The kitchen department is in disarray. They consistently take your money while hiring some of the worst contractors. They are willing to install broken cabinets and countertops, and they rarely follow up with the contractors. One of the contractors, named Ken, is particularly dishonest. He often complains about his manager, Sarah, but then goes back to the store to complain about us. This has been a huge mistake; they have taken my money. I am hiring a lawyer to review my case and ensure that everything is handled correctly. read more

Outstanding guest service from the curb to the checkout! I ran in a few minutes before close, with the crazy idea of getting what I need for a surprise bedroom makeover, and not knowing what I needed or how to do it. I told Danielle in Paint that I needed to clean up and prep the walls--and maybe the ceiling--for painting, through the primer stage. I would stop there and let the homeowner make remaining decisions. Danielle took up the challenge, spring into action, and got it all together for me in ten minutes! She reassured me that I could handle it, and she (quickly) took me through the steps. She recommended a no-sand spackle since the holes all are small; an adhesive remover to take off what's left after the glue-on lights are removed; blue masking tape in the most useful width; rollers and brushes appropriate to the job, including a fuzzier roller that I'll need for the popcorn ceiling; and a gallon of Kilz2 to prime with. Kudos to Home Depot for hiring and training a diverse workforce whose culture is to take care of their guests. Much appreciated. read more

I cannot say enough about the wonderful help I received today at this Home Depot! From Ben and Nick at the flooring department to J who guided us to the vanities area where Jake and the lovely lady,who works at the vanities department as well, helped us so much! I forgot the name of the kind young man (he puts all the displays together I was told) he brought us two bottles of water! I hope the manager sees this review and takes the time to do something special for these wonderful employees! Kind, professional and knowledgeable! Also, I need to mention Nicky at the self help register she made sure we didn't have any problems as we were checking out the merchandise! Beautiful personality she so adorable and kind! I am guessing that corporate does not know that the number of unhelpful employees at the Avon, Ohio store severely out number the helpful employees. you can enter that store anytime, any day and have a minimum of 5 employees standing within the return counter doing NOTHING. hope you are ready to completely feel ignored, because that is exactly what will happen. if you need help anywhere in the store, because probably no one is there, head over to the return counter and just try to get someone's attention. My guess these employees are friends with the management. Maybe corporate should ask themselves, why is Menards taking our customers? It is not due to a better selection, or to the rebates, it is due to the helpfulness of their employees. read more

The fact that the price of an ounce of wood is more than gold really didn't make going to Home Depot a pleasant trip. Once in the store I picked up two 4x4x12 and six 4x4x8. I do have a miter saw that can cut 4x4s but thought I would see if Home Depot would do it and save me some time. Pick out my wood and head to the saw in the back. Two gentlemen went to the other saw to help a customer. The only needed one to do the work the other proceeded to walk away. I asked if he could help me. He said, "Sure." and came over. He asked what I needed. I showed him my cart of wood and asked the 12's to be cut to 25"s. He didn't hear me and asked if the whole cart. His eyes got large. I reassured him no just the 12's. At this time I asked his name and found out it was Jeff. Jeff cut my wood to perfect 25" and did it with a smile. He fist bumped at the end and wish me a happy day. I been saw shamed at other big box stores. But not from Jeff. It put a smile on my face. Once up front I asked for the manager to let her know how awesome Jeff was. Also before typing this I answered the survey on my receipt. Which I never do unless someone really pisses me off. Truthfully a simple hello and pleasant smile and how can I help you put a crappy day at work in the rear view mirror. If a guy in the lumber department at Lowe's has an apron with name Jeff Smile and show him some love. read more

Home Depot rocks! When deciding between Lowe's or HD, I usually prefer the latter. The store is nicely layed out and employees have always been friendly and knowledgeable, especially in the paint department. I feel sorry for the workers during the Labor Day sales..it gets crazy at the paint desk. Lol Their Behr paints are pretty good..Maybe 2nd behind Sherwin Williams. I bought some Behr deck stain this summer, so hopefully it holds up through the harsh winter weather. Home Depot does carry Toro, Honda, Ariens, and Cub Cadet lawnmowers and snow blowers, all very good brands. I'm partial to Toro and Honda myself. Their appliance selection is great...Samsung, LG, GE, Whirlpool, etc and their prices very competitive. They will price match competitors too...just bring in the ad! I love walking through the lumber section there...the smell of the pressure treated wood is just intoxicating...mmmm... Oh and if you're a veteran or active military with a valid ID, you can save 10% off any purchase, excluding labor! My dad hooked me up with a discount on a hot water heater recently and saved me $48! Oh and the self-checkout kiosks are awesome. Never had an issue with them. read more

