I really do not have any other hardware store to compare this place too, but within the past few weeks, I have really enjoyed my shopping experiences here. I most recently came into this location last week to purchase a lot of blinds for our new home. I thought about hiring a company to install the blinds, but after receiving the price quote, I said no way jose. I figured, people cannot be paying over $4K for blinds. I mean that's like paying a mortgage, car payment, the security system etc. I did some research and asked around, and the consensus was to check The Home Depot. I researched their blinds, read the reviews and saw the price... these were a sure win! We bought the - White Cordless 2 in. Faux Wood Blind - 35 in. W x 64 in. L (Actual Size 34.5 in. W x 64 in. L) by Home Decorators Collection These blinds are grrrreat! The beauty of them, the picture do not do them any justice. My babe had a friend to do the installation... one blind took less than 5 minutes. I have never installed blinds before, only shades. But from what I saw, these are easy to install, you just need a small handheld drill and wahla! I encountered a few employees and they all were pleasant and easy to talk with. The checkout process was fast and easy too. And go figure, someone named Maria checked me out :) Plenty of parking here. I cannot wait to return to see what other great finds they have. This is the worst Home Depot I've ever been to. Most Home Depot's have workers left and right if you need assistance, they all greet and ask if you're finding everything okay. At this one, you go wait in the appliances for a worker and there is no one in sight. You ask another associate (which is hard to track down) and they say there is someone who works that counter but they don't know where they are. If you need some flooring cut, good luck. We looked around and stood around for probably 45 minutes trying to ask about getting vinyl flooring cut. There are people working at desks but they have customers and they don't try to get anyone to help even though they see you trying to get help. They could easily call for help. We walked all up and down the aisles trying to find someone to help us. The customer service here needs a lot of work, it is so frustrating trying to do a home project and these people are supposed to assist in people buying supplies. When you do come across an associate, they are just in the way or messing around. It's like all the workers are there to do restocking and moving of items but no one is there to help customers. read more

We had a poor and frustrating experience. They were running an appliance promotion. They were offering $450 off if you purchased over $3000 in appliances. We had mad a purchase of a stove for $1073, and a week later (keep in mind, we hadn't received delivery of our stove yet), we spent $2321 on a refrigerator. They refused us the full $450 discount unless we cancelled the stove purchase and re-enter it. We agreed but did not want to delay the delivery of our stove (being delivered in 2 days). They refused. If we re-entered the transaction for the stove, we would need to wait 12 more days for the stove. I said we already have it scheduled. Why can't you still deliver the stove we ordered? They refused. Our current stove was no longer working. We needed one ASAP. We did not cancel the stove order. We ordered the refrigerator, but based on a technicality , it did not qualify as a $2000+ appliance purchase to get us over the $3000+ threshold because it was a $1679 refrigerator with $400 of front panels. I advised the manager that the posted price on the refrigerator says $2079, it comes with front panels. Needless to say, we were shortchanged $200 worth of discount based on false advertising and disceptive practices. read more

I went into Home Depot and I wanted a light for my hallway. I wanted something different not the standard ceiling Hugging light with glass and gold trim. I found a display piece only for sale on the website. I went home looking on the website for the item. It came back no longer carried. I want it back to the store and ask the lighting and Electric specialist, Eric, if I could buy the display. He was awesome. He made a couple calls around to other Home Depot stores in the area and found two more in a box. Then he requested assistance to unmount the store display while I shopped for other items. When I returned Eric was gone but my light fixture had been removed and boxed for me. I saved over 100% per fixture. Pottery Barn wanted $399.00 for the same fixtures I paid $79. At this location near just square you receive outstanding customer service and the best prices in Hampton Roads. The management and staff work with you to make sure that you're satisfied. read more

I'm not sure what the flying hockey sticks is going on with Home Depot as a whole......but these places are going totally down the drain. It's like they are actively trying to force customers out of the stores and order online. Product clogging up the aisles, no carts cause all the internet orders are on the available carts......a whole passel of orange shirt people constantly in the store scanning crap but can anyone actually help a customer????? HA!!! Accuracy of app inventory has gone from pretty decent to an absolute joke. I came to this HD to order cellular shades and the department rep was extremely helpful. We looked at several brands and types. He also was able to show me pricing options. Once I decided which ones I wanted, he went in the back and cut them to size. While waiting for my shades to get cut, I walked around the store with my puppy and worked on commands with distractions. I walked out with perfectly measured blinds and a puppy who's belly was filled with treats. Today was a good day. read more

