It is easy to see why this store gets such poor ratings. There is no way when you have three weeks lead time on a major storm that you run out of ice melt products or snow shovels. That is a managerial failure and that manager should be on the unemployment line because that happens every single snowstorm and if you're in the middle of the season like we are now and you don't have ice melt products or at the least shovels. Reasonably well stocked with everything I needed, although some of the shelves were quite messy and it took a little digging around to get through the brackets that I needed. Staff was busy up front but didn't really find anybody to help in between the aisles. Watch out in the parking lot, fair number people drop glass and nails out there along with other debris. I recently had a very disappointing experience with Home Depot regarding the purchase of a large recycling can. The first can I bought lasted only about 3 weeks before the wheels completely fell off. I called the store, and they told me to return it. When I brought it back, I expected to swap it for a new one, but instead they only gave me store credit. I used that credit to order another recycling can for delivery the same day. Unfortunately, when it arrived, the lid was bent, and it even had bird droppings on it. I immediately stopped the delivery driver, who apologized and told me that she had actually tried to pick up a better one from Home Depot, but the store insisted this was the one she had to deliver. She said I would need to take it back myself. So, in the pouring rain, I loaded the broken can into my car and headed back to the store. While driving, I called HomeDepot.com customer service (not the store directly). They were sympathetic, processed a refund, and told me to dispose of the defective can. At this point, the refund has not yet shown up on my credit card, and I'm left with a broken garbage can I have to throw out myself. Between the poor quality of the products and the complete lack of accountability from the store, this was a really frustrating experience. I ordered fence panels from Home Depot because the website said it would be delivered the next day. After I started the order the delivery date changed to the following week. I was ok with that, but then after completing the order i was given a window for delivery between 6am-8pm. So after getting up at 6am to wait for the delivery I get a text at 2:30pm saying the delivery wasn't coming for another week. The following week arrived and i get a message saying the delivery will arrive at approximately 8:30 am. I tracked the shipment up to my door and when it arrived I was missing the largest and most important part of the shipment. The fence panels I ordered were left behind! What kind of nonsense is that! So I get on the phone yet again to see when they are coming and I'm told they were already delivered. I ask for a manager and he tells me he would check the back of the store to see if they were there. He finds them and tells me he would arrange a delivery for that evening. When they finally arrive I couldn't believe the garbage they sent me. Some of the panels had broken pieces, one of them was totally discolored. I again had to call to complain! What a damn nightmare! In the end the manager made the order right by sending me three new panels and comping me another one. But to put it simply I would never order delivery of wood products from Home Depot again. If they cared enough about their customers they would make sure that they pick out good quality wood before shipping it. I give them 2 stars because the manager made the order right and saving me some money. Its a Home Depot what you expect, I normally go to multiple Home Depots in the area and Lowes too. Sometimes I find something close to what I need and other times I don't. The items are all mass produce few of high quality that will last. And forget about replacement parts or knowable staff. I am a abysmal aisle shopper and wonder all over the store so I may know more about item location than the staff. Not all store departments are the same across stores and as a last resort I buy online. The Garden and Electrical department here are good compare to Clifton. On 9/20 I purchased an LG Refrigerator and I paid in full with my debit card, it was $909. I was told it would be delivered on Thursday, 9/29. On Wednesday, 9/28 I called the 1-800 number to confirm the delivery information because I had not heard anything from anyone regarding the delivery. I spoke with a lady named Sharon and she said it will be delivered on Thursday, there is a 4 hour window and they will call you prior to the delivery. On Thursday by 1pm, my refrigerator had not been delivered, so I called the 1-800 number regarding deliveries. I spoke to Damond and I told him I was checking on the status of my delivery for my refrigerator. I gave him the Order Number, and he informed me my refrigerator should've been delivered 8:30am-12:30pm. He asked me to hold on so he could speak to delivery operations. I said okay. He remained on hold 1:30-2:45pm then he came back to the phone and explained to me he would put me directly through to delivery operations, and I can find out from them where my refrigerator is. I agreed. I was on hold with delivery operations from 2:45pm until 5:00pm. At 5:00pm I spoke with Janey and Janey informed me my refrigerator never left the warehouse. She further explained due to them transitioning to a new warehouse some deliveries are still in the warehouse and your refrigerator is one of those items. I explained to her that I am not upset with her but this has ruined my entire day and $909 came out of my account the same day I purchased the refrigerator and my promised delivery date was bogus, because I never received my appliance. I told her I want my money back and I was going to the store to do so. She said she would call me back once I got to the store to see if anything else could be done. I told her 6:15pm was fine. Janey called me back at 6:15pm. I was offered $100 off the current price and a delivery for Saturday. I said No. Saturday doesn't work for me I just want my money back. Roseanne at Home Depot was only able to refund me $58.42, and assured me I would get the remainder of my money on Friday 9/30. Today is Saturday 10/1. My $850.87 was never refunded to my account. I returned to Home Depot today and all the staff was saying it takes 5-7 business days to get your money back. I asked for a Manager. A manager comes up front, surprise it is Roseanne, the same one who told me I would get my money back yesterday. She said come with me in the back. I follow her, and she gets on the phone. She is talking back and forth with a young woman, who says my supervisor is checking on it. She comes back to the phone several times saying they are looking into the AG. Roseanne goes on to tell me even if they find the AG you will not get your money back until Tuesday. But ROSEANNE YOU are the one who told me I would GET MY MONEY back FRIDAY. Home Depot took my $909.29 out the same day I purchased the refrigerator, and I only got $58.42 back. These are difficult times for everyone and my money is being held hostage for a refrigerator that NEVER LEFT THE WAREHOUSE. 7 on your side, here I come. read more