Russell- the new Assistant Manager is AWESOME! I'm currently remodeling my kitchen and was completely disappointed when I picked up my counter tops and sink. 1 of the 8ft counter tops was damaged and the sink was dented!! The counter tops could of have been ordered but the waiting time was unacceptable! Russell took his time with us, opening boxes of other sinks to check for damages and discounted the counter top. If half of the employees at Home Depot handled their customers as well as Russell did, I'd never shop at Lowe's! Thank you Home Depot for having Russell as your team member! He is what has made this customer happy!!! read more

Shopped there for years. Came in with a black person and got worst service ever. They seemed so bothered to even have to talk to us. Then sent us to the opposite end of the store with wrong directions. What we asked about was right next to him! Stay away if not white imho. read more

I usually go to Home Depot over Lowes and went up there to buy a new weed wacker, in which the the website said they had 3 in stock. When I got to the lawn care isle they seemed to be out. Luckily there were TWO garden center employees at the end of the isle helping ONE woman. I stood near them waiting for one of them to help me and after about 5 minutes one of them looked up annoyingly at me and said "um...is there something you need?" (No I just like eavesdropping for he fun of it) I said "yes, I can't seem to find the weed wacker I came in for, it says you have 3 on your website" he sarcastically replied " yeah it's probably in the back, you're more than welcome to go dig back there for it" I was so blown away that someone on the clock would actually give that response to a customer that I sort of stood there in shock for a minute then replied "well bud, you're the one getting paid here, so maybe you can go give it a look" The employee then walked up and down the isle I was already in and proclaimed "yep, looks like we don't have it" without making a single effort to go to the back. I was so fed up I left my cart of gardening supplies and went down the road to Lowes. I think it's safe to say I will be doing this all on Amazon next time because my UPS driver never never seems to mind doing his job read more

I recently moved to the area from Erie County, Ohio where we also had a Home Depot. I seldom went to that store because employees weren't helpful and I could never find what I was looking for and wasted a lot of time wandering the store, looking for someone to point me in the right direction. After I moved to Lorain County, I special ordered a GE refrigerator from another big box store in Avon Lake that was supposed to be delivered in 2 weeks. A month later, it still hadn't arrived. I called to find answers and was told it was back-ordered and it would be another two weeks for it to even ship from the GE factory. Nobody bothered to tell me this fact even though the person I spoke to said they someone should have called me. Fed up, I went to Home Depot in Avon. The employee I spoke to told me he could get the exact refrigerator I wanted installed in my home within the week. He asked if Wednesday would be okay. This was a Monday. I couldn't do Wednesday but said I could do Thursday. He told me someone would call me on Wednesday night to schedule a delivery and installation time the following day. True to his word, someone called Wednesday at 8 p.m. to set up a delivery time for the next day. They arrived when they said they would and had my new refrigerator delivered and running within an hour. Very pleased with the speed and accuracy of this purchase, delivery and set-up. read more

The customer sevice in this store is absolutely horrible. I came in Sunday morning at 920 to get a box of 9 volt batteries. I get in line at the contactors checkout counter. The associate was trying to find 78 ladders that arent where they are supposed to be for another customer. While looking at her phone, facebook of couse, she asks another associate if there are any managers working. This associate is a manager. That manager says call another manager. Why cant this manager help the guy looking for the 78 ladders? So the first associate calls another manager while looking at facebook while the manager just stands there doing nothing. Again why not find the ladders for the other customer or at least tell the associate to put her phone down and stop looking at facebook. 5 minutes pass and i finally decide to leave and buy my batteries at Lowes. It took me less than 2 minutes to walk in, find, and pay for the batteries. If i were the manager i would look at the video to see what happended and fire the associate for her total lack of interest and demote the manager for allowing this to happen. I havent been in this store since june and i will not come back. Lowe and Mennards are much easier to get in and out of and have better customer sevice. read more

This store is a pretty good Home Depot. The shelves are always stocked, and this location rents out tools, power tools, ladders, trucks, and other things to use for home improvement temporarily. The outdoor garden section is very nice and clean and has many options to choose from. There is a second entrance to load up large loads on the far right side of the store with a place for easier checkout of large items as well. The lumber area is also stocked and organized. My only complaint would be that some of the staff are definitely better off at working somewhere where less knowledge of the trade is required. read more

