The Inn at Shipley is a very pleasant pub and restaurant on the Wolverhampton to Bridgnorth road.
The building is former gentleman's farmhouse, and dates back to 1771. It has been a restaurant for some time, but the present name only dates back to 2013, when it was acquired by the present chain.
Despite its relatively recent transformation, they have done their best to retain some of the atmosphere of the original Georgian house, and some sections have the open beams and fireplaces expected of country pubs.
The bar has a very good selection of real ales and not a bad wine list. The food menu is more reminiscent of a restaurant, with prices to match: starters come in around £5-6 (scallops are £11); mains from £11 to £17, with a 7oz steak at £25; and puddings at £5-6. Food is served from 12noon to 10pm Monday to Saturday and there is a roast dinner on Sundays, when they are open until 9:30pm.
I went there for a family meal, which was very nice, although they had some problems with my main course of roasted beetroot, spinach and feta quiche - I asked for boiled potatoes instead of potato salad, which resulted in my order being forgotten and arriving late. They apologised but it did upset my hosts. You couldn't quibble about the portions though, which were very generous, and it was nice to have a good selection of beers, and staff were very pleasant, though a little harassed (busy) on my visit.
An interesting feature is the allergen filter on their website menu - you can adjust it to display foods free from a wide range of potential problems. read more
