was to fix a tooth they didn't properly fix the first time. Lost some confidence when the treatment plan changed becasue the first xray showed something but a repeat xray didn't. So now I'm worried all the work they did on my son's teeth according to the first xray could have also been a mistake... read more

Stay away from this dentist!!! I took my 3 year old daughter there in 2020, Dr. Cathy convinced me that my toddler needed 4-6 crowns (front of her mouth). Lucky for me I moved shortly after and took my daughter to a pediatric dentist in my new state and she told me that my daughter absolutely did NOT need any crowns! I would highly recommend finding a different dentist, or at the very least getting a second opinion. It is highly unethical to be advising crowns for toddlers/kids when it's not truly needed! read more

My daughter has very bad anxiety everytime she sees a dentist after she had quite a bit of dental work done at another dentistry. We made an emergency appointment at The Kidds Place for a second opinion and they got us in that day. The amazing people there made her feel like they were all best friends from the start. They were so very gentle and kind. We did not feel rushed or as if we were just another patient. We will be making this our primary location and I will highly recommend to anyone else. And I cannot say enough about how AMAZING Dr Cathy is! She is kind, explains everything she is doing and quickly gained the trust of my kids. I would not be taking my two year old back here even had I not received a letter from them informing me that they wouldn't be caring for my child's 'oral health' and essentially telling me that I am not doing my job as a parent. I took my daughter here at six and eighteen months as well as two years. I insisted that her father go with us for the two year appointment because at the one prior I knew I felt uncomfortable taking her there but I wanted the confirmation that I wasn't overreacting or something. There aren't too many things that we agree on but this was probably the easiest thing we have ever had to decide. When we left the appointment we both immediately said we need a new dentist and this is why: I am a first time parent who tends to ask a lot of questions because, as we all know, knowledge is power and I don't want to ruin her teeth, health, behavior, etc and feel unsure of myself re: being a mom. So while the hygienist was with us initially, I asked her if she had any suggestions to get my toddler to actually brush. She enjoys the ritual itself but the actual brushing that gets done is sub par. She cheerfully told me that she pins her three year old down daily, morning and night and does it for her, and even though her child screams the entire time she knows it's best. When the doctor came out she reconfirmed this recommendation. She said, that together we just have to pin her down twice a day and do it till she figures it out, always assuming that we live in the same home... which we do not and live a ways from each other while sharing custody. When I asked about potential trauma that may come from this resulting in a disinclination to brushing for years to come, she poo-poo'd me telling me, no she will be fine. She then had us practice our technique of restraining our daughter in what I can only describe as a wrestling move and if you can believe it, yes, she flipped out, screaming bloody murder. But still I thought, she's the doctor so I suppose that despite my instinct telling me this was maybe not the best way I could try it at least a few times. Next we were told that she has at least five cavities and that we need to give her our adult toothpaste even though it upsets her stomach due to reflux. Again, she'll be fine. So then comes the fluoride. Since she has been six months old they have been putting fluoride on her teeth at the appointment as well as prescribing fluoride drops and the fluorinated kids toothpaste. To me this seems rather excessive. However when I asked about it I was polite (especially since I was unaware of the reaction I would get) just wanting to know do we need the fluoride every day even though she gets it every six months at her check ups and in daily toothpaste. She seemed to get defensive at this telling me condescendingly and not a little impatiently, listen I am the doctor, I went to school, got the degree and this is what I am telling you to do. To me it felt like not only was I being reprimanded but also shamed. Not the best way to feel considering that I would be coming here every six months or so. Then came the letter which confirmed what I had been feeling. Highlights of it include: 'Treatment of any kind depends on the knowledge, skill and cooperation of the dentist, hygienist and most importantly, the patient and the parent.' 'Successful treatment can only be achieved when a symbiotic relationship based on trust and confidence exists between parents and our provider.' 'Earnest effort must exist on the part of the parents to consistently assist with effective homecare as well as partnering with us in managing your child's oral health.' So what I got from that was 'you are being uncooperative by questioning me. You need to blindly do what I tell you to even if it doesn't feel right to you or you will be fired as a patient.' It is clearly all for the best but be warned: having questions and concerns are not welcomed or allowed here. **Apologies for the length of this review. I'm really surprised to read any poor feedback about KiDDs Place Dentistry. I have been taking my kids there for years and the staff, dental hygienists, and dentists are amazing. Likewise, the facility is super kid friendly and puts my kids at ease. My children range from teenager to toddler and they all love going to the dentist. I've never had any problem with the service or billing. For anyone seeking a new pediatric dentist and reading these posts, please remember that no matter how great a business is, there will always be a few disgruntled customers, but their opinions in no way reflect reality. We put up with unpleasant office staff for years because we liked the doctors/hygienists. However, they just donated my sons new leather coat without contacting me. When I called about it the first time I was told "no problem, we'll put his name on it". It had been 40 some days (they were closed when I went to get and then 2 wk vacation during holidays), but they didn't give me a time limit. Office manager was so rude about it- ugh! read more