Nyah at the checkout was very efficient and friendly. That was where my pleasant experience stopped. I told her I needed help loading the 105 lb box into my car. She asked one employee to help me; he made some excuse and walked away. She asked another employee for help as he walked by; he kept walking. I went to the customer service desk to ask for help. The clerk identified "the loader" to help me. He looked at me and turned away. He was busy attending the "team meeting" that the manager was holding in front of the Customer Service desk. I waited for assistance for a full ten minutes in plain view of all the store's employees and was absolutely ignored. I managed to leverage the box into the car on my own. The store manager should find another job. Or hold his damned meetings when the store is closed and the customers are gone. read more

I frequent my Home Depot atleast monthly for their kids workshop. The assistant is lovely and is always genuinely happy to see us. You can't go wrong with a free kids activity, pin, apron and certificate. My kids enjoy making the projects and I enjoy the time together that we get just for this. If nothing else we set aside time for this every month. This store is clean and I can say I always see an employee walking around. In this store it is so much easier to ask for where an item is. I also appreciate being walked to the item or atleast to the aisle. read more

I asked her what is her problem and she said she hates everybody in the store, including Home Depot. I honestly think Stephanie should find a new job. It's sucks that they cut FOR FREE just the first 2 cuts of wood. Also the cashier "Abigail" was not courteous at all. Nobody was behind me but she was trying to put all my items so fast that she drop the barcode reader. No hello or thank you at all. Not very customer friendly. My HVAC unit went out about two weeks ago, and I was in search of window/portable units until I could get someone out. Not only did they have the best priced units, they were available immediately for curbside pickup. The first 2 worked wonderful, until a few days later we started smelling something sweet and found out one of the Toshiba window units was leaking Freon. So, I went and returned it for a portable unit and it was a blessing in disguise because a pro associate approached me while shopping and asked how old my HVAC unit was. Talk about coincidence! Store associate Amber was absolutely wonderful. She was super friendly, helped me load the a/c in my trunk while conversing friendly, and then thanked me and shook my hand. I will most certainly be back to this store! This is the best customer service I've seen in a while. The only complaint I have is that when I went to return the unit leaking Freon, the woman at the customer service desk was on her phone and didn't realize I was standing there for a few minutes, then wasn't very friendly. Waited over an hour for an online pickup. I believe Juanita was the lady helping us. She was very condescending and not very helpful in speeding up a fairly easy request. We had two large boxes and had to repeatedly go inside to remind them we were outside with our truck- where she told us to be. I only gave two stars because the other staff members did try to help but somehow it still took over an hour. Very disappointed. Should have gone to Lowe's. read more

I needed a light to mount over my garage. A neighbor had their car broke into and I figured I needed more lighting. I found a light that had the motion sensor and different settings that suited my needs. I got it at a decent price. I like that they give you a military discount (even for me - retired). I find that there are not enough employees around to ask questions of. All in all - it was a decent shopping experiance. I will be returning. The store itself is well stocked, clean and kept. The employees I happen to meet today werent trained well for customer service. Which looks bad on employee and employer. Had an employee tell my friend who had her leashed trained rotti/pit pup, how dogs like that are bred for attacking. I personally had an employee look at my german who is also well trained and leashed ,he comes there at least one a week, go oh hell naw and walk away while i was asking for assistance. Home depo is a dog friendly place. Learn ways to let the owner know hey im scared of dogs but let me find someone who can help you or get a job that doesnt have you meeting dogs. How do you rate a Home Improvement Store? They are a necessary evil. What would be nice is to find somebody just once in a while who doesn't treat you like you are at an Auto Parts Store. This Home Depot does ok in this department if you can find someone available to help you. These guys are usually ok but often in their own zones. I love Home Depot. Lately I spend alot of time defending them against the dumbest internet rumor ever. Nevertheless, my experience yesterday was unacceptable. The saddest part is, I went to their web site to offer feedback, and they didn't have a vehicle for feedback. So maybe they will see it here. I needed a large order of landscaping rocks for a project. I called in advance to find out when my order would be ready if I purchased online. They first told me 2 hours, but when she found out that I was OK with 2 hours, her answer changed to "I can't guarantee you it will be ready today, because I don't know how many orders we have ahead of you." Which I translated to "I'm not going to bother to check to see when your order will be ready, so go away." I called Lowe's and asked the same question. Their answer was 15 minutes. This hurts because I'm team Home Depot and my wife is Team Lowes. I made my purchase at Lowes. The receptionist seemed to have no concern that she was turning away a paying customer, and no way to know that I shop there at least twice a week. My impression of Lowes was elevated just because Home Depot essentially sent me there. Now I'm 50/50. read more

