We hosted our daughter's wedding at Highlands Estate one month ago today! The views were amazing and the fall colors of the vineyards in yellows and oranges so stunning! All the photos of the couple turned out absolutely beautiful. The planning of the wedding came together so quickly thanks to Whitney's helpful suggestions and recommendations for caterer , outside hotels and rehearsal dinner restaurants. Our family stayed at the Estate main house including the bride, and maid of honor! The house is so well decorated and welcoming! We loved it! The catering company (Sonoma County Catering) was a family staffed business and so friendly. Heather was the manager we dealt with and she really had to think outside the box for our vegan couple! But the food was delicious and I even heard a few people say that if this was the way vegans eat, they would eat it all the time! So thankful we held the wedding at Highlands Estate! read more

My daughter was recently married at The Highlands Estate and it was absolutely magical. The grounds are stunning and the vineyard leaves had just turned to autumn hues and it felt sumptuous. The wedding was on their ceremony grounds and the picturesque view of the vineyards and hills behind them was like a painting. The cocktail hour was just steps away at the barn level above as was the dinner with market lights (included) hanging above lighting the area and the doors to the bars were open to light the whole in a beautiful glow. Dancing was inside the barn which is spacious yet intimate. There is a shuttle to bring guests from the parking area to the ceremony and also shuttle the couple and their photographer up to their beautiful oak tree and the vineyard for photographs. It made everything so easy and relaxed. The owners, Gard and Whitney, we're so knowledgeable and helpful throughout the process of pulling everything together for the big day! They provided a preferred vendor list and each and every vendor went above and beyond and said that they love working on weddings at The Highlands Estate because everything has been designed to make it almost turn-key for them. The tables and chairs were included in our price and were beautiful. The thing that I appreciated the most was that owners truly cared about making the day dreamy for my daughter and new son-in-law. When my husband and I first started thinking about wedding venues, I wasn't sure how I'd feel about having it at a vineyard. But after seeing the Highlands Estate, I can confidently say I couldn't imagine getting married anywhere else! The setting was absolutely breathtaking. You know those venues that look picture perfect on Instagram and sound too good to be true and then you get there and realize it was all filters and selective memory? The Highlands Estate is not one of those venues. Even the most talented photographer can't do this place's natural beauty justice, no review will ever fully capture how seamless a wedding at The Highlands Estate can be, and no venue owners will be more thoughtful and kind as Whitney and Gard! Every detail is thought through with weddings in mind - even down to the tables! Gard Made the tables extra wide so they could fit decor and place settings without crowding the table. And they're just beautiful. The Highlands Estate is overflowing with natural beauty! Rolling hills with grape vines, vibrant plum trees, lavender bushes and more. I wanted as much of our day to be outside and these views cannot be topped. We chose the gazebo for our ceremony and it was so special. Getting to look at my husband AND rolling hills while we said our "I do's?!" Priceless. The outdoor reception space was a fan favorite too. It was perfect for our intimate 60 person reception. We would have loved to dance under the stars but we still had an incredible time inside the barn on the dance floor. My only regret from the day is not booking the extra hour to stay and play in this beautiful space! My husband and I have already said we want to come back and do a vow renewal here to relive the best day of our lives. There's something for every couple at the Highlands Estate. My son was recently married at The Highlands Estate. If I could give this venue 100 stars, it would not be enough. It was honestly the most beautiful, majestic, magical day I have ever been blessed with. Whitney and Gard welcomed us, our guests and family like we were part of their family. The pride, and love they have for their property is a gift to those who are fortunate enough to visit. They are a lovely, warm couple with immeasurable attention to detail and so talented. They think of everything! I had never met Whitney or Gard until my son's wedding weekend and by the time we left, I felt like we were saying goodbye to our friends. The estate...Where do I even begin? Before the reception, the wedding party and family took photos in the vineyard near the estate surrounded by fall-colored vineyards and rolling golden hills. The scenery is perfection. I would compare this to the hills in Tuscany or areas in Emilia-Romagna! We were offered a shuttle to the reception area or we could drive our own car and park (my husband is disabled). We drove and parked in our personalized parking space pre-marked for our convenience and simplicity. Upon arrival, we noticed everything was PERFECT...Not one thing was out of place. The wedding ceremony was behind a panoramic view of the vineyards and golden hills. I have been a personal assistant and involved with hosting events for over a decade and this event was flawless. Our day was especially exquisite. We had perfect