It's ridiculous how good these employees are. Today I went to the plumbing aisle & a guy asked what I needed & we had a nice conversation about my toilet. We found what I needed & I was outta there. Nice greeter, very nice cashier. I used to live a mile from there, & I'd go in several times a day when doing a project. What's so awesome is that I could always find someone knowledgeable about electric stuff in the electric dept. Same with plumbing, paint, lumber, hardware. This is definitely not the case at their competitors. I've actually had Home Depot employees draw me diagrams.

I decided to try Menards after a not-so-great experience at a different big box store. I wish I…read morecould say it was a much better experience, but I can't. The main problem is customer service. You would think that on a Saturday there would be employees in every department ready to help customers, but not so. It seems that Menards would like to employ order takers to write up sales but no one to help with questions. I walked around looking for someone to help me buy a door. I went up front to the check out area twice to request help before someone showed up. There was a computer in the area that appeared to be a self-service-write-your-own-sales-ticket, but it wasn't user friendly to me. Besides that, I didn't want to write up my own ticket lest I make a mistake. That isn't my job! When someone finally came, he had me come to the back of the store to print the sales order. That's when I realized I should have gone there for help right from the start. Little did I know, that's where all the employees were. There should be signs directing customers to the back of the store if that's how they want to help customers.

I called to place an order for horse feed that is not regularly stocked at this store. The male…read moreassociate I spoke with was rude, dismissive, and unwilling to help from the start. He insisted I provide the TSC SKU number, even after I explained that TSC.com showed the feed could be ordered and politely asked if he could simply search the feed name. I also explained that I would be working near this location and intended for this to become my primary TSC store -- meaning consistent business and repeat purchases. Instead of assisting, his tone became short and curt, and he ultimately stopped helping altogether. When I politely stated I would take my business elsewhere, his behavior escalated further and became even more unprofessional. Customer service requires very little effort. Basic courtesy, problem-solving, and treating customers respectfully should be the expectation -- not the exception. I had a completely different experience with the Tecumseh Tractor Supply location while trying to order the same horse feed product. The associate I worked with was proactive, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful. She quickly showed me how to order the feed, confirmed it would arrive by Friday, and even took extra time to walk me through additional products I may need and how to order those as well. That level of customer service stands out. Saving customers time, improving efficiency, and thinking ahead for them is incredibly refreshing and appreciated. It felt like she truly cared about helping rather than just completing a transaction. Excellent customer service and exactly why people stay loyal to a store.
