    Birria tacos
    Kylie C.

Service was awesome! I had the birria tacos and man in man- amazing. Great texture, salsa and the lime was fresh. This place is unique in that they have a communal lobby/bar/lounge area? There's also an upstairs with an outdoor patio! Large entertainment center with friendly people!

Shuga's Favorite Cafe Tray is an order that could satisfy one's entire meal but is best when shared as a starter or if you are looking for a light meal. The Mediterranean selection with the hummus and tapenade is amazing with the coconut shrimp soup being a must try with its creamy and spiciness. Though I love the almond butter cake the most to add a little dessert to the meal. The Madame of the Pletzl is one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've ever had. The bagel is perfectly salted and has a wonderful crunch the sandwich needs. The egg melts into the sandwich, mixing with everything it needs to. The ham is fried up to crisp it up a bit but the ham seems to be lacking flavor wise compared to everything else in the sandwich. The Cuban Mojo Sandwich also is an amazing sandwich. The pork shoulder is crisped up nicely and works so well with everything else. The winter soup was a tomato soup with some grilled cheese croutons and it is the best tomato soup I've ever had. The tomato soup isn't puréed, there are noticeable definitions in the tomatoes in the soup. The soup isn't too acidic which is the usual issue in tomato soups. The croutons really amplify this dish on to another level and I just wish there were more in my soup. I can't wait to come back here and my biggest issue will to try and order new things.

I honestly wish I could give this place zero stars…read more The mac and cheese looked like someone boiled noodles and stirred them into a bowl of pale, flavorless glue. It was chalky white, bland, and tasted like absolutely nothing -- not cheese, not seasoning, just sadness in a bowl. I took a few bites hoping it would get better and ended up feeling so sick I actually had to run to the bathroom and throw it up. I have never had mac and cheese that bad in my life. Then there was the catfish. Catfish is supposed to be crispy, seasoned, and full of flavor. This tasted like it was dropped in the fryer with zero seasoning and zero care. The only way I could even get it down was by drowning it in hot sauce just to give it some kind of taste. At that point I might as well have just eaten the hot sauce by itself. The whole meal felt like it was cooked by someone who has never tasted food before. Bland, poorly prepared, and honestly kind of shocking that a restaurant would serve it. I left feeling nauseous and disappointed. Save your money and your stomach -- I would not recommend this place to anyone. not even my worst enemy Let me talk about the cornbread, because it might have been the most disappointing thing on the plate. First off, it was wrapped in foil like a leftover someone forgot about in the back of the fridge. When I opened it up, it looked rough -- dry, dark, and cracked like a scab sitting on a plate. Not golden, not soft, not fresh... just sad. Then I took a bite and somehow it got worse. The taste was like unseasoned water baked into a dry brick. No sweetness, no butter, no flavor at all. It was crumbly, dry, and tasted like it had been sitting around for days before they wrapped it up and served it. Cornbread is supposed to be warm, soft, and comforting. This was the complete opposite. Honestly, I've had gas station cornbread that tasted better than this.

Portions weren't huge, but neither were the prices, so it felt fair. Drinks were especially cheap, which made it easy to relax and stay a while. They had just opened for dinner when we came in and we were greeted by Ben, one of the owners. His wife Susanna is the chef. We sat down and ordered blood orange margaritas which were on special. It came quickly and was absolutely perfect, the mixture of the fresh squeezed blood orange with the tequila was pure magic. We ordered the carbonara and bolognese for dinner but before our entrees, we were brought a basket of fresh naan, brioche, whipped butter, hummus and olives. The salt of the olives and the brightness of the hummus on the warm naan was a dance of pure pleasure on the tongue. The entrees came out and they were beautifully plated-the dishes were a cheerful pop of color that accentuated the gorgeous ingredients. The bolognese came with a spoon of ricotta drizzled in olive oil that added another layer of creamy flavor to an already beautiful sauce. The noodles were absolute perfection and I ate until I couldn't eat another bite. The carbonara was rich, creamy and the bacon gave it a faint smoky flavor that married perfectly. We couldn't leave without dessert and chose the frozen key lime pie along with the award winning apple cake. Both were absolutely perfect final acts to an incredible meal. The cake was bursting with apple flavor, sweet without being overly sweet and the vanilla ice cream gave it a perfect balance. The key lime pie was the star of the dessert show-chilled, tart and sweet with a beautiful buttery crust. This place is definitely one that should be added to any foodie list! It is magic!

But I'll start with the service, it is delightful, from the host to the server to the manager, everyone was pleasant and helpful throughout. The establishment is beautiful and airy. I found it brightly and artfully appointed. The coffee and pressed juice were both terrific. The mains, very flavorful and abundant. The birria as expected, was succulent and protein packed which is always good. The omelet was massive and flavorful, the potatoes were the real show stopper of this dish though. The brioche sandwich was a more basic selection but again plentiful and those potatoes might be the best home fries any of us have ever had. Overall, I'm thrilled to have a flavor-packed and unique breakfast/brunch option here in the springs and will be back to try their lunch options as well. The real hit for me was that pastelito de guayaba, it transported me right back to walking the beautiful streets of Mazatlan and stepping into a pasteleria to cool off for a sweet treat. It was perfection! I'm a fan! I hope this place sticks around!
