The mini-museum next to the Mobile Bay Room
    Bunny H.

So happy I chose this place! It was great for a mini vacay, or just a new perspective on a town I'd visited often in the past. It took a little getting used to since I normally do hotels, but man was it worth it! Its gorgeous inside and super-comfortable, and the tub was exactly what I'd been needing to relax my chronically sore muscles. A big plus that the place is like a small museum with lots to look at. We spent our first evening just looking around to avoid getting out in the rain. Also, the breakfast was so good that I would go to bed at night wondering what she had in store for us. Not exaggerating when I say that we would eat breakfast and be full for most of the day. Wendy was such a sweetheart! Her hearty food and lively conversation were perfect to start the day. She even sent me the nicest little postcard after our stay. Would definitely stay here again the next time I need a break!

    What a gem!

Wendy was kind enough to cook us breakfast early each morning, which really made our stay that much better.

Out of those four places, Fort Conde Inn wins for my most comfortable, unique, and lovely stay. Fort Conde Inn is a stunning and historic property in a charming neighborhood called Fort Conde Village. This hotel consists of several old homes from the 19th century, converted into old fashioned yet luxurious rooms and suites. We stayed in The Antunez Royal Suite, and our stay was amazing. The suite had high ceilings, Persian carpets, and gorgeous furniture and drapery. The king-size bed was the most comfortable bed I slept in during my entire six-day trip. I absolutely LOVED deep whirlpool bathtub! While we did not use the fireplaces, I enjoyed having them for ambiance. The linens and towels were luxurious, and I was impressed by the fact that we were given L'Occitane bath products. The living room couch was beautiful and comfortable, as were the chairs. Attention to detail with historic style furniture and artwork captured another time in history. Our stay included vouchers for daily $3.00 breakfasts at the local restaurant, Bistro St. Emanuel. It was a lovely bacon and egg breakfast with potatoes, toast, and choice of coffee or juice. The main house also offered us a serve-yourself drink at their "honor bar," which I really enjoyed. You make your own cocktail -- I made a Jack Daniels and Coke -- and then write down your beverage and leave the slip in a jar. What a lovely touch! Forte Conde Inn is an easy walk to restaurants downtown, and we passed artistic statues and a park along the way. Hospitality was superb. I appreciated the friendliness and efficiency of the inn's staff. I have only two minor complaints that could be easily rectified by ownership: 1. The toilet paper holder is attached to the wall next to the toilet, and it is VERY far back -- I had to do a full-body twist to reach it, which was not comfortable. A standing pedestal that holds the toilet paper would be a much better choice, much easier to reach, and could look very elegant and historical. 2. The bathmat that I was given was very tiny and insufficient. It was approximately 18x24 inches. It was TINY, which was difficult for getting out of the tub and then getting over to the vanity. For having such luxurious, oversized towels, I was surprised at the insufficient and tiny bathmat. I wound up asking the staff for extra towels, so iI could use one as a bigger bathmat. Again, this could be very easily rectified by ownership --a large, oversized, fluffy bathmat seems appropriate for such a stunning boutique inn of this caliber. The Fort Conde Inn is a unique and charming boutique hotel, and I am so happy that I came across it while researching accommodations for my trip to Alabama. Staying at Forte Conde Inn made beautiful memories for me that I'll always keep and cherish.

The staff were extremely kind and welcoming, which really stood out during my visit. One of my favorite touches was that the room had an actual key instead of a magnetic key card it gave the stay a unique, historic charm. The room was huge and beautiful. The bathroom was just as beautiful. The only complaint I would have is there is too much light coming thought the windows. Really hard to sleep, well I might be a vampire too, lol. A little too bright for me . Breakfast is offered and it is definitely something you don't want to miss. The food was fabulous, and the presentation was just as impressive. I will definitely be going back highly recommend for anyone looking for a charming and memorable stay!

If the answer to all of these is YES, then you have to check out the Malaga Inn. This place is absolutely beautiful! I enjoyed my stay there so much, and I was disappointed that I only had time to stay one night in this dreamy, lovely hotel. Even though it was hot and humid, we still enjoyed sitting for a spell in the rocking chairs that were outside our room on the wraparound porch. Our bed was so comfy, and the shower had good water pressure. Our room was beautiful, clean, and had a nice balcony. The staff were super-friendly and pleasant. Even though I didn't get to see the hotel's ghost, and we didn't experience any paranormal activity, we had a wonderful stay! I would definitely want to stay here again and stay longer.

But the rooms are charming and the air conditioning is adequate. Brian, a staff member, was incredibly helpful with a few things that came up. It was a great location in the middle of town. One thing that was beyond their control was the road construction, waking us up in the morning right outside of our room, and the parade down the street the night before. Lots of noise here at some point in time. Solid four-star hotel with its quirks.

During my most recent stay the entire hotel was looking rough while my room was just nasty looking throughout. The location is great but for the price they just don't measure up anymore. For the current rough condition this place is in they shouldn't be charging more than $25 a night! They are far overdue for gutting and redoing all the rooms and replacing all the worn out cheap furniture that is falling apart. Overall the only positives are the location and the staff seems to be doing the best they can with the decomposing mess they have to deal with.

There were cockroaches, dirty rooms at check-in, broken toilet seats, nonstop running toilets, TVs that did not work, and key cards that had to be reprogrammed constantly. One room had a door that would not lock from the inside, and in another, the AC cover fell off in the middle of the night. We were even told the TV cords had melted in a utility room. Housekeeping was incredibly rude, and the whole place felt neglected. This was not an isolated problem. It felt like a complete breakdown in maintenance and management.

Well, you've got 15 of them and that isn't even the start. This hotel needs to be condemned and shut down for business entirely. 2 rooms were booked and both were disgusting. Both contained dirty bathrooms, moldy walls (black mold at that), exposed wires, leftover food, holes in the wall, ceiling cracks with visible water damage and bubbles, and even bed bugs. And don't worry, this is just the beginning. The AC unit didn't work, barely pushed out any air (on top of it not even being cold air even on the lowest setting). The door failed to close and lock properly. Everything about this experience was a disgrace. Cleaning staff was rude and hotel management refused to take accountability for any of this. We attempted to contact management who refused to refund us since we "booked through a 3rd party". We contacted our booking agency who attempted to once again negotiate our concerns and get a refund only for the period to again say they refuse. The only reasoning the property provided was because we brought a dog. Our dog did not cause this damage or mess. Hotel was aware of the dog upon check-in and never said anything about it (only cleaning staff complained). Having an animal does not negate the unsafe conditions this hotel is in. We now have to dispose of the belongings we brought with us to avoid bed bug contamination with our other belongings, on top of contacting our doctors for exposure to black mold. I will be contacting my financial institution to dispute the charges while also forwarding this information to the local health district for investigation on this property.
