I have a 2014 Subaru Forester 2.5 Premium that had a bad solenoid in the valve body, a typical problem for high mileage Subarus. Since Subaru doesn't sell individual solenoids, the valve body (w/ four new solenoids attached) was the only way. Expensive part at approximately 1k plus labor but great service and communication. I normally do my own maintenance but for this I needed a $500 scan tool to do a "relearn" after the new part is installed. One of the few times I needed an auto shop. My review of Import Doctors: Somehow the service I thought I was getting, Honda's recommended service which at this point is: Replace engine oil and oil filter Inspect front and rear brakes Check parking brake adjustment Inspect these items: Tie rod ends, steering gear box, and boots Suspension components Driveshaft boots Brake hoses and lines (including ABS) All fluid levels and condition of fluids Exhaust system Fuel lines and connections Plus I authorized repair of a tire leak Ended up also including: $19.00 of manual transmission fluid, $10.00 of brake fluid and $20.00 of anti-freeze (reading between the lines here I assume the fluids were replaced) An unexplained purge Cabin filter replacement-I replaced it myself six months ago Air filter replacement Fuel injection Service Throttle cleaner for some purpose--cleaning the throttle? For a bill of $659.00. In other words, they did their generic, and profitable, "150,000 TYPE MAJOR SERVICE" rather than what the owners manual says to do. I didn't see that coming. I didn't think to have to be explicit "Just do what the owners manual says", but I have never had to with other garages. They should have put a clutch change in their and made some real money. And how is the next mechanic going to know unscheduled work was done unless I show them the receipt and say, "No, don't change the transmission fluid; it was done early by a prior garage?" BEWARE!! You've found the place that gives auto shops a bad reputation! These are not honest people! They charged me $456 for an inspection on a vehicle I was looking to buy. I asked them to check on a few things I had concerns about. The vehicle was only in their possession for 3 hours before I received a call on the repairs they recommended, which included a gas tank and window seals replacement along with some routine maintenance items totaling over $6,000. They first sent me a text with an invoice for $656.98 for the inspection. When I got to the shop, they then adjusted it to $456 as they realized they told me on the phone they didn't look at the brakes or steering as they didn't want to drive it. The cost was shocking as they never advised of the cost for the inspection. I am familiar with shops charging $100-$180 for inspections and quotes, but never seen anything close to this. They said it was a "safety inspection", and they spent an hour here and there on each item. After arguing that they only had the vehicle for a few hours before giving me the quote, they agreed to a charge of $255 for the inspection. Again, no repairs were done. I understand that a business has to make money and pay their employees, but a charge like this is something that needs to be discussed beforehand. There are plenty of quality mechanics in town that are upfront and fair. Don't risk it here! read more

I took in my 2008 Kia sportage to get look about a year ago because the engine was giving off a loud whine as it started up. I figured the belts needed replaced. They took my car in early in the morning and gave me an estimate by noon and had the repairs done at the end of the day. Smooth sailing so far. When I went to pickup the car and began to drive it home I found there was no whine coming from the engine, but was not driving as smoothly as before. Once I got home, I had come to realize my front left shock absorber had totally seized up and was not moving. When I called Import Doctors to tell them something was wrong they took my car back in immediately. They told me that shock absorber had totally seized and it needed to be replaced and asked me to pay for it. Considering I had just paid about $800 to replace all the belts and fix a few other small items, I was not too thrilled about paying another $700 for an issue I did not create myself. This was damage that did not occur while I was driving the car, and I had to assume that something happened to it while it was in their shop. The owner refused to believe that anything like that could have happened in his shop and actually DENIED liability for the damage. I told him I want this repaired but I simply would not pay for the damage they caused to my vehicle. The owner tried to explain away liability again by making a comparison to visiting the doctor. He might cure your cold, but if you break your leg a week later, its not the doctors fault. Obviously anyone with a shred of logical sense understand that this simile does not follow any sort of logical reasoning as a mechanic and a doctor are entirely different professions, and cars are not people. I refused to pay the full amount and offered him $200 to fix what they damaged and I would never bring my Kia there again. Quite a horrible experience. Don't take your car here unless you're looking for it to be returned to you with more damage than when it came in. read more

