Don't stay long term, especially if you have a small dog. They act like an HOA, not like a hospitality RV Park wishing to make your stay enjoyable. It was my first stay as a camper, having just been widowed. I WAS MISERABLE after the first 2 weeks. I felt like I had to live like a hermit, and I took my dog to dog parks the whole 4 mos I was there, we felt so unwelcome. Don't stay long term. The rail was fun. read more

BEWARE - Management Plays Favorites I've traveled for 50 years and stayed in RV parks all over the U.S., and this was the worst experience I've ever had. There's a clear clique includes the manager, Michelle, and a woman who said she worked for her. A large white dog identical to the woman's jumped on my car and scratched the side of it -- and they insisted the dog was "never off leash." Witnesses told me they'd seen the dog off leash. In speaking with Michelle, she insisted her own dog was a "service dog" that it was the only one who could be off leash and it was "never more than 5 feet from her." Alabama law says otherwise, and her dog was not even with her at the time. The law says your property/yard/lot. Michelle works there, she doesn't own the RV park. If you're a Snowbird or traveling with pets, avoid this park. Regular guests get targeted while her clique gets away with anything. read more

Great family place. We have visited Wales West and rode the train for various holiday seasons. They have a spooky train that is kid friendly before 7pm and a spooky train with monsters after 7 pm. The train leads to a pumpkin patch and barn area. There is a mini haunted house and family crafts in the barn. They also have a Christmas train. We have also had our scout party at Wales West. We enjoyed the lake and water slide. There was a nice deck under the shade of trees for snacks and beverages. Fishing is nice as well. They allow catch and release fishing. All the staff are volunteers and really enjoy what they do. read more

This is a really great hidden gem to take the kids to, especially for Christmas. They have a ton of free activities although the main attraction, the real railroad train ride to see Santa, will set you back $15 pp. However it's worth it. Really. The event for the holidays is open 4-9pm daily about two weeks before Christmas, go to their website to find out the dates. Also they have an Easter train, a Halloween train, and other themed trains. But none compare to Christmas! Wow. I've never seen so many lights in one place. Seriously! If you're going for Christmas: They have FREE mini train ride, a FREE wagon ride driven by the grinch, a FREE lights display to walk around and look at (which is mind boggling by the way. If I had Little's, I might be tempted to tell them this was the north pole and Santa's workshop was really here!), and a FREE cool playground with some neat stuff you won't see elsewhere, and a FREE small toy. Parking is also FREE. Now for the paid stuff: For $1 pp you can shoot the "snow cannon" (which is really potato pieces). There's a petting zoo for $3 pp, $2 extra for feed, and horse rides for $5 pp. we gave our kids a choice - one or the other. They all chose the horse ride which surprised me. They also had face painting but I didn't ask how much. There was a small snack bar with things such as hot chocolate, sodas, hot dogs and pretzels on the menu for reasonable prices, a small outdoor snack stand, and plenty of picnic tables to eat at along with an outdoor heater which kept things relatively comfortable, though I will say it wasn't a very cold night so I can't vouch for that. There was also a small indoor gift shop with a train that goes on a track up near the ceiling and small train themed tems for sale. (Ex: a knock off lego train for $5) The most expensive thing by far was the train ride to Santa's village, at $15 pp. however here's what you get for your $15 - 1. a 15 minute train ride through the woods decorated very enchantingly with all kinds of inflatables, "snow", and beautiful light displays 2. A visit with Santa where the very nice "elf" will take a picture of you and your whole family with Santa using your own camera (no fees) 3. A peek at Santa's workshop which really looks as if Santa might work there 4. A small wooden toy 5. A craft you can take home 6. A return ride on the train And 7. Hot cocoa, cookies and candy canes at the end of your trip. I really think it's worth it. read more

