I really like the Hideaway Pub. Their food is usually very good. Excellent fish fry and sandwiches. But today I was very disappointed with some of my food. I ordered the boneless chicken wings for the first time, and a Philly cheesesteak sandwich. They were ready for pick up when I arrived at the allotted time. The sandwich was very good. Upon opening the food box of wings, I could tell immediately from the dark brown color that they were overcooked. The breading was overly thick, hard and crunchy, and the meat inside was dry. I ordered the twelve pieces. The order was smaller than expected. Two of them had a piece of meat inside smaller than a marble. Two had meat pieces about the size of a chicken nugget. The rest were various sized pieces in between those sizes. My wife picked up the order for me. I am home bound and wasn't able to return them, which I surely would have if I were able to. I won't order them again. I wish I had taken a picture, but I didn't. My bad. I will order other items from them, but not the boneless chicken bits. read more

I've been coming to Hideaway for years. Always had a great experience; however, the breaded mushrooms were not what they were a few months ago. I ordered the Cajan pasta with the chicken. (paper menu listed as Cajan & website menu has it as Asian style noodles). Seriously, I had to look for the chicken. It was cut in such tiny strips I had to dig through the pasta to find it. This did not remotely taste like a Cajan or Asian dish. it was so bland that a two year child could eat. To spice it up the cook gave me hot sauce. How insulting!!!! Arrived at 3pm on Wednesday. Able to get seats at bar right away. Getting served was another thing. Bartender walked by us several times without acknowledging us. I have worked in restaurants. If she was too busy to actually serve us, she could have said "be with you in a minute". Ate at a table. Food was not good. Pepperoni pizza with raw chopped onions thrown on top of cooked pizza. Great local bar. Ordered fried chicken and chicken soup. Chicken was hot crispy and very tasty. The waitress was supper nice although she forgot my dates drink and and i didn't receive my chicken soup until i had finished my chicken dinner and told her i never got the soup. We were in town and doing some business and met a local couple to have dinner and enjoy each other's company. We had heard of the Friday fish specials and thought we could try it. Both of the couples decided to try the fisherman's platter of walleye, bluegill, and perch all deep fried lightly, and served with tater tots and coleslaw and a slice of marble bread. The fish was delivered fairly hot and a huge portion of the fish variety. Some items were tasting a bit fishy, in my opinion, and needed the lemon slice to temper that strong fish flavor and all items seemed to be fired in the same oil and thus probably had some overcoming on a piece or two. The coleslaw was just average. Service was paced well and she came back to make sure we had all that we needed to eat. The portion was big enough for two, but had a sharing charge if the diners desired a sharing plate. In addition, there was an up charge if not paying cash, or if you desire a discount for cash. this is Wisconsin Pub food and beer that you will want to go to after a round of golf or on a Saturday afternoon when the weather permits. There is ample outside seating when the sun is out and the temp is above 40F and plenty of seating inside when it is stupid cold! The food is great - especially the wings and cheese curds. The beers were good and the had German, Czech, and Irish beverages - for the latter, their Guiness was fresh and was the right temp. The burgers are good and huge and they accommodated my "extra crispy" fry request with out a blink. I work in Franklin a bit and in the 8-9 times I have been here, the staff was great , the restrooms clean, and I felt I got value for the quality/amount of food I had. read more

As I've done before, I decided to checkout a new-to-me local place for dinner close to Franklin Field before a Milwaukee Milkmen game (you need to check them out if you haven't yet). I had The Hideaway bookmarked for their wings, so this time it was an easy choice. I got an order of 10 bone-in wings with jerk sauce and a full rack of sweet BBQ baby back ribs with tater tots for the side. Given the high price of wings nowadays, I thought their 10 piece order for less than $15 was a decent price, especially considering a few of the wings were massive. I liked that the wings weren't overly saucy (I prefer rub over sauce), but still had plenty on there to enjoy. Their jerk sauce definitely has some heat to it, which was great. Overall, this was a good choice as an appetizer and worth my time bookmarking. The ribs were fall off the bone quality and the sweet BBQ sauce had a slightly smokiness to it that I enjoyed. I kind of regretted getting saucy ribs after also ordering saucy wings cause it was too much of a similar thing, but that's no fault of the ribs, only of me. I'd gladly order these again, just not paired with wings. The tater tots were a fantastic choice; nice and crispy until the very last one. The service was attentive and the food came out much quicker than I anticipated. It would have been nice to have the wings come out before the ribs instead of at the same time so the ribs didn't start to get cold and I wasn't a fan of a small surcharge being added to my bill for paying with a credit card instead of cash, but those were minor issues not worth getting angry over. read more