Store was well stocked but very poor customer service. I came to purchase a door and waited and searched for about half an hour for assistance in the door isle. Eventually I just ended up figuring four how to get to the door I needed out myself and ended up picking up the door myself to load it in my cart and then into my truck. Very disappointed in the customer service at this store! We did an online order 2 days ago and didn't get a notification for our pick up to be ready until the evening of that day which our order was placed first thing in the am. So we went the next day to pick up the order and 40 min drive to this home depot because we live near the NC border. They had me the items my Husband bought and I got home and we were missing most of the items which was super frustrating so we called and no apology they stated " the guy simply didn't bring all the items out and we can just refund your card" said in a complete attitude nothing of " oh we are sorry" or anything of that sorts so I drove back up there and they had an complete attitude when I asked to make sure all the items were there and explained that it was very inconvenient for the customer and they just blew it off. I will never visit this home depot again the customer service is so bad and they don't need our business I will being going to Lowes for now on! The least they could say is sorry for that inconvenience of having to drive an hr and 20 mins to pick up an order and wasting 1/4 tank of gas! read more

I love this Home Depot, so this is more about the sub contractors through Hunter Douglas. My wife and I needed some custom blinds for a custom sliding door application. We went to this Home Depot and set up an appointment for an in home consultation. The girls came out and were awesome, we paid over $1,000 for what we thought would be a solid set of blinds. Three weeks go by, we get our first attempt for installation. They were hung too low and he forgot our hardware for the double valence. Ok, not a huge deal. We wait a couple of weeks and he comes back out with the valence, but it's damaged and does not have all the parts we ordered. Ok, we we are frustrated now. Third trip, still does not have all the parts, the valence is crooked, and you can see the mounting hardware from across the room. And the visible hardware (like the wand) is cheep flimsy plastic. Now, the contract stated we could not return the product and based on what we thought we were getting, we did not mind. We ordered the blinds at the beginning of November. It is January fifth and we do not have a completed installation. At what point are we allowed to hold Home Depot and Hunter Douglas responsible for their breech in contract for failure to deliver an agreed upon product? Avoid this process folks. It is WAY to convoluted leaving a thousand passages for the next representative to 'pass the buck' to the next department. Pay the extra money and get a local professional to do your custom blinds. My wife and I are new home owners and clearly learned this lesson the hard way. We should have stuck with the Walmart stuff we ordered and hung in other rooms. It actually looks better! read more

Ordered a storm door from this location. After the contractor came to measure, the door needed to be custom ordered due to the measurements. When the door finally arrived, I received a phone call from the scheduling personnel to schedule when to come out to install the door. I missed the phone call and called twice and left two messages and still no response. I finally called the store to inform them that I had yet to receive a phone call back. Two days later I received a phone call to schedule the door installation. When the contractor arrived, the door was too small (The original contractor measured wrong), and wasn't a custom order door, it was a standard door. The contractor (the only good thing in this entire situation) drove to Home Depot to swap out the door for me. Took 30 minutes and it was all over. read more

Home Depot has gotten so bad with customer relations I will never shop at any location ever again! This year alone I have spent thousands at Home Depot and in the past three weeks the customer service has ruined me or my family and friends from ever shopping there again. I recently purchased over 1100 dollars worth of tile for my backsplash the store did not have any in stock and I was told they could not order it for me that I would have to order it online which they did in the store. I said ok it took over two hours to get the order in and when I saw the total it did not add up to what the tile was priced at in the store the online price was over 1.00 more per sq ft at which I was told they could not price match that I would have to pay the online price and then was told that they could not honor my military discount either because it was an online purchase and even if they could Home Depot now only allows for a 50.00 savings for military on any purchase. Fast forward to today I had two extra boxes of tile left and went to the closest Home Depot to return them...they informed me they could not return them at that Home Depot store because I purchased it at a different location even tho the Home Depot website states that you can return any item at any location. Home Depot has become a joke and has lost multiple customers for life because of the poor choices made by management! read more

