The Iron Gate Inn is a beautiful Bed & Breakfast centrally located in Cedar City, Utah. The location is within walking distance to Southern Utah University and the Shakespeare Festival. Upon arrival we were greeted by the owners Brian and Donna and offered a complementary glass of wine. The owners are very personable and excellent hosts willing to help their guests have a memorable experience. We reserved the Lucy Belle room on the first floor which has a separate door to the front porch. This room has a king bed, spacious bathroom with shower. The bed was comfortable, plenty of hot water in the shower and and the room was nicely decorated. The porch is a perfect place to relax overlooking the flower garden. Morning coffee, juices and homemade breakfast is also included. Behind the Inn is the IG winery. Tours and tastings are available. We have previously stayed at other B&B's in the Cedar City but now that we have experienced Iron Gate it will be the first choice on future visits. read more

The Mister is not a fan of B&Bs. Too much pressure to get to breakfast on time, rooms too small too move, beds too frilly and not very comfortable. But I talked him in to trying it one more time. And he loved it. We both did. The Iron Gate is like coming home. You are welcomed in like everyone's been waiting for you, shown through the gorgeous restored house, offered a glass of wine (yes, please), and then left to your own. There are places to relax in the beautiful gardens, the wrap around porch, or the parlor. The rooms and bathrooms are large and well appointed. Comfortable beds. Quiet. Our shower had three heads and I thought about moving into it. Chairs for conversation. But our favorite part was breakfast. Instead of a mad rush to all get down so we could eat at once, the hosts at Iron Gate give a range of time. They set out good coffee, juice, etc. Then breakfast is set up on a hot plate and people serve themselves and sit comfortably. They served fresh fruit, warm fresh muffins, an egg dish...and bacon. Really, really good bacon. I don't know if I'll get the Mister to try another B&B, but I do know that Iron Gate is now our go-to place to stay in Cedar City. Also walking distance to the Festival, art galleries, winery, and restaurants. Park the car and pick it up when you leave. read more

This place is fantastic. The house is lovely: originally built in 1897, it has been restored and decorated to reflect its turn-of-the-century heritage without sacrificing modern conveniences. Susan and CR are gracious hosts and are accommodating, warm, and solicitous without being overbearing. Our room was the "Joy Darlene" and featured a king bed and a three-head walk-in shower (tilt the middle head all the way down before turning on the taps!). The breakfast area is charming and opens onto a patio, which would be a lovely place in warmer temperatures for a cool drink. The food is scrumptious and homemade, as befits a quality B&B. Our first breakfast: individual quiches (bacon, cheese, artichoke), cinnamon muffins, fresh fruit, and juices. Our second breakfast: banana bread pudding, sausages, fresh fruit, and juices. You will not leave hungry! The hosts even provide a happy hour at 5pm with wine and appys (we were served bacon wrapped brie-stuffed dates, chips and homemade salsa, crackers/cheeses/meat plate, and jalapeno olives). If you have any food allergies, let the hosts know a few days in advance of your visit and they will modify the menu for you. I am lactose-intolerant and they were gracious enough to make my quiche without cheese and my bread pudding with Lactaid milk. The house is within a few minutes walking distance of Southern Utah University (where the Utah Shakespeare Festival is located during the summer) and the downtown core. Despite this, the evenings were VERY quiet, ensuring a good night's sleep for all. Susan and CR said that they will be opening up a winery in the next couple of months, which will only add to the quality and decadence of this already fine establishment. We plan on visiting again for the Shakespeare festival later this summer and are looking forward to it! Only 1 quibble: although there is wifi available, the connection doesn't seem to work with Apple products. read more

Donna was SO sweet & really great with our 2 young children. Everything was super nice & clean. Amazing breakfast too! We loved our stay!!