We requested an appointment for my brother with Dr. Erin after seeing her abilities and coming to like her. We were told it would be easier to see a Dr. Cathy which we denied because we didn't want that change for a little kid. We received a call shortly after being told that an opening was available for him to be seen which was great news for us because we wanted to get it done as soon as possible. We then receive another call about 30 minutes later from someone who told us that we were not allowed to be seen there because we requested someone different than what they wanted us to see. We were cancelled because they DISAGREED with what the PATIENT wanted... Absolutely awful to the patients and families wishes. I personally would never want to be in the hands of someone who will not work with making a child comfortable and welcoming and I hope you feel the same. read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. At first, we thought this place was great! The staff was friendly enough and they worked with our son to make sure he was comfortable with the tools they used during his visit. Then, at one appointment, we were told that he had cavities on all 8 of his molars. They told us they wanted to "lightly shave off the outer layer" of his molars and place crowns over the tops. We allowed them to do the work they said he needed without getting a second opinion, and it was a huge mistake (I say this because we had friends in the exact same situation... they were smart enough to get a second opinion and were told their son didn't need all that work done. They no longer go to the Kidds Place either). The crowns they put in were so large, he couldn't close his jaw all the way. When the first crown fell out a short time after (while he was eating YOGURT), we discovered that when they told us they would be shaving the outer layer of his molars, they actually meant they would be shaving the entire tooth down to the gum line. Then they told us it was our fault the crown fell out because we used the floss on the stick instead of traditional floss. The dentist we switched to said the type of floss doesn't matter, it shouldn't be the cause of the crown falling out. It's been 2 years since we've let them crown his molars and within that time, he's had 2 more crowns fall out, and one was today. Although we're much happier with the dental office we're at now, he's been in tears all afternoon. Not because his tooth is bothering him, but because he knows he's going to have to go tomorrow to have the crown replaced and he's afraid of the painful process it takes to get the crown put back on. So thank you, Kidds Place, for traumatizing my now 6 year old. He's terrified of the dentist. Please, don't make the same mistake we did. Take your kids elsewhere. read more

This place is a joke. They want to call the shots with your kids. Even when you don't feel like they need to be put under general anesthesia. I'm sorry but I do not trust these doctors with my daughters life. Plus if you say no, they will stop seeing them due to not going with the doctors recommendation. read more

So far my wife and I have had three appointments here with two of our children. Every appointment our children have been 20-30 minutes later than the scheduled appointment time. I understand things come up throughout the day that could make this happen but this last appointment was scheduled at 7:50 am. Not much to push you back that early in the morning. Little aggravating sitting in the waiting room watching people that have come in after you get called back before your child has been seen and it's well past their appointment time. How long do they give you to be late before they cancel your appointment? Not that long. Second thing, when we recieved a bill there was a $30 charge for a behavorial fee of some sort. It's a children's dentistry for crying out loud. What in the hell is a charge like that for? Needless to say not really impressed with the place. This dentist is a preferred provider by my insurance provider which is why i initially chose them. However their questionable billing and poor customer service would prevent me from ever using them again. I would recommend avoiding this dentist, they are not familiar with insurance billing and will overcharge you with made up charges. read more

Been there, done that and wont go back. To make long story short, this doctor is in it for the money not for the childs well being. You know when you see a person smile at you and you know its fake? We have been going to this dentist for about 3 years. I have had both good and bad experiences, however the most recent needs to be advised as I don't want any child to have to go through what my son has. He had 3 teeth pulled and he was not properly numbed! In all my 11 years of taking my 3 kids to the dentist I have never had a problem with them being uncooperative or scared. But the staff there kept telling me that it was the pressure or he probably doesn't like the numb feeling. My son kept saying Ow, it hurts and I could tell something was not right. He was in great pain during and after the procedure and kept holding his chin where the teeth were pulled. We are traumatized with what happened and the pain that my son unnecessarily had to to through. He says it hurt really bad and he is now scared to go back to the dentist. So much for The Kidds Place philosophy of making the dentist visit a positive one. I am very disturbed that they did not once check to make sure he was properly numbed and not feeling any pain. When I told them I didn't think he was properly numbed they just brushed me off and treated it as they had a job to do, not, lets make sure this child is ok before we proceed further. My son required ibuprofen immediately after the procedure because he didn't know what to do with himself from the pain. As soon as that kicked in, he was better. How would anyone like to see their child feel the pain of having teeth pulled? This was a horrific experience and I am still distraught over it. Especially since the procedure was not necessary and my kid had no cavities! How unfair to him and shame on The Kidds Place for such inhumane treatment.