weather...A few minutes of rain right before the ceremony to seal in "good luck" and a rainbow!!!! I don't know how Whitney and Gard pulled that off, but it was magical. :) We also had deer in the beautiful rolling hills behind the reception venue at dinner. We recently had our daughter's wedding here. It is the most beautiful natural setting with the rolling hills, vineyards, and oak trees; it is the quintessential California landscape. Since the bride and groom live out of state we started the search to help them. We were given the wishlist of a rustic elegance, barn and vineyards. We looked at many locations but as we drove thru the main gate of The Highlands Estate and up the drive lined by flowering trees and vineyards we had a good feeling that this was it. We then met Whitney and Gard and knew this was the spot for our families to celebrate this very special moment in our lives. They felt like old friends, so warm and friendly. They truly embrace these weddings like a family member with genuine interest and concern for details. The wedding ceremony gazebo with breathtaking views, barn and farm tables, the view from the old oak tree, and the thoughtful lay out are simply perfect. All our guests were in awe of the setting and the ambiance for a beautiful dinner party. When the wedding photos started to come in they were breathtaking and took us back to our wonderful day. With a big event as this there are always a few challenges but working with Whitney and Gard troubleshooting it made it seamless. Our experience at The Highlands Estate could not have been more perfect! My husband and I fell in love with the venue the second we toured it. The views were unbelievable with the rolling hills and the grounds were so well thought out. While planning a summer 2021 wedding, four of us received a personal tour of the spectacular property from owners Gard and Whitney Cookson. If considering booking your event at the Highlands Estate, I recommend reading and understanding the lengthy contract before moving forward, including Exhibit D which explains their no refunds policy even during a pandemic. TL;DR We could not recommend the Highlands Estate enough!! Whitney and Gard are the most caring, accommodating, and well organized couple and they truly made us feel like family. Not to mention the gorgeous estate, grounds, and thoughtful touches at the venue. Can't thank them enough! We booked the Highlands Estate back in 2020 after having to cancel our original wedding 2 weeks before as a result of COVID. We had a really negative experience with our original venue and were very transparent with both Whitney and Gard about our experience and what we were looking for now that we had to reschedule. Not only were they so empathetic, understanding, and caring, but they also made sure to build in buffers for us due to the uncertainty of COVID to make us feel more comfortable. We ended up having to reschedule a few times again, but finally made it down the aisle last weekend. Gard and Whitney made the process of postponing so seamless and they were so supportive throughout the process. It was abundantly clear to us that they saw us as people first and not just a paycheck. They made sure that there was a human element involved and it wasn't just business to them. As a result, we were able to have the most perfect day we could have ever imaged. Thank you Whitney and Gard for showing us your heart and taking care of us so well. Now about the venue itself- the Highlands Estate is beautiful!! Gard and Whitney have put so much thought, energy, and intention into the venue and it really shows. Even since we booked the venue back in 2020, they have been making upgrades every year, adding a groom's suite, mics built into the ceremony arbor, built in barn speakers, etc. These special touches are just a few of the things that make the venue so unique and special. What a stunning venue! Gard and Whitney were wonderful hosts and very communicative throughout the process. The biggest win of this venue is the absolutely stunning farm tables (built by gard himself!). A lot of other venues in their pictures show amazing tables, but you then realize those are rentals and you have to pay more for that look. These gorgeous tables come with the property and really elevate the whole look. You really don't need to spend a lot of money on decorations cause the venue is so stunning. I also love that we could sneak away to the oak tree at sunset to grab gorgeous photos overlooking the vineyards. Our guests were in awe of how perfect the venue was. This has been a tough year for everyone in the wedding industry so I would take any negative reviews with a grain of salt. It was made very clear to us what the cancelation/ postponement process for this venue was because we booked in the height of covid, and it's very understandable !! So grateful that we were able to have our wedding as planned, and they made it so easy to do so. read more