Last May The Home Depot took my money, a lot of it, for a kitchen remodeling project. As of today , 9/21, this project is still not completed and the damage that subcontractors have caused to my home is un acknowledged. My dream of a new kitchen has turned into a nightmare that won't end, featuring an incompetent kitchen designer, a mean construction supervisor, and a subcontractor too horrible for words. This is my first time ever writing a review and feel it is necessary in light of my experience with this Home Depot location. This store was an absolute nightmare for myself and my family. I attempted to use a project loan for my family's kitchen renovation. Prior to doing so, I read similar warnings to the one I am typing now and failed to listen to the warnings... Please don't make the same mistake. After months of back and forth with the flooring and appliance departments at this location, I finally cancelled my project today. They acted like they were doing the customer a favor by permitting me to spend my money there. They even gave me a hard time initially about using my military veteran's discount when I ordered my appliances because the dollar amount of the savings was higher than normally permitted--eventually I got someone to approve it. This store (along with their flooring contractor GS flooring) made repeated false promises about the speed of the installation process and induced me to pay for a bunch of flooring materials that are now sitting in my garage (which they had me pick up myself to "speed up the process"). Still no floor installed months after my "initial measure" and I am returning all materials to the store. I now am at square one and will be starting over with a different company. We finally had a flooring installer show up today, with the first step being the leveling of our subfloor. He walked in my door and asked me to borrow my level because he didn't bring one with him to the job! I kindly asked that those installers leave my home. I also got Home Depot corporate customer services involved weeks ago. That was not helpful and actually seems to have made things worse as the local store employees seemed to be butting heads with Home Depot corporate and refused to cooperate to make things smoother for the customer. Again, do not believe Home Depot's advertisements that suggest you can do a complete kitchen renovation through Home Depot. The left hand does not speak to the right within this company and I have come to realize the whole thing is a giant scam. You simply cannot coordinate appliance delivery, flooring install, cabinet delivery and countertop install. Each process is handled piece-meal and requires weeks of lead time before you can move onto the next. read more

Horrible customer service from the customer service desk rep., Toni and the Assistant Manager. Toni had a chip on her should and was in a mood, well she succeeded in ticking me off to the point of wanting to cancel our entire order. She called over the Asst. Manager who was just as condescending and rude - both on a power trip. We've never been spoken to in such a matter, and do not intend returning to this store. I've never felt so strongly about such treatment, and I was almost in tears over the way we were treated. We recently moved to the area, and our first big purchase was from Lowe's they were OUTSTANDING, we will be taking our business there and not returning to Home Depot - at least NOT the Avon store. read more

Just left my purchase at the checkout. The help in the store, if you can call them that, is terrible. "Over there" is their idea of helpful. I wanted help choosing a paint, I got "whatever you want" and then I got to listen to the clerks bitch about their co-workers while they mixed the color. Two other depts equally unhelpful. Only one clerk at checkout, just self service lines with no one who will walk over and help when they don't work correctly. Then none of my payment types would scan, no reason given, no error just nothing but a beep. I left it all at the register, walked out and now I am at Lowe's. Simple horrible. When there to find a patio box. I thought it would have been located in the outside garden area. The guy working there said it was inside. Another guy said it was outside. Began to wonder if these guys even knew their own store. Then on another day I purchased something else. Came home and it was already broken. Took it back and waited in line behind another guy returning what looked like a whole house. So much stuff. And this place has horrible lumber. Barely find straight and undamaged lumber. I recently bought a refrigerator from this store from the appliance specialist Bob Paulenske. When I mentioned that I did not have the special waterline requirements(that being a shut off valve within six feet of the fridge and on the same floor) his reply was maybe they would install the water line that was there or not. I said what kind of guarantee is that suppose to be? A new fridge and ice maker with no water line did not make sense. He said I could cancel the order or have them deliver it. He then said that "I don't do problems. He also said that no spacing was needed between the walls enclosing since the fridge was well insulated and it didn't matter. I referred him to the bottom of the Home Depot customer delivery success checklist that dimensions must include an additional one inch on all sides for cooling. He said he had overlooked it. With this kind of service remarks on record, I felt he left us with no option but to cancel the sale. I doubt that we will ever shop for anything at this store as long as people like bob Paulenski represents your business. on the up-note the people giving us the refund were very professional and respected our refund request. Tool Rental department is great to work with. Russa and Tim have been extremely helpful with my needs on a tile cutter. I really appreciate the extra mile Russa went with helping me make a few extra cuts I missed during the job. She set up the cutter, grabbed a pail of water and let me finish the job.
