I should add that we were using state insurance for dental and there were not a lot of options out there. My 14-year-old daughter was told daughter she had about 15 cavities (some of the cavities were very large and were over large sections of each tooth) all over her teeth despite never having had any cavities prior and none at her very last check up. My daughter was aging out of their children's office and this was her last appointment with The Kidds's Place (besides the procedural part that they tried to schedule). Well, I had my alarm bells going off internally so I did not make any appointments to fix those "cavities". Instead I decided to purchase her dental insurance and find a new dentist. We just had her first appointment at her new dental office and they told my daughter she had no cavities and had beautiful teeth. I repeat: do not go here! They are scammers and corrupt. I knew something was off and I am so glad I didn't give in and allow my daughter's teeth to be butchered. The fact that they would do this to a child's teeth, therefore affecting future oral health, is beyond reprehensible.

Dr. Dance got the whole thing done and the sedation wasn't anything to worry about. The staff calmed my nerves and it was the smoothest I believe it could have gone because of the staff and Dr. Dance. After all that, my daughter asked when she GETS to go back. They wanted to put my daughter under and put silver caps on all 4 molars and even talked about doing a root canal on one of them. They we're planning on putting her under to do all the work at once. The doctor also Mom shamed me and saying it's her diet that caused her cavities and asked me what she ate and replied that it's the Ritz crackers that's causing it. I left the appointment and I cried in the car. something fell off, felt like they were just trying to get money. the doctor also showed me all these long list of all these young kids under the age of three and 1yr that were going to be going under on their surgery day to try to ease, my mind. I went and got a second opinion My daughter didn't have a cavity in her front tooth. She had a soft spot which eventually healed. she also didn't have any cavities just weak spots in the mouse that could potentially grow to cavities. she's currently had five appointments with this new doctor and her teeth are completely healthy! Please advocate for your kiddos, especially considering putting them under. Or if you're told about an insane amount of cavities, something could be off. Always follow your mom gut!

I went here as a kid and saw senior Dr. U. My daughter is now coming here for 7 cavities (ugh, I…read moreknow...) and they made it easy and affordable (as can be expected). So about $2,500 later for the two treatments of these cavities... They made early morning appointments (7:30am) so that I don't have to deprive my kiddo from eating/drinking any longer than necessary (starts at midnight so no biggie there) I also picked up the special prescription from a local pharmacy and then brought it in with me. They let her pick a flavor, take a horrible substance that tastes nothing like the flavor no matter what you pick (haha) and then sit and wait for it to take effect in the waiting room. My kid passed out on me... they then called us in about 30 mins later and she came to just enough to be a little startled but they're pros at this and she made it through everything like a champ. Which was saying something since she went in really freaked out. We still have one other appointment to get the rest and I have no doubt it will be smooth because they have such a great staff and doc.

Double check your EOB's against what they charge you. We have been patients of Downriver Smiles…read more(DS) for 40 years. Both of us really like Dr Gaunt. I had $10k+ worth of dental implant work the end of 2023. Later in 2024, my husband, John, was told a second time, he didn't need to pay the $20 copay again. He asked why. They had overcharged us over $700 on my dental work from 2023 and were using it $20 at a time to cover his copay (now a total of $40 against the $700 credit). They had been using our money for most of 2024. We were shocked and asked for a refund. In November of this year, they sent us a bill for $130. The DS insurance person was snippy with him, but looked into it and not all of the proper forms were sent to our insurance company. She corrected the mistake and we owed nothing. The first of December, I saw Dr. Gaunt to get a replacement upper denture. We paid them in advance on 12-11-25. I received an EOB from the insurance company on 12-23-25 for the claim they submitted on 12-11-25. (I didn't even get the denture until 12-31-25). They had overcharged us again - by $170. The DS insurance person told John they couldn't pay us because they hadn't received payment from our insurance company yet. On 12-31-25, Dr. Gaunt fit the dentures as best as he could. I also asked him the cost of completing the implant from 2023. When checking out, although we didn't ask her, the DS insurance person felt a need to tell John again, each step of the implant procedure. She stood directly in front of me the whole time and spoke directly to John constantly referring to me as "she". She never looked at me. She never said my name. I never said a word, but it was so condescending and embarrassing. Just because I'm old and in a wheelchair, doesn't mean I am blind, deaf, and dumb. Why would she act that way to me? When she was done, John asked her if we would receive a refund. She acted so superior again and said yes and answered with the same contempt when he asked her when. A couple hours later Morris called, identified himself as the current owner of the business and said because John was rude to his insurance person, we no longer were patients at his business. And he didn't want to hear anything John might have to say. I am now left with finding another dentist to pay for finishing the fitting my dentures - for which Morris has been fully paid. Whether John was rude or not, he has sent a letter of apology to DS. Again, check your EOB's.