Please take warning ...Import Doctors placed BOTH faulty and WRONG parts in my vehicle and a year later I'm still dealing with it! In Spring of 2014 I took my Lexus RX 300 to Import Doctors with an oil leak. After spending $1500 and 3 WEEKS of having my car, the leak never went away. In that 3 week time frame I had to take my car back repeatedly because the problem was never properly fixed. At one point a faulty part was placed in the vehicle and Shane acted like HE was doing ME a favor by not charging me for it! Yes you read that right! Import Doctors put in a part that failed and then Shane acted like he was doing me a favor by not charging me for labor to reinstall the failed part! When Shane called me originally to give me the diagnosis, he ran through the list so fast I couldn't even write everything down. When I asked him to stop and explain what each item was and how it effected the car, he was rude and acted insulted I didn't just take his word for it. It is my right as a consumer to know what you are doing to my car. The ONLY thing I didn't do that he suggested at that time was install a new timing belt. Shane is unprofessional, rude and condescending. After being without my car for 3 weeks due to repeatedly taking it back to have it fixed and dealing with his condescending demeanor, I decided it was easier to keep a supply of oil always in my trunk and refill it monthly. My car leaked everywhere I went but it was easier than dealing with him again. I could no longer park in driveways because of this leak. In January 2015 my car started acting up again. This time I took it somewhere else. The new mechanic said my car had the wrong spark plugs. Turns out Import Doctors put in the wrong size of spark plugs...a pretty basic thing a car place should know how to do. The spark plugs were to long and were jammed in my engine so hard that the mechanic could only remove 2 of the six plugs. $230 to determine Import Doctors put in the wrong parts. When I called Shane to tell him about this situation his response on the phone was...."Ma'am, we put in what the manufacturer recommends. We can look at it next week." This was on Tuesday. True to form he was condescending, defensive, combative and dismissive. Due to the fact I was not able to drive this car until it was fixed, I had no choice but to take it there and leave it until they could get to it. Anticipating a potential "he said he said" issue, I stopped at Napa to ask them to please print out what size plugs the manufacturer calls for. The new mechanic and Napa confirmed, Import Doctors installed the wrong size plugs. This can cause SERIOUS engine damage. When I walked in, Shane was true to form. I placed the two different spark plugs on the counter, the correct size and the one they installed. The one they had installed actually had a broken the tip because it was the wrong size. He immediately went into defense mode telling me they were right when I laid down the paper from Napa. Knowing he couldn't argue because I had done my research, he again said in a dismissive way, "I can get to it next week sometime." This was Thursday. I also asked him to reimburse me for the $230 I had just spent determining they put in the wrong spark plugs. At that point I VERY calmly recapped my experience with him. I told him they had my car for three weeks last year for an oil leak that was never fixed. At that time I did everything they recommended for this car except a timing belt. When they did the work the put in a faulty part. And now 10 months later I've discovered they put in the incorrect parts. I told him while I understood that they are busy that I didn't create this problem. At NO POINT did Shane ever say he was sorry for ANYTHING!!! No remorse. I bet if I had taken the car back there when my car started having trouble in January 2015, he would have charged me for the wrong parts that were put in by them and I would have never known. He fixed the car that day. He reimbursed me for the work that was done....except $7 for the 2 spark plugs they had to replace that my mechanic had put in because they weren't galvanized steel. Yes.... you read that right. He charged me $7. Can you imagine??? If that doesn't tell you what a spiteful, rude and unprofessional establishment this is, nothing will! Pretty disappointed with the work we had done here. We took in our Subaru (which they claim to specialize in) originally for some issues with our wheels, the first service we had the gentleman on the phone was pretty short with us but we tried to not be bothered by his rudeness as everyone is allowed to have a bad day. They fixed this issue and quoted us with engine repair for a few thousand dollars that they found while fixing the original issue. Our car was getting up in mileage we decided to take our car back and get this work done that they told us we need to have done, this work cost us a good amount of money. After sending our car back the second time, assuming that all the work that needed to be done had been, our check engine light as well as AT oil temp light came on after only driving it for about an hour. Our alignment was also off, and cruise control no longer worked. We did not have any of these issues before we sent our car here (besides the original wheel issues), but now after they said the repairs had been done we had more issues than we started with. We decided to take our car back for them to fix it. They then told us our wheel was bent, which they should have noticed the very first time we brought our car in since our wheels were making noise, as well as quoted us for an exhaust issue that we had previously fixed. They said nothing about our AT Oil Temp light which was our biggest concern. The new repairs would cost us over $400 after we just spent thousands to get our car to where they said it needed to be. We also noticed that our mileage did not change after we took it in, how do you know you fixed any issues without test driving the car? I am just overall very disappointed & upset and we will now have to take our car to another shop to make sure the work was done correctly as we have lost faith in Import Doctors. If you as a company are specialized in Subaru, you should be able to fix our issues the first time, and there should not be more issues every time we take our car to you. I feel like we have been conned out of a few grand by these guys, so this is a warning to any one planning on bringing your car there to be cautious. read more

