I wound up getting veggies for my garden. A couple weeks later everything is looking really good and growing really well. Fingers crossed for lots of vegetables! I couldn't resist buying a hibiscus that was flowering and looked so pretty. It needed to be transplanted to a bigger pot but I don't see one there that looked big enough so I bought one at Home Depot instead. It is also doing really well. We looked at the rose bushes but they didn't have the size and color I wanted so decided to go elsewhere for that. Overall it was a good experience and I would come here again.

Inside, they have a small farmer's type market with fresh fruits and veggies along with local honey and baked goods. The staff is extremely helpful, especially Jan! But we just enjoy the final product more than the actual maintenance. I have been in this building years ago when it was an art gallery. But it has certainly been a while. They have such an extensive variety of plants, books, and other gift ideas here at Shoppe. And it is nestled in Forest Park which is one of my favorite neighborhoods in the city. They made good use of the space they have for outdoor plants. The greenhouse they installed is absolutely beautiful! My wife said they will host some events in there. And the inside store also has a lot of great plants to put in your house. I was fascinated by some of the books they have for sale. Since they do fill their entire space inside and out with beautiful plants, this is a very aesthetically pleasing spot to walk past and also check out.

They always seem annoyed by questions or even just me being there (maybe their grumpiness is part of their charm??) but the poor customer service has been on another level. I bought a plant in the spring that was mislabeled and when it bloomed, it was the wrong plant and was actually invasive. I called to let the shop know and they didn't offer a refund or replacement, even though I had to tear it out and destroy it. (We will see this spring if I was able to remove it all or if I have a difficult problem on my hands now.) I decided to try them again and just stopped in for a hostess gift and bought something from the discounted table and the man behind the counter made it so uncomfortable when I corrected them after being charged full price. They also offered to add a bow and tacked on a $5 charge, which seems excessive especially given the lack of upfront notice on the price. I really want to support local small businesses but I genuinely don't understand how they expect customers to want to keep coming back when they present themselves in such a manner.

She seems to favor the Cahaba Heights location over the Mountain Brook village but I'm not sure that it doesn't have to do as much with the neighboring Crestline Bagel location as selection, etc. We have ended up at both locations the same day on multiple occasions.
