    several goats in a pen

We were planning our first family mini-trip since the pandemic and the first trip EVER of our youngest member of the family (19 months old) and I wanted to do something a little different... so I added The Jersey Barnyard to our Austin trip. Educational, but full of animals. I figured that was an all-around win. It was pretty easy to get to and plenty of parking, though I felt bad for the truck behind me as I was approaching and had to slow down early for the turn since I wasn't familiar with the area. It's a family run dairy farm but they have all sorts of animals: goats (2 breeds... one is Nigerian), sheep (a no-need-to-shear type), donkey, ducks, pigs (and 4 day old piglets!!!), a dwarf horse-pony, and the Jersey cows. You can go on a self-guided tour ($5) or a guided tour ($12 for adults, $9.50 for kids aged 2-12) plus an additional $2 for a bottle to help feed a calf. We were almost 30 minutes late for the tour time I had hoped for BUT they were super nice and we got a tour. It was a Tuesday a few minutes before 11, after school started so we were the only family. It includes food for the sheep, goats, and ducks. We also got a bottle for a calf to feed, plus a lot of petting and questions asked that were happily answered. The hay ride was loved by the kids - super bumpy though! (Probably why they enjoyed it, haha.) The dairy pasture is about a mile out and it was very educational getting to try our hands at milking a cow. They also have a gift shop with all sorts of things as well as Blue Bell Ice Cream and popsicles made with goat milk. We got the ice cream and popsicles (mango) to cool off with. I would have loved to get some milk but it would be a few more hours to get checked into the hotel and have access to a fridge, so I decided not to risk it. Summary: Great experience! We learned a lot and the kids enjoyed it even though the morning went off to a rocky start. In the summer, I definitely recommend hats, sunblock, portable fans (especially with young kids), and cool water... and some ice cream/popsicles from the gift shop. Glad we came by and helped support this family-run farm! Going to try to see if we can make it in time before the store closes on our way back home to try some milk.

Fun to bring the kids and elderly to this place. My only concern was the tour guides wore no masks, and allowed one person on our tour to not wear a mask. Even the 4 year old kids had on masks. It is outside except the gift shop with the ice cream and the pumpkin area. People squish together within 9 inches and spreaders happen to spread even outside. Price was fair for admission. Gift shop and pumpkins pricey. The bottles of milk, goat food reasonable as well. Might have missed it but saw no American flag flying. Bathroom had no soap to wash our hands, we brought sanitizer and our own bottled water. The hayride was a nice touch, wearing long pants instead of shorts was wise. Grateful no fire ants to cause us pain. Easy drive from Austin or Houston.

This review is long overdue! My partner in crime and I were on another random weekend trip and decided to visit the Jersey Barnyard unplanned. Thankfully, they were open although the day we went it was unmistakably and traditionally Texas hot but we made the most of it. We went to the main building and met one of their lovely employees who gave us the rundown of how everything operates for guests. We could opt for a guided tour or a self-guided tour and since it had already started and we didn't feel up to being tied to a group, we requested to explore on our own. She went through the different areas, gave us a map of the farm, and the different types of feed we could purchase and which animals they were for (in case we didn't know already). I wish I could remember her name as she was ultra sweet. We bought a couple of bottles (to feed the Jersey calves with), chicken feed, and some pellets for the goats. Oh, and as a head's up: if you do feed the calves, their pens are marked as to which you can and can't feed (as some may have already previously ate). We were asked to remain cognizant about this. :) The only thing I wasn't happy about was the bunnies are outdoor buns and the 2 we saw looked exhausted from the heat. Given that my PIC and I have adopted bunnies for their furever home for a long time now and have always maintained them indoors, it kind of hurt to see that. Although I do understand that sometimes different rules apply for others - especially on farms. Other than that, I did find it a great experience and would probably visit again.

This is a great place to bring the family. We came for the pumpkins this trip. Lots and lots of pumpkins to choose from. All sizes, shapes and colors. An awesome selection. They also have great plants to choose from and herbs. They offer tours for a small fee of the farm animals. Great select of things in the gift shop. They have raw milk for sale also. If your in the La Grange area check it out. It's a really cute place.

Life should be about experiences, and this is a great one! It's fun for adults and kids alike! There was a 45 minute tour and no part of it was boring. It included close-up viewing and interacting with guinea hens, chickens, ducks, turkeys, piglets, lambs and of course, milk cows! Weird how much I enjoyed holding and petting a chicken. For $2 extra (tour is a very reasonable $8) you get to bottle feed a jersey calf. This was $2 well spent and was certainly the highlight of my visit. The tour also includes a tractor drawn hay ride to the milking facility and you have the opportunity to try your hand at milking a cow. Finish your visit here with purchasing a bottle of fresh milk and/or enjoying a tasty Blue Bell ice cream cone. Pro tip: bring a cooler and ice packs! Take home fresh milk and organic eggs!

It's not a super quick stop. Nice day to stroll around though.

I asked my brother who used to live in La Grange if he would like me to grab anything while I was passing through on my way to Austin... what a cool place!! Got unpasteurized milk and yard eggs!! I'll be back for sure, it's a cool spot for sure!!

My boyfriend and I were driving back from Austin to Houston over the 4th of July weekend, and decided to stop at random places along the way to avoid traffic and make it more of a fun adventure. We saw a sign that said "Come milk a cow!" and we laughed and decided "why not??" The owners greeted us with open arms even though they were just 10 minutes from closing on a Sunday. The owner's daughter (her name has slipped my mind) was an absolute joy and truly made our day! She took us out on a private tour of the farm on her golf cart and we learned about the animals and history of the farm. We milked a cow, fed baby calves, and ended with some delicious ice cream! While it is a very family-friendly experience, we recommend Jersey Barnyard for "kids" of all ages :) Thank you Jersey Barnyard - we will be back!

The jersey barnyard is awesome place to go make sure to get the tour with a tour guide so you can bottle feed a cow and even Milk a cow they have awesome souvenirs pumpkins chocolate milk and toys I also got sheep decoration