On September 1st I went to Home Depot to purchase a refrigerator, Paid $1327.78 and set up a delivery for September 22nd. That morning on the 22nd I received a txt from Home Depot saying the delivery was rescheduled for the 1st of October. Now on the 1st we waited all day no delivery. Went to Home Depot that following Monday and complained, they promised me they would get to me asap that was the 27th of October, took off another day of work and they never showed. Wow, what a waste of a trip. I was visiting New Jersey from Manhattan and i needed to go to Home Depot. I was afraid I wouldn't make it to the one in Manhattan before they closed, so I drive the other direction to the Home Depot in Lodi thinking a) I'd get there in plenty of time before they closed to pick up the one product I needed and b) it would actually be better because they were a bigger location and would have a bigger inventory. I got there about 20 minutes before closing and I asked two employees in a row where to find the product I was looking for. Neither of them knew what it was, but rather than looking it up or asking a colleague, each one just gave me a disinterested wave toward another part of the store and went back to what they were doing. By the time I found someone actually interested in showing me where the product was, she said "but we can't sell it to you because we're closing now and the registers are closed." As she was saying this to me, I was watching people checking out on these "closed" registers. At this point I was so disgusted I just turned around and walked out. Horrible customer service and management. I have never been treated so badly in my life. Went to purchase 4 exterior doors for my home...the only thing I left with was a headache and unsettled nerves. After waiting over 30 minutes for help and speaking to the store manager...Gabe at the door department returns from his dinner. Instead of acting professional he rants on about how the state of NJ allows him to eat and he guesses he should not take his dinner break anymore that it must be stopped because I need help. After mocking me (while the manager stood there and did nothing) he kept going off about his dinner break and speaking down to me. Not only was I super uncomfortable and nervous. I was outraged. I was alone and these 3 male employees just let him treat me garbage. Why?? Because I am a women, alone. This man would never has spoken to another man the way he treated me. Let's start off with the basics. The parking lot to me, is a joke! It's always full... They say the best spots are the ones further away. If that's what you have to work with, take it. I've had my share of perfect timings, when I would come here and there's open spots right in front. The problem is that people don't know how to park. So when you done shopping and walking to your car, you realize some jerk squeezed his P.O.S. vehicle into your parking space. How's that Home Depot's problem? Simple... Make the spaces larger! I got to my car a few times and thought someone was playing a joke on me. They literally were a hair away from taking the mirror off my car. The spaces seem tight. And no matter what, people park wherever they want. People that work there, don't know a lot. You have a few veterans here and there (that do have brains), but some employees throw out suggestions, like they just want you to get away from them. I've had my fair share where their advice actually worked out, and other times where I had to go back because something they told me to buy didn't work or fit as they stated. Some workers are rude... that's to be expected, especially when you have customers opening packages trying to steal 5 cents bolts, leaving a mess, and/or actually trying to switch prices on items. But listen, they go off the energy you give them. If you're nice, they're usually nice back. Can't beat the prices here, they give military discounts, and the lines are quick. read more

I have become quite a regular at this HD lately and it has come through for me with each visit. Laid out conveniently similar from store to store, it is still impossible to know where to find everything. Anything that I am unsure of where to look, there are plenty of orange apron clad staff only too happy to assist. Are you looking for piping? Would that be PVC, copper, cast iron, galvanized steel? They have them all and you can probably find some pipers hanging around the area as well. This store is super conveniently located on Route 17 and can be reached from Essex St. as well. There are plenty of self check out registers which move along quickly. The store is always stocked well and the aisles are kept quite clean. The bathrooms are not going to win any awards but they don't smell and are stocked with supplies. I come from the school of thought that if you're a customer service employee then your task is rather simple-- serve the customer. I've had my fair share of customer service jobs(retail and restaurants) so I AM extremely familiar with all the ups and downs of the service industry so I'm a good mix of understanding and critical when I'm faced with horrible customer service. I went in on Saturday to buy a gallon of paint. Simple enough, right? Wrong. I stood for 3 whole minutes waiting for 5 employees (1 of which was eating and looking at me as she was doing this) to finish some non-work-related conversation before someone helped me. 3 minutes isn't long? Click on the time/date icon on your computer and watch it for 180 seconds. You're welcome. I've now introduced you to what can sometimes feel like an eternity. And, to top it all off, no one apologized for their mistake. Scoundrels. The only reason I gave this place 2 stars is because the cashiers are great. I went to the store on both Friday and Saturday and on both days the cashiers were consistent-- polite, quick and helpful. Will I go back? Only as a last resort after all other possible hardware stores options have been exhausted. read more