I have delt with the limited selection and tighter than usual aisles for years because the location is close to my house but after being turned away this morning because you had a customer that didnt like my dog, that's the last straw. (Mind you my dog only interacted with one child who was with her parents and asked me if she could pet him). This Home Depot is located next to everything in the Chesapeake Square area. for me, the staff is always accommodating and I never have to wonder where anything is. I have read some reviews about staff not being helpful and whatnot but I have only really experienced a less than pleasant employee one time. I adore the garden section. it seems better organized than some of the competitors. I also really like the daily deals they have and the motivated team members. this morning they were all doing some go team chant and it was awesome. The kitchen customization options are great. However, there is one know it all employee over there that I personally plan to avoid at all costs in the future. However, other employees in that department can really help you realize your concepts and explain all the details very clearly (and not patronizingly) so there are no surprises or hidden costs. I prefer Home Depot to some of its competitors simply based on the availability of products and helpful store members. read more

Ahhh. You buy a home...guess what? Home improvement stores will be your new favorite store. I'm not sure...but it's a toss up between here and lowes. Anyways...you came here for a review. The store itself is neatly organized and to me is as clean as a store of this type can get. However, as you walk around and questions about this and that pop up in your head, you will realize they are severely understaffed here. Prepare to wait around for a bit to get a question answered or for assistance. But, when you are finally helped, you will come across some very nice people. It's only been on a few occasions that I have come across a cranky employee, and believe me I am sure to bring them back to reality. The prices are comparable to lowes (of course that is their direct competitor! ). Some things you may find cheaper here, some over there. When I was buying flowers, their selection appeared healthy and well kept. In conclusion, the only drawback is that they are short staffed. If you can deal with that and you aren't really in a hurry, then this is a pretty ok place to shop at. read more

Never buy anything that needs installing from Home Depot.Their installers are unreliable.Had to pay for a separate installer for kitchen appliances because Home Depot's installers would not install the appliances because of perceived problems with cabinets and counters.Corrected 1 real issue myself and still would not install.Hired installer had zero issues and appliances are going strong.Second issue is that I have been waiting for a door install for a month and a half.Cancelled twice for weather,problem is there has been no rain during the scheduled times.The last appointment was apparently cancelled by installers company early in the morning but was not informed until after afternoon appointment was past.No communication whatsoever,very unprofessional.Will never use Home Depot again,going to go to Lowes instead for everything. read more

Went today for their Labor Day sale for the store brand mulch they advertised at 5 for $10. This was the second store of theirs I visited today that was sold out of every color of mulch but one. At least if you're going to advertise a multiple day sale, have your product in stock the entire period. Order enough in advance to keep up with customer demand. Plus, as always, I showed my military ID because I bought another brand that was still on sale but more expensive than the original brand i wanted and they didn't honor my military ID which allows for 10% off. HD is no better than OK at its best, and Romanoff is killing the company's rep in this area. They are O for 3 with us, and never again. Latest: ordered kitchen countertop and tile back splash on 6 March, paid in full for granite. Figuring that HD would work the scheduling and process, I ended up calling each of the vendors, except for plumbing who contacted me, because of their respective tardiness. Example is that I made the initial contact on 14 March (we started this 6 March), and actually spoke with Courtney on 15 March (did I mention that we started this 6 March), the granite people, to see when they were coming to measure/do the template. This was in order to schedule the tile people on demo. Had HD call the tile people, Romanoff, on 14 March (did I mention that we started this 6 March) to schedule the demo required for the template when that got scheduled. The contractual agreement clearly stated demo and install of tile is included in the amount already paid; now Romanoff wanted $238 more for the install if they had to come out twice. $238 was more than the original cost for both demo and install together. Never got a call back from Romanoff after calling to question the amount. Brooke stated the manager was in a meeting and would call in about 30 minutes once out of a meeting. Still waiting, Brooke. Never got a call back from the granite people, did I mention Rock Solid Surfaces, on the scheduling of the template. Still waiting, Courtney. We cancelled all on 18 March (did I mention that we started this 6 March). What a deal: pay in full up front so that HD can soak the interest and we got absolutely nothing for our money in return. God work if you can get away with it. Ought to be a crime. HD stated that they thought that the Romanoff charge was excessive, and did nothing to intercede. Never again. read more