The home is beautiful and there are a bunch of rooms to relax in! The bedrooms are very clean and cozy. There is a pool and a back porch to relax and watch the sunset. The wedding venue is very pretty! There is a barn house that is a perfect location for a reception that has pretty lights and a rustic feel. As a wedding coordinator and florist, I have had the pleasure of working with many couples and venues throughout the years. Since first being introduced to Gard and Whitney, I have been continually impressed with the care and attention they give every single one of our couples. With the onset of this pandemic, the wedding and event industry (like so many other service related industries) has been hit extremely hard with financial hardships. In order to stay afloat and not loose their entire projected income for 2020, many event vendors have opted to charge engaged couples a rebooking fee to postpone to later dates this year or into next year. With all that is at stake for them, Gard and Whitney have prioritized giving our couples the option to postpone to a later date (a Friday or Sunday), for no additional charge. This is an incredibly generous offer, one that they are not obligated to give, but they do because they care so deeply about their clients. Working with couples who are faced with the awful decision to postpone or cancel their biggest day has been truly heartbreaking. However, working with supportive vendors, like The Highlands Estate, has made the painful process go as smoothly and tenderly as possible. All of our Highlands Estate couples have been able to either postpone to a later date this year, reschedule to next year, or we have a solid Plan B in place just in case we need to postpone last minute. The amount of time and patience the rescheduling and postponing process takes is reason enough to charge a rebooking fee. From offering new dates, to reviewing those dates with the rest of the vendors and close family members, to offering other dates if the first dates don't work - there is an incredible amount of emails and phone calls and time involved in every postponement. Still, Whitney and Gard have given their time, for no additional fee, because they care. Strictly, from a business perspective, this is not a requirement, but a generous gift. I always tell all of our couples who choose The Highlands Estate, and will continue to say it, THIS IS AN AMAZING VENUE! Not just because the property is tucked away in wine-country's rolling hills, overlooking gorgeous vineyards and comes with a big temperature controlled barn - though all of those facts are true. It's also because of the people who own it and take such good care of it and every one of our couples who choose to share their most important day at The Highlands Estate. I visited here 9/7/19 for a relative's wedding. The drive up was a bit winding and also quite long if you do live further especially for those form the Bay Area. However, the weather and hillside views were definitely worth it. The assistants and servers/bartenders were very help and attentive. Parking can be a bit difficult for guest as the space is a bit narrow and it's a small walk from the wedding area however there's a shuttle vehicle with a driver that can drive about 4-6 people at a time. The area for the ceremony gives you a nice view out to the hills and there's is a nice shade provided form a tree, although it can make your pictures darker. The cocktail/hangout area was pretty large and they offer those classic string lights which gives it a nice touch when the evening comes. The dining area can fit about 70-80 people comfortably to my guess. read more

Highlands was the last of many many venues that we looked at for our wedding and the moment my husband and I got there we knew it was the one. It is the perfect setting for the perfect day and Whitney and Gard have thought through every detail of what is needed (and nice to have) for a wedding! We had to postpone our day by a year due to Covid and Whitney was very helpful in working with us and answering all of our many questions along the way. The venue is stunning; we got married in early October and the fall setting was what dreams are made of! The Highlands Estate is the perfect wedding venue in beautiful wine country. We managed to narrow our list down to rustic venues with a vineyard and a barn. That was my main criteria. We managed to narrow our list from 80+ venues to about 10. We thought we had found our venue in, but decided to continue our search by driving further north to Cloverdale. My husband went to go meet the venue owners while I was away on travel in London and when he met Whitney and Gard, that really was it. We were sold on everything: the property, the attention to detail and it had all of the above. Moreover, they were fantastic people and we really care about the people you are going to work with, as they will make or break your day. Whitney, is friendly and detail oriented. Her responsiveness and thoroughness to our every inquiry and question was amazing. Gard himself made the wooden farm-tables (without all those extra charges for every little thing...because they are fair and honest people) and he is incredible and thoughtful in his design and upkeep of the property. Everything was flawless on our wedding day. There is always hiccups that are unplanned for. Ours was rain for the first time in 5 years in september in Cloverdale and a power outage in the entire city. In fact, the entire area had an outage and we were the only venue with a generator so the show could go on. This is a once in a lifetime event, and very rarely does power go out, but we were prepared! Our 150 person, 15 person band, large catering group etc. still had lights/power etc. This just shows you how ready and attention to detail they are. Our family and friends are still raving how beautiful the wedding was, and what an incredible location we choose. Our entire family is from out of town, so taking them up somewhere like Cloverdale was special. The venue is simply stunning, set among rolling hills and vineyards and far from the noise of the highway, it was the perfect place to celebrate our wedding. We toured a number of properties before deciding on the Highlands Estate, but none even came close. The handcrafted farm tables are gorgeous, with the Oak tree providing the perfect backdrop for our pictures and the barn an ideal venue for dancing. It was truly amazing to have our ceremony in such a picturesque setting followed by a wonderful dinner on the patio. But what makes the Highlands Estate special are Whitney and Gard. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by their warmth, kindness and sincerity, and felt very welcomed. Throughout the planning process, they were always supportive and extremely helpful in navigating all the decisions that needed to be made. Perhaps most telling is the fact that every single one of our vendors told us that their favorite place to work was the Highlands Estate. The Highlands Estate is a magnificent 21 acre property surrounded by vineyards and beautiful country views. We came with only an expectation to enjoy a great B&B experience and left with something so much more. Starting with the comfort of the suites, each with their own bathrooms and unique comforts. The fitness room, pool table, movie theatre screening room and of course the swimming pool. The imagination of Gard and Whitney comes through in every detail of the experience. Waking up each morning to the carefully planned gourmet breakfast that includes fruits from the grounds is so special, it's hard to explain. But it doesn't end there Whitney and Gard serve you every morning and will spend time getting to know you. After breakfast they'll even help plan your day and evening should you need their knowledgable help. Everything they recommended was spot on. Gard offered and we graciously accepted a tour of the property which included the magnificent views, the serenity forest and the barn meticulously designed to host a perfect country / vineyard wedding. Well I think you are getting a sense of what a great time we had. More importantly we left feeling we made friends with a great couple who are putting their heart and sole to making every visitor to The Highlands Estate, a trip to remember for a life time. Choosing the Highlands Estate as our wedding venue was a no-brainer. My wife and I knew as we were driving up the driveway that we wanted our wedding to be there. Whitney and Gard, the business owners and permanent B&B residents, had our minds made up very early on. The Highlands Estate was just a really cool venue run by really amazing people. Whitney was incredibly easy to work with, and was incredibly communicative and helpful to us. Whenever we had a question or needed some clarification, she was always quick to offer her guidance. I wish I had a Whitney in my everyday life - as she took a high stress situation and made it incredibly easy on us. Gard is a really exciting guy as well and you can tell just by talking with him that he pours his heart and soul into making the grounds look as beautiful as they do. He built many of the items at the Four Seasons Barn as well, and we were happy to use them for our ceremony and our reception. He was also prompt and helped assist us and our guests throughout the day with transportation. Just like Whitney, I can use a Gard too... And then there is the venue. The Highlands Estate is nestled along CA-128 overlooking a beautiful valley and rolling hills below. The house is large, appealing, and incredible cozy. The barn is updated, sophisticated and modern. The presence of foliage throughout the property make this such a beautiful destination. Both Whitney and Gard are very personable and compliment each other perfectly in running the B&B. They are the best match for this amazing venue. Everything about this place is great - I honestly have nothing disappointing to say except that I'm sad it's all over. We've stayed at Highlands Estate a couple times and it was lovely - well appointed rooms, beautiful common areas including a spacious deck, and wonderful hospitality. We even watched a movie one night with the owners (Whitney & Gard) in the home theatre they put together. Close enough to both the north end of Sonoma County as well as Anderson Valley for some lovely day trips. Also make sure to visit the common room in the evening - they often have some open wine, a little alcohol and some desserts out, as well as plenty of puzzles and games if you want some entertainment. Breakfast has always been delicious and they are receptive to dietary restrictions - my girlfriend does not eat beef or pork and they've always accommodated her well. We've already booked a couple nights later this summer to come visit them again. read more

The Highlands Estate was the second venue my husband and I visited and we knew the second we drove on the property that was our venue! After meeting Gard and Whitney, we knew we had found a special gem. Not only is the property absolutely beautiful, the love and work Gard and Whitney have put into the venue makes every wedding dream come true. The weekend of our wedding, I felt all the stressors easing off as I knew Gard and Whitney had everything under control. They work tirelessly to ensure all the vendors know exactly what they need to do to make sure your special day goes smoothly. Their energy and love for what they do really makes you know you chose the right wedding venue! My husband and I were beyond happy choosing The Highlands Estate and cannot begin to describe how many wonderful stories we have heard from our wedding guests. Every guest from our wedding loved the venue - starting with the ceremony, to cocktail hour in the barn, to a beautiful dinner under the lights, finishing with dancing in