Being that this is my first stay at a B&B, it's probably premature to rate it "as good as it gets." Then again, as far as I'm concerned, it's as good as it gets! From the time we arrived through breakfast this morning, Susan has been an awesome host. She even offered us a free upgrade to a larger room when we arrived. We ended up declining because we liked the coziness of our room, the Ruby G, and its view of the garden outside. Also, the Ruby G is literally right off the dining area. I saw that as a plus because we'd definitely know when breakfast was served by the noise outside (breakfast is promptly served at 8:15am). Speaking of breakfast, it was like a home-cooked meal and it was delicious! It certainly helps that the weather has been terrific. We were able to enjoy our quiche, peaches (presumably picked from their trees), danishes, bacon, coffee, and OJ outside on their garden patio. I think that's the allure of the B&B. It's more like you're a guest at someone's house, not unlike the experiences I've had so far with CouchSurfing. As a result, all of the other guests are friendly as well. Oh and the proximity to SUU and the Shakespeare Festival is definitely a plus. It's a quick 5-minute walk--just a small block away--to the Randall L. Jones Theatre. Yeah. Super cute B&B with very friendly staff. The room was spacious with a bed and two chair and nice large bathroom. It also had two doors, one to a communal sitting area and the other to the outside which is nice. Awesome pillows which was a nice bonus. The breakfasts each day were great, something you would expect to pay $10-15 for. If you are there in the off season (like I was) they can be flexible with breakfast time for you. This was my first b&b ever, and my wife's first time in the states. I was amazed at how much attention to detail Donna has put into everything, it's mind boggling. House was immaculate, bathroom was too. Bed was awesome, night was quiet. I could not design a better stay anywhere-and I didn't have to, they took care of everything. And breakfast? Awesome. And when we told her our departure plans, she added something we never found on our internet searches. Best kept secret. Best of all was Donna the doll. One night and we felt like she was a relative. For some reason I thought I had originally found this B&B on Yelp because they're so great (and many great things are found on Yelp) but it turns out I didn't! I stopped here once on my way from Los Angeles to Aspen, CO because it's a good half way point and I'm here again on my return trip. I can't gush enough about this place- the hosts CR and Susan are a delight, the rooms and grounds are luxurious in a very cozy way and the overall experience is a perfect balance between the privacy of a hotel room and the warmth of, well, a good B&B! Also, the breakfast they serve here is very gourmet- home made fresh every morning. (This is especially welcoming after eating mostly fast food on my drive). If/when I have to make a stop anywhere near this part of the country again, I'll definitely come back. read more

The Iron Gate Inn has been my favorite getaway for 7+ years, whether as a Women's Retreat, as part of my Utah Shakespearean time, or just as a solo retreat. Susan and CR are always welcoming and warm. They accommodate even the smallest requests... although their hospitality and the inn rarely require any additional requests. When I worked in Cedar City (at the Utah Shakespeare Festival) and patrons would ask where they should stay, I never hesitated to recommend the 1897 Iron Gate Inn B&B. Susan and her husband, CR, help make your stay a memorable one. Great rooms with not too much lace doilies or too many knick-knacks, the Inn is a very relaxed space with a beautiful dining area. There is an outdoor patio area that makes a great place to sit in the afternoon and get to know other guests or simply enjoy the sunset. Friends of mine have stayed there multiple times and continue to remark on the good times they spent at the B&B. read more

I snagged a room at the last minute, so I was in the room off the dining room. That room was comfortable, just a little noise in the morning, but not really a problem since most people eat on the patio. read more

It's very rare to find a good B&B that has wheelchair access. The Iron Gate Inn was a rare find that we enjoyed while attending the Shakespeare Festival. The room is located on the first floor and is adequate. The bathroom has no seating so be prepared to shower from your chair. We were promised three times to have a shower seat delivered to our room--never happened. The breakfast was delicious. Other than the shower seat incident, the service was good. We hope to stay here in the future, but perhaps bring our own shower seat. read more

My wife and I stayed for just 1 night but wished we could have stayed for several nights. As former B&B owners and operators, we are very critical of B&B's. My husband, daughter and I stayed at the Iron Gate this week. Donna, the inn keeper, could not be more gracious and welcoming. Her cooking is delicious, and our room was large and spacious. We had a wonderful experience. Our daughter (7 years old) was welcome and Donna provided a roll-away bed for her. The inn is a short walk from the Shakespearean theater and very good restaurants are also within walking distance. I highly recommend The French Spot. read more

This is a true bed and breakfast at its best. The Inn keepers were not only warm, receptive and professional, they went out of their way to help. With a late check-in, the local restaurants were nearing closing time, they call a restaurant making sure the restaurant would stay open and would have the full menu available. The rooms were well appointed and decorated, from the tastefully accented antiques to the hairdryer and fluffy towels. The breakfast was not only ample but wonderfully unique, giving you homey feeling. As a world traveler I can truly say that the Iron Gate Inn in Cedar City is one of the best B & B experiences I have ever had... I found this amazing place on a cross-country drive from Los Angeles to Colorado. Actually I found it by accident through yelp as I asked Siri on my iPhone for the best local hotel as I drove in. I almost stayed at the Comfort inn down the street and am so glad that I chose this place instead. It was Immaculately clean, well designed and thought out, a truly beautiful restoration and an amazing bed-and-breakfast! The owners/hosts are incredibly warm and inviting and the breakfast was wonderful. I would recommend this to anyone traveling between Los Angeles and anywhere if you're on the road and you're in Cedar city Utah stop here, it's a great place and I'll definitely be back! read more
