McCoy's Building Supply is a small hometown lumber and construction supplies store…read more This Hobbs location is near the corner of Dal Paso St and Bender Blvd. It's a fairly large store. My bosses like to support this company every chance they get. They may not have the most extensive selection of items, but their customer service has been excellent... always offering assistance & checking on customers. Their prices are competitive with the much larger big box stores Home Depot and Lowes - both with Hobbs locations as well. I'll definitely be back.

A lot has changed since my original review…read more Customer service has been wishy washy since I moved back to Hobbs a year ago after being away since 2012. And customer service has always been a roller coaster at the returns section, but lately it was terrible. On three occasions, they took a while to acknowledge me. Today (10/16/2023) I was met with some fairly nonchalant, unhelpful workers. Wasn't acknowledged. There were 4 of them standing there. Eventually one said they be with me shortly. Finally I get help. This girl was a bit distant. Told me I couldn't get store credit for something I bought long ago... okay, but I've returned stuff without receipts plenty of times & never got this amount of grief. I'll explain more on why this Lowe's is lacking, though... my personal policy is to not complain on Yelp unless I've already notified a manager. Done. So here is the s*** show... On Friday, October 13, 2023, an employee used a forklift to put a toilet in the back of my Jeep. A forklift! It took 2 employees to do this actually. One being a spotter. All I wanted was someone to help me lift the box into the back with me because the box was so bulky, but they went super stupid and used this contraption that made me as nervous as a needle to the eyeball with it because I seriously thought they were going to f*** up my Jeep with it. Back in July (2023) I was FINALLY told by an employee in doors/windows that the guy who was originally in control of my window order from February 2023 quit and the ball was dropped completely when one of my special order windows arrived broken. Why did they never call all those months?! Why did they keep telling me the opposite of what Lowe's Customer Service hotline kept telling me? That issue got resolved after several excruciating phone calls and me trying to find the right person to talk to. My window was eventually set up for installation in August 2023 when it could have been done in May. I paid for them in February! Back in March 2023 I had over $8,000 worth of flooring delivered to my house with a forklift. The Lowe's employee ended up busting the pallet by pushing it with the fork in an unstable area on the pallet... the boxes of premium flooring scattered across my garage floor. He started complaining about his employees "who should have wrapped it up better" then and I should have taken that as a red flag. He kept referring to me as babe and baby. Don't expect a lot of help from many of the younger faces who work here. The majority of them act like whiny toddlers when faced with a challenge then leave you high and dry. A group of them were horsing around and talking about non-work related stuff in the ceiling fan area... then asked if I needed help. No. Not with that lack of unprofessionalism. A returns employee claimed they couldn't give me store credit anymore for perfectly boxed, new items because the items the amount would be nearly $500. Then it was because it was on a MasterCard. Then it was because my receipt was too old. Would she have said the same thing if I said I paid it with cash and lost my receipt? No... Then the manager from the floor pursued to tell me that "they're really cracking down on that [30-day return policy] and their bottom line is hurting." It's 2023 - I think everyone's bottom line is hurting! I guess spending over $20,000 here so far this year isn't enough to keep me as a customer by giving me store credit for 6 boxes of unused flooring that they didn't get to me until 8 weeks after ordering. So disappointed in this store.

My husband asked a question to him and all he could say was "that's a good question" but didn't make any effort in trying to help or find someone to help us. He had that dumb look in his face, not knowing what to do. Can I make a suggestion? Please start training your employees. They have time to look at their phone but not time to learn their departments. 5 years ago I remodeled our kitchen & bought $23,000 worth of merchandise. But at that time you had a great guy knowing about remodeling. Of course, he's not there anymore!! Please make an effort in training your employees! Carol P .

Today (June 22, 2026), a Tractor Supply employee at the register told me they "can only price match…read morewith local vendors." Um, so why then has this Hobbs store price-matched my dog's Dentastix before? Multiple times? It was only an approximate dollar difference, but still. It's funny because when I got home Amazon Alexa said, "Yes, Tractor Supply will price match Amazon" blah blah blah. Then Google AI says "no..." to the same exact question. Lol. Then when you ask Google AI a different way - "Has Tractor Supply ever allowed price matching with Amazon?" then it states, "Yes, Tractor Supply allows price matching with Amazon, but with strict conditions. They only match items sold and shipped directly by Amazon." Not allowed, but allows. This latter information coincides with what a manager at this location originally told me not long ago. This is all too funny because the Dentastix variety pack that I showed the women at the counter specified, "Shipper / Seller : Amazon.com." Hobbs has an Amazon facility. Either way I am fairly disappointed with all of my experiences this year for this reason and others at this location. Today's incident was just "the final straw." Again, why did your other employees offer me price matching on several occasions within the last 6 months when I showed them the Amazon app?

Higginbotham Bartlett is overall a very good hardware and building supplies store…read more It's located across the street from Xcel Energy and the US Post Office in Hobbs, NM. My latest encounter on 10/18/2023 was like all others before - the employees are helpful and know what they are talking about here. The prices are very competitve with Home Depot and Lowe's, however, you won't find quite as many options at HB as you would the other big name stores. Parking is plentiful and accessible out front or on the side where an additional entrance exists. My boss prefer to get all of their cement here for their various projects... he has commented about that fact numerous times.

Harbor Freight Tools for me is synonymous with deals and their neverending conquest to hook you…read morewith their coupons... which are available on their website. The most recent good deal I recall was on blue shop towels ($2.79). A nearby local auto parts store at the time was selling a similar bundle at a higher cost. Besides that, the employees here were friendlier and more helpful. There are some tools that I roll my eyes at and think, "Meh, there's better quality at ________" (won't mention any other stores here, though). Lately I've been obsessed with tools (electric and hand), constantly on the lookout to add to my collection. Today (1/31/2023) I noticed this 30-watt 5-in-1 hobby woodburner by Schneider for $19.99. This particular store is not huge, but it's decent for a small town. Also, it's not always as tidy as I think it should be. They are, however, usually in stock of items within about a week of being posted to their ads. If you're young and trying to build up your credit, I suggest their financing program because tools are something you will always need & friends like me don't like loaning them out. Lol. If you qualify, they have been known to offer "0% interest equal monthly payments." Not sure if that's a year-round offer. Ample, free parking in a plaza lot between Wells Fargo Bank and Hobby Lobby.