I've gotten a few around the house items from here and the actual Home Depot/tools/paint etc part of the store is fine. I just came from here to use the garden department and I asked 4 different sales associates/customer service if they had a particular plant (ground cover) and they all looked at me like I was crazy. I understand that 2 out of the 4 were probably not from that department and it was busy for Mother's Day but that doesn't excuse the other 2 people. The one worker literally walked around and said "I don't think we have that" and then walked away after trying to help, I turned to my right from where I was standing and I was literally standing on top of it smh. The plants were all half dead and shabby looking and all overpriced. I will definitely be using a garden center with knowledgeable employees next time, lesson learned. read more

Parking and location are the greatest attributes of this place. Once upon a time, associates could be found in every aisle. On my last visit, it took walking past 7 aisles before I could find an associate to help with an inquiry. I'm sure I could have asked someone near checkout, but they have enough to deal with. What happened to the associates in the aisles? However, this problem is prevalent in stores across the country. I've visited stores in California, Florida, and Virginia and come across the same lack of attention. It's annoying yes, but it's a product of the economy and most businesses are cutting back. We had the worst customer service experience at Home Depot in Lodi, NJ. My husband and I purchased a pressure washer online. When we opened the box, the machine was broken. We went back to the store and the associate said he could only give us store credit. We asked why we couldn't get the money back if their policy is 90 days for returns. The guy said he could only give us store credit because the system didn't allow him to process a return. We needed the machine anyway so we told him that store credit was okay because we were going to buy the machine anyway. A week later, my husband went to purchase the machine with the $446.76 store credit, and guess what? The associate said we couldn't use the credit because they only have the pressure washer available online and we couldn't use store credit to purchase online merchandise. We asked to speak to a manager and when the associate was explaining the situation to the manager named Ryan, all he said was "nothing can be done". He didn't even have the decency to come and speak to us in person. Now we basically lost over $400. What are we going to do with $446.76 store credit that we can't even use to buy what we need? In the last several months we have spent over $25K at Home Depot in house renovation. I guess these $400 is the last money we'll spend at Home Depot. read more

Then I get 3 cans of Lunar Suface color paint which is a grey my painter paints my apartment and when I get in my house is now baby blue and home depot told me that's the color I picked. This place is awful. I called with a very simple question. I asked if they had a Makita RF1101 router in stock. I was on hold for 15 minutes before I was able to ask them. When I finally did they asked me what the price of the item was. I have literally no idea why they asked ME what the price was. I'm guessing they were going to find the item by it's price. I guess the manufacturer and model number was not enough information. After checking to see if they had the item for 5 minutes I was told they would have to check with an associate in another department where I was put on hold for another 10 minutes before they hung up on me. I called right back and was on hold for another 15 minutes before I gave up. The people that work here are in over their heads. The job is simply too difficult for them. The place is awful. The worst home depot ever. Just 2 miles to a better one. Isles are a mess, stuff out of place, and the rudest staff, they can't be bothered to help you or just pay attention while checking you out. Customer service doesn't know where stuff is, and you get passed around to that single person that seems to have a clue. Isle personal have one answer we don't have that. Even tho they carry it, and there is the classic that's a specialty item, love that while I'm holding a drywall screw. Worst Home Depot ever. Their Home Delivery company driver pushed me slamming the truck door. They scheduled a redelivery for the same order and would not even change the delivery company (named Home Delivery America or something like that). They would not even assure that the driver would be different. To top it, a guy called Frank from Home Depot Lodi started suggesting me that it was my fault and if I shouldn't have gone to the truck of the delivery guy, he couldn't have pushed me or slammed the door. My wife was with me and were my neighbors and the construction workers too. All got shocked by the behavior of the driver. When I tried to reschedule for this order that is worth more than 3 grand plus, they offered me a nominal discount of 250-300 bucks after I made 100 phone calls. ***PAINT DEPARTMENT/ PAINT SPECIALIST LAMONT*** I went to this location last week around 8:00 p.m and the department that I was browsing in was the Paint Department. I was with my bf and we had about 8 paint samples in our handle to try to pick from and that when PAIN SPECIALIST LAMONT CAME TO THE RESCUE! What Lamont did for us and the time he took out to help was was unbelievable! HE KNOWS HIS PAINT! We are closing on a house soon and wanted to paint the ENTIRE house over. For about TWO HOURS LAMONT HELPED US! He went over room to room ceiling to flooring with us. We made an entire list of paint color and supplies we need for our project. Lamont walked us through isles to show us the products, informed us what type of paint is used for what (example molding, ceilings, cabinets etc etc) I didn't even know ceiling has a specific type of paint! Lol he was very nice and professional. I RECOMMEND EVERYONE TO TRUST HIM, you won't be disappointed! I did ask for a manager at the reruns desk to give this compliment in person but the women at the desk told me there was no manager available -_- I told her what it was in regards too and she said she'll "leave a note."