the beautiful barn (that Gard built!!). Gorgeous wedding venue! We had our wedding at The Highlands Estate September 9, 2017. We fell in love with the venue the very first time we saw it. Whitney and Gard are amazing hosts and you can tell that they have put their heart and soul into the reconstruction of this amazing working vineyard. The grounds are well kept and the layout was perfect for what we wanted. You do have to rent the entire bed and breakfast (not included in the cost of the venue rental) for the weekend of the wedding. While this was not in our budget originally, we just loved the venue so much we made it work. We had some of our wedding party stay at the B&B. The rest of the guests stayed in town or rented homes in nearby Healdsburg. The breakfast spread is delicious and plenty of food for the B&B guests. Our bridal party and mothers got ready in the B&B on day of, which worked out perfectly. The groom and his groomsmen got ready downstairs in the weight/pool table room. The only thing I will say, is that the downstairs does not have A/C so it can get pretty hot down there, depending on the weather! Whitney and Gard were so gracious and helpful. You can rent the services of a large golf cart/shuttle for your guests which was very helpful for our grandparents. They do have a hard stop on alcohol at 930 and everyone has to be off the venue by 10pm but this worked out just fine for us. Overall, it was an amazing wedding and we will definitely go back to visit! read more

Wow. This is it! This is the most beautiful new wedding property in wine country! My new husband and I fell in love with the Highlands Estate the very first time we came to view the property. And that resulted into the perfect wedding!! I know people say not to expect perfection from your wedding, but seriously, it was perfect. The owners, Whitney and Gard, are absolutely wonderful to work with! Whitney has incredible taste and an amazing eye for design, while Gard is the guy that keeps all the venue in beautiful shape, which equals the perfect venue! They always had a positive and warm attitude which made us feel welcome and as if we had known them for a long time. They are both was extremely responsive and helpful with all questions and requests. And best of all, they did everything they could to help make every dream come true for us, from the white lights inside and out of the barn, to the curtain rods inside all the door so that we can hang all of the curtains we wanted to make the barn look magical and warm! What is really cool and unique about this venue is all the incredible things that they provide, like the hand-made barn tables, in addition to the picturesque scenery. Plus you and your closest family/friends get to stay on the property, which is the most beautiful B&B with a full gym, pool, and movie theatre. You cannot consider getting married in the Sonoma/Healdsburg area without thinking about this venue in Cloverdale. The barn was absolutely breathtaking, the hillside is gorgeous, and your guests will be in awe because of stunning the entire wedding day is. read more

During these crazy PANDEMIC times with Covid-19, I am so happy to be working with such amazing people. Both Gard and Whitney have worked tirelessly with EVERY SINGLE one of my couples to ensure that their dream wedding will take place. They MAY not happen this year... they may not happen on a Saturday, as once planned... but they are not charging any fees (some venues are charging full price AGAIN to have a Saturday wedding and some venues are charging RE BOOKING fees. PEOPLE... the venues did not cause the pandemic. We should be thankful that we are healthy and safe and that the venue is taking all precautions necessary in order for couples to have their dream wedding. I know that Gard and Whitney are doing everything in their power to change dates, schedule back up dates ... even planning back up dates for the back up dates. These are all dates that they could be booking for new clients, but they care so much for their clients that they are holding MULTIPLE dates open for them... just in case they need it ... without charging a dime extra. Thank you Gard and Whitney for making my couples feel like they have a safety net. And for always treating me like family. I don't know how you guys do it, but I have ZERO stress. Just Married! Beautiful Venue, I absolutely loved it. Wine Country. So many backdrops that made the event special. The Modern barn, The vineyards, the meadow, the pond and so much more. The Barn was spacious with A.C. and loved the restrooms. Not a lot of country Venues have attached restrooms. The owners Whitney & Gard communicated from start to finish. Love their hospitality. We had an amazing stay at the Highlands estate for our 10th year anniversary. This would be a top pick for my next trip to wine country. The wines in the area are really yummy and reminds me of how Sonoma used to be 15 years ago. The house, grounds and owners are all wonderful and the rooms spacious, private and very comfortable. The breakfast was delightful, the owners are amazing cooks. Whitney went out of her way to accommodate my diet restrictions - I am Gluten Free and Whitney made some amazing GF Pumpkin pancakes for us to enjoy - just perfect! Both Whitney and Gard are very knowledgeable about the area and will customize your day trips to your needs - so helpful when you are new to an area. Thank-you again for a great weekend, we hope to go back again to see the progress on the grounds and the house and try out the other activities we ran out of time to enjoy. read more