We found Wales West quite by accident after calling numerous parks from Pensacola on westward while evacuating from Hurricane Irma. All we needed was a safe spot to hook up and wait out the storm - but we found so much more. First, the staff; so welcoming and they accommodated every rig they could with a lower "refugee" rate. Second, the residents; all wonderful and friendly. We met most all of them and they were so concerned for us and glad we made it to their park. The park itself is soooo cute. It has a resident part and a camper's part. But the best part was the trains! There is a railway station, the building covered in gingerbread, with trains going out around the park twice a day. There are steam trains and a small, sit-on-top train for kids. The park also has a big swim lake with a slide, hayrides, a haunted forest, and Santa's workshop. It is all lit up at night. Each night they held a social where everyone came out to meet up. On our first night, we went to the s'mores social and the second night there was an ice cream social. We met park staff, residents, fellow Floridians fleeing the storm, and all the pups and kids along with. These were wonderful evenings. The staff went above and beyond for us too. We were traveling with our two Siberian Huskies and, after two days of driving, really need to run off some energy. They do not have a dog park, but we took them into the children's playground, which was fenced, each night after the socials. The staff came out and didn't chase us out, but instead showed us how to turn on the lights so we could spend some time and let the dogs run around. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE AT WALES WEST! You made our stress go away and we had a marvelous stay. We would love to come back for Christmas to see the grounds all lit up for the holidays. I'm sure it will be magical. read more

The cost is way to much!! 21.00 + for a 3 year old ‍. Really really old looking. Kids enjoy the train ride but they need to redo the Christmas lights and areas. Especially for the price. Then I think it will be loads of fun. read more

The great thing about this RV Park is that it is very quiet. We love the fact that it is so peaceful. They also have pull through sites which are nice. The playground for children is very nice. Of the things we don't like, hence the 3 stars, is that while they advertise internet and cable neither were available during our 3 night stay. The camping spaces are quite close together. We had a neighbor come in late at night and woke up to find him parked about 10ft from our camper. This is also an RV Park that is heavily used as mobile home residences. It would be nice to know prior to booking that they have a good number of permanent residents. I will add that the folks who live there that we spoke to are very very nice. But, if you want to feel like you are camping, this isn't the place for you, at least it wasn't for us due to the number of storage sheds and satellite dishes. The train is cute although we didn't see it run. The yards are well maintained. $45 a night with a Good Sam discount is a bit hefty for no WiFi or cable. That was disappointing. She did tell us that the WiFi would be up and working the day after we arrived and the cable was supposed to be working. If those are important to you, I'd check before coming. We were visiting family so chose to stay. read more

Really impressed with this RV site! Not only is the site beautiful and well kept, all of the facilities were sparkling clean! I was really impressed with how clean the bathrooms were and how pristine the site was kept in general. There is a ton to do, especially if you have kids. I really enjoyed walking my dog around the lake and looking at all the decorations. read more

A quiet little RV park with a little train for the kids to ride. We went for the Christmas train ride which starts at Thanksgiving. They cover the whole campground in over 1 million lights. They take the train through a maze of lights to the "North Pole" where they meet Santa and paint a toy train. It's away from the city but within 15 minutes to everything. Amazing! read more

This is something we won't be doing again. Went on the reviews given by friends, but we were very surprised to find a different experience than described. Not only was the admission somewhat expensive, but we were surprised to find out when we got in, that some of the "attractions" we were expecting because they had been listed, such as the face painting and pony rides, weren't there on this particular Saturday. $32.00 for an adult and 3 year old is alot to charge for the 3 year old to ride a train to a pumpkin patch and pick out a mini pumpkin to decorate. We could have saved the hour and a half drive and just picked up a pumpkin in our home town. read more

This place is a joke. I thought this would be a fun little family outing. I won tickets through the local radio station, so it didn't cost anything and I'm glad for that because I would not EVER pay for this place. Our kid is 11 and she was ready to go as soon as we got inside. If you have a child up to 5, then this may be place for you. I wouldn't recommend taking older children. The whole place is tacky and for $15 per person it's ridiculous...I wouldn't pay more than $2 to get into this crap. read more