Then they tried to upsell me $800 worth of service my car didn't need (because I had already done them) and now my car barely starts and idles to a stop. This place is a total rip-off. First of all they had me schedule an appointment for 8am just to look at my car and give me an estimate (literally just to look at it). I had to call them three times and it took them 6 hours to get back to me with an estimate and for me to get my car. They told me they were running two hours behind only after the second time I called. "Sh@%#e" was very rude and unprofessional when I was trying to get an eta on when my car would be ready so that I would have a ride to go pick it up. Then when they finally did give me an estimate it was for almost $3,700.00 worth of repairs! I took the car to the Mitsubishi dealership and got a second opinion and the estimate which only took 30 minutes, by the way, was only for $925.00, parts and labor included. Be cautious when dealing with this place as they do NOT care about their customers and are obviously over-charging. I will never take any vehicle I own to them again, and I will tell everyone I know what happened to me. read more

Received work on a couple occasions from these folks. The first time consisted of a simple service work up, which was satisfactory. However, the second time consisted of replacing and fixing a couple things. Needless to say, I ended going back a third time because it was incorrectly put back together. Ultimately, I came out with more time and money spent awaiting for my car to be fixed correctly than going to a 'non-bargain based' mechanic who appeals to the lowest bidder. Went in for two simple repairs, afterward my car makes random noises, which they cannot diagnose nor fix and it isn't running as well as it was before the work. They attempted to convince me I needed several hundred dollars worth of additional work that another reputable mechanic shop did not originally "find" when I brought back my car because of the new issues that I noticed directly after their first repair. My Subaru is 16 years old, so I figured it was time to replace the timing belt, timing belt tensioners and water pump. (Those things are all in the same part of the engine and might as well all be done at the same time.) My Subaru dealer and Tuffy both quoted me about $700, but the Import Doctors said they would do it for $495. Naturally, I went with the Import Doctors. Turns out their low estimate was based on using the wrong (cheaper) tensioner, so they called and upped the price. While they were at it, they tried to talk me into thousands of dollars' worth of other work that I had already recently had done. All told, it would have been cheaper to go with the dealer or Tuffy. The Import Doctors is a team of skilled technicians who know what they are doing when it comes to vehicle maintenance on Japanese and Asian imports!! They always call and talk to me about what my vehicle needs before doing any work on it, and they allow me to choose the work i want done to my car rather than doing all the work without me knowing. Other dealerships have screwed me over by doing all the maintenance work without my knowledge and then expect me to pay a huge bill when the car didn't even need certain things replaced or fixed right at that time!! I respect the fact that when they tell me what the vehicle needs they also inform me of the things that should be done immediately and also the things that could be done at a later time if its not in my budget. Overall I have had great customer service and have never had any problems with the work that they have done to my vehicles. And they DON'T VOID my factory warranty! read more

I took my car to Import Doctors for an oil change and tire rotation. When I got home, I noticed that they had used a "synthetic blend" and not "synthetic" oil, as my owners manual suggests. They also provided a list of "recommended" services at 30,000 that were not even included in my owners manual. When my husband opened the hood, he found that the clips for the air filter were left undone. Additionally, my clock was off when I got back in the car, which means the battery was disconnected at some point during the service. Why would my battery be disconnected to change the oil and rotate the tires? Needless to say, I won't be going back. read more

However, this was NOT the case. I had to take my car 3 separate times for them to finally get it right.
