So, I'm an American who stayed here in late February. It seems that most of the people staying in…read morethis place were Scots or Brits. Keeping this in mind, I'm trying to be very realistic about this place. I stayed in the Lodge and the Cottage. I started in the Lodge and then had to move mid vacation to the Lochside Cottage because of some other people coming into my Lodge. This was a minor pain and I understand the reason, but it seemed as though the staff never considered any other course of action to avoid this. The Staff - The registration staff was simply rude when I delt with them. They corrected me for not following their check-in directions, when I had followed them exactly. The ONLY staff member that impressed me was the Polish gentleman that works in the Rafters bar and grille. Every time that I went into the rafters this guy was working by himself and he was a freaking work horse! He handled everything by himself and did so with a smile. The Accomidations - The WiFi sucks! There is no other way to put this. I know that I am in what some Scots told me is the "middle of nowhere" but if a service is offered, it should be a well functioning service! To that point, the hot water was also bad. In the Lodge, the hot water worked beautifully. When I was moved to the Cottage, the hot water disappeared. My other travels had hot water in the kitchen and the 1st bathroom, but the en suite bathroom in the master bedroom had no hot water! We did everything we could think to do and it didn't work! In America this place would be a $150 a night budget sweet located half a mile off the Vegas Strip. It would be a place that 10 college kids would pitch in to rent while they went out and had their fun in casinos. They would only use it to sleep and have sex in, and they would leave it looking like it had been used that way when they left. Having said all this, I had a wonderful time in Scotland and the location of this "Resort" is wonderful. The scenery is gorgeous and the advatnage of having a kitchen and food in your lodging cannot be overlooked. I am also not terribly picky and can overlook certain things when I am in a great mood. I would stay here again, but I will definately look for other accomidations before settling on it again. I would have to really strike out on another location first.

Absolutely beautiful place with stunning scenery; the apartment (which was bigger than my flat!) was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. Brilliant place, I'd highly recommend a visit!

I wanted their pork-chop and was told they were out of them as well as T-bone steaks. So fish and chips it was. Breakfast was fine. I had the Scottish breakfast, wife selected from the continental buffet. We did have to ask twice for bread. Breakfast second morning was also ok, however wife did see ants on one of the buffet tables and the coffee had the consistency of having sat in the pot overnight. When asked for a new cup, they offered hot water to dilute what I had. The room was fine, large enough for us. Only down side was the worn carpet. I can live with that. I'm general, the place has, based on looks and atmosphere, great potential. Unfortunately it looks tired. Staff was mostly young and with the exception of the desk clerk, didn't deal with issues well.

Wanted to see the heart of the country and Stirling. SO glad I did. Got a fantastic rate on this hotel and it looked gorgeous so I thought Id give it a go. I was not at all disappointed. The location as mentioned was key. It is literally right there. Walk to everything you'd want within minutes. To top it off they had a great restaurant and bar in the lobby. The room was huge and the bathroom spectacular with very modern amenities, a giant glass shower and spa tub. The people were super welcoming and accommodating. I'd absolutely recommend a stay here as it simply could not have been any better.

They have spent a lot of money on the refurbishment and it shows, the decor is beautiful and perfect for weddings etc. I don't feel I could do it justice in this review!we were shown to a table and then forgotten about for a good 25 mins which wasn't a great start as I had to chase someone down for menus etc, after that service was ok. Girl was lovely but we kept having to grab her attention for things. We had the light lunch menu which has sandwiches, burger, fish and chips etc as well as afternoon tea. I opted for the chicken ceaser salad which was lovely but way overpriced at £12 for the tiny portion size. The dinner (I had the duck) was delicious and breakfast was great (great breakfast staff, as well...can't remember the woman's name who served it and helped check us out but very wonderful to talk with and provided some great tips). If I had to give an area of improvement, it might be just a better way to get in touch with someone in the main reception area when checking in or looking for something (drink, hairdryer, etc) as the staff is usually multi-tasking and not always in the immediate vicinity downstairs. We were told to holler if we needed anything, so maybe our fault, but didn't want to shout out for help while the staff was busy doing something else. I'll be honest, I was puzzled by the location of this boutique hotel and wine bar. Having lived in…read moreStirling for five and a bit years, I knew that Friars Street was the street which students ascended/descended to reach either the club on the street at the bottom or the club at the street at the top. After all, I was a Stirling student for four years - a reasonably well-behaved one! - and had seen firsthand the havoc that takes over Friars street in the wee hours. So, I was a little perplexed that they'd picked such a central location for the hotel, all things considered. And, not long after Friars Wynd had opened its doors, there was a deadly attack on the street. Jeez. Forgetting the location, Friars Wynd is completely different from its much-loved predecessor, The Junk Rooms. And they have done such a good job of making the place look so fresh and bright. There's a lovely bar in the corner and ample room for seating, and a selection of fresh cakes displayed by the window. You can tell instantly that Friars Wynd is worthy of the 'Boutique hotel' title because it feels so luxurious from the moment you step inside. And if the rooms are adequately soundproofed then I'm sure a night's stay would be a blissful one. I've had both lunch and drinks at Friars Wynd and I was impressed by both. The owner is a really lovely, passionate lady who, on both my visits, welcomed me and even remembered me the second time. Lunch was delicious and it was just the spot for the kind of evening drink we were after. My only comment would be that some background music would really do good in creating even more of an atmosphere, especially in the evenings. I do know that the owner is looking to branch out to live music and jazz would be just perfect for Friars Wynd! I do hope Friars Wynd grows, because they've got just the right attitude for a new business; in aiming to impress absolutely everyone that comes through their doors.