Wales West is one of our favorite places to come. When we have our out of state family visit we always make the trip across the bay to take them and our train enthusiast son. My dad came all the way from Wyoming and talked with the owners about how the place came to be; they are so humble and kind and the whole idea came from the mans train hobby. The price isn't bad and when you take into account all that goes into it and the upkeep of everything; it actually seems quite reasonable to us. Throughout the year they have different themes/events and the price remains the same. Our family tries to make it out for each season especially Christmas to see Santa and Halloween. If you follow their Facebook or go to their website they often have coupons available as well. It is easy to pass up all they have to offer by just coming and riding the steam engine but don't skip out on the other activities. They have a pumpkin cannon (different ammo per season I believe), two small train tables inside the gift shop as well as a small cafe, outside of the gift shop they have giant blocks and a wood track, a train car for the kids to climb around in, and other play sets, they have a petting zoo, hay ride, a playground with a bouncy castle, and one of our favorite things is the small train you can ride as many times as you like. Your pre teens and teenagers may be "too cool" but our family loves it even my 61 year old father. It must be something about the genuine coal burning steam engine or the whimsical wizard that greats you at the bottom of the entrance with a smile either way this hole in the wall attraction is definitely something to put on your list of places to go. read more

Our stay at Wales West was definitely not fun at all! Very rude management! If you have any kids this is not the place for them. There is absolutely nothing for them to do. Going to the pool and lake was never fun for them considering how they would get in trouble for everything they did. My kids repeatedly were harassed. Almost every day complaints would be filled against them and they would be watched by the campground workers. Maybe the workers should spend less time stalking kids and spend more time keep the place clean. The indoor pool is covered in mold, has dead bugs and clumps of hair floating in it. It seems they can never regulate the correct amount of chlorine for the pool. Every time my kids and I would go swimming we would always get severely sick. The shower never look clean. Spiders and roaches crawling everywhere. So disgusting! I defiantly don't recommend this campground to ANYONE!! read more

ok, lets start from the beginning. Myself, and my two children (5 & 6) went to Wales West to ride the 'Haunted Train' and visit the pumpkin patch. We have been looking forward to doing this for months. We paid $38.50 for the 3 of us! OUCH!! (However the girl at the ticket booth was very sweet) When we got inside the 'train station area', there were a couple of employees standing around, but no real attractions or activites for the children while we waited for the train. We did go inside and get a soda, which was flat, small and expensive. SKip ahead to while we were waiting in line....I saw a bunch of people with tickets in their hands so i asked one of the employees by the train "Are we supposed to have gotten tickets when we paid? because we didnt" He said "Yes, let me get the owner for you" When the owner walked up, he was loud, and pulled me and my two children out from the line, and in front of all the other guests, said "Well how did you sneak in here without paying?" i told him, "We most certainly DID pay, but got no tickets" He said "We have never let a person slip by without giving them tickets, so are you telling me that you're the first?" At this point, I was very angry. I said " i guess i must be, because i would not drive 30 miles and wait in line for half an hour, just to try to SNEAk onto the train!!!!" He was STILL raising his voice in front of at least 20-30 people at this point and said "Well, you're going to get a lot more help out of me if you're polite, and not so rude" This man the "Owner?" whos name was Ken, was accusing me of lying, and stealing, and was calling ME rude for responding in the manner in which i did, in front of these people that i was going to have to spend the rest of the afternoon with. So we proceeded to go back up to the ticket booth, where the 'owner'--Ken-- says to the girl "Have you seen this girl up here (at the register) or did she walk by, because she says you didnt give her tickets, and we dont make those kinds of mistakes" the girls said "OMG I am so so sorry. YES i remember her, i was just so distracted, i must have forgotten to hand the tickets out the window!!" So I got the tickets, and Ken of course tried to smooth things over by saying " This really never happens, haha, we'll get it right the next time you come" and what other way could i respond? i said " oh, we will NEVER be back!! Your tickets are over priced, you've, accused me of lying, stealing, sneaking around, and then called me rude in front of ALL of your other guests, I am ONLY staying because my children have their hearts set on this!" and he said "Well, you can go get your money back right now, and you dont have to ride the train at all!!" At this point, i walked away. I had PROVEN that i was NOT trying to sneak onto the train (it is ridiculous that i should have to prove that im not a LIAR) The rest of the afternoon was ok. The rest of the staff seemed pretty nice, however, most of them were sitting, or resting and not really interacting with their customers. It seemed like the kind of place that employees get by without doing very much. But the kids really did have fun. But, overall, it is WAY too expensive, and it just has a real lazy feel to it. Like no one wants to be there. Stay away from Wales West. They could care less if you leave satisfied, and it is run by trash!!! read more