Never again! I heard another new owner bought the Hideaway. So we went to give it another try. Big Fail! They brought the popcorn back. Now it's self serve and it was stale! You can totally tell it was never changed out from the night before. [[HIGHLIGHT]]One of the best parts of the hideaway is when you open the door and constantly smell fresh popcorn.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They moved the gambling machines in the middle of the dining area directly and back of the bar so you have half seating and you get to watch people play on the machines.. what a horrible set up that is.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Then the new owner came out and she was wearing gym attire and didn't associate with any of her customers but right by the door there's a plaque on her accomplishments. Well when you have a new business, it's important to engage with your customers and she just look like she got out of a yoga class. If that was one of my employees I would've told them to go home and change the craft beers that we ordered were lukewarm so after that, we switched to bottled beers cause at least we knew that was gonna be cold. Big parking lot, was seated right away, was definitely given looks for dressing up and not being a regular but I bought a pull tab and minded my own business and had a great dinner. Good service, not too loud, there were kids running around, and lots of TVs / bar space, but we got a 2 top / high top table by the window. Drink wise - some basic beers on tap and your choice of red or white for wine but full bar if you want a cocktail. Tuesday has a deal for 1 app and 2 entrees for a flat price, and there are soo many good options! We got the mozzarella sticks that are wonton wrapped and deep fried and served with dipping sauce. Super cheesy, but a little bland. I got the salmon, tots (your choice of potato) and veggies (tasted like they were cooked in LOTS of butter). Overall a good char on salmon and cooked well, but my boyfriends ribs stole the show. Fell right off the bone, tons of meat, choice of BBQ sauce (got spicy) and he chose the fries which were great. For some reason I have been craving baked French onion soup for like a year now but I didn't really know where a good one was so it's just been sitting in my mind on the back burner. As I was looking at my bookmarks for lunch today I saw a couple pictures of the French baked onion soup from this place that looked pretty good so my crave was getting fixed today. The place is your typical bar and restaurant with a bar area and a dining area. I sat at the bar for a good 10 minutes watching people behind the bar pass by and not even take my drink or ask if I was helped yet so 1 star was taken away. I finally had a server ask if anyone took my drink order yet, she was behind the bar the whole time that I waited so I said with a very disappointing voice NOPE and she takes my drink order and gives me a menu. I ordered a spicy Bloody Mary and the baked French onion. The Bloody Mary was super average with a good pickle spear and two olives and it was spicy. The baked French onion soup looked amazing, my first thought with the first bite was wow this has good flavor and it's very cheesy with a great amount of melted cheese almost to the end of the soup. I got to hand it to them that they do serve a good baked French onion soup, I'm so glad that my crave wasn't wasted on a bad one. My crave for baked French onion soup was totally filled today and if the service was a little better they could have had 4 stars. Came here for a fish fry. Fish had zero seasoning and was over cooked. It was so dry. Waitress was net attentive as we sat we empty drink glasses. The place had about 10 tables occupied and we were told the food would be slow coming out because they were so busy but a majority of the 10 tables already had their food. Was not a great experience as the wife and I both send our food back. The salt and pepper on the fish is what I added to try and get 1 piece down. I remember when the street used to be lined with cars and the hall was full of people. This place has really gone downhill since the owners change. We won't be coming back. They have a specific menu to choose from but it has a lot of options. I have also been told there baked French onion soup is delicious and being such a fan of it I definitely had to order some. It was delicious! For dinner we decided to get the special and ordered deep fried pickle fries, teriyaki chicken bowl and grilled salmon dinner. Ok I've never had deep fried pickles and they were amazing! I loved my salmon and got it with no starch extra veggies. My boyfriend got the teriyaki chicken bowl and enjoyed it! Really enjoyed the food, drinks, and service here! It was so nice being able to sit outside and be secluded. They had Leinenkugel Pumpkin beer which tasted SO good! The service was wonderful! This was our second visit to the Hideaway. We were looking for a good fish fry and unfortunately this place doesn't have it. The atmosphere was blah and the parking lot was half empty - it was 6pm on a Friday night- all of this in itself should have been enough of an indicator. The four of us all order variations of there fish fry: 1 baked cod, 1 combo (bluegill, walleye, and perch), and 2 traditional fried cod plates. The potato pancakes were nearly as hard as a hockey puck and the baked cod had the appearance that it sat under a heat lamp for an extended period of time. Additionally the fried fish was mostly dry and just overall uninviting. Adding to the disappointment was the fact that the average price of each plate was about $19.50. With gratuity for the four of us, the bill was $104. We gave this place 2 attempts and both times we were disappointed. read more

Solid place, it's a pub but don't let that fool you! The food is pretty darn good. I'd like to try the fish fry sometime. I'm a lover of Baked French Onion soup and it was very good here, but one issue: they did not take out the bay leaves. I let the server know and her response was, the cook leaves them in on purpose, "for flavor". You have got to be kidding me. One should really never bury inedible things inside of edible things. Someone needs to talk some sense into that individual. The Ahi Tuna salad is such a shock to be in a bar/pub and see something like this, first off. Secondly, it's really darn good!!! Driving North towards Milwaukee and feeling the pangs of hunger. I yelped for food nearby and discovered this local gem! I grabbed a bar stool and looked around at all of the Green Bay Packers signage and realized as a Seahawk, I was behind enemy lines! While opting to stay incognito and appreciate the vibes, I also enjoyed munching on the buttered popcorn that was immediately placed in front of me. That by the way should have paired well with a local brew however, I behaved and ordered ice tea with a generous slice of lemon. The pub type menu offered some delicious sounding food. I zeroed in on the ribs & fried chicken combo platter or pizza maybe the burgers! I opted for the steak salad and I certainly don't regret it! Large chunks of bleu cheese swimming in thick rivers of dressing, tender morsels of seasoned beef cooked medium, fresh greens, diced tomatoes and cucumbers. Yum. This presentation was more than a generous portion, it was humongous! Now I am thinking about a return trip back to the Hideaway tonight for dinner as that rib/chicken combo is still in my head! Love this place. Laid back, casual and friendly atmosphere- with all the delicious popcorn you can eat. Everything from the Mozzarella Logs (today they were made with Provolone and even better), to the wings, to the French Onion Soup - is on point. Today my lunch mate had a cheeseburger and I had a blackened, grilled chicken sandwich. The burger was delicious, juicy and cooked perfectly.
