I booked a massage at Hidden Spa Wellness Center while visiting San Diego with my daughter for her 18th birthday and wow, just wow! I've had a lot of massages over the years, and this was easily one of the top three I've ever experienced! Marian was absolutely amazing. She worked through all the tension in my upper back and neck with the perfect balance of pressure, effective but never painful, while still keeping the entire experience incredibly relaxing. What really stood out to me was how thorough she was. She didn't just focus on one area; she spent meaningful time on my arms, legs, hands, and feet, which often get overlooked. The hot stones on my back felt incredible, and I loved the added touches like the scalp treatment and facial massage, details that truly elevated the whole experience. It honestly felt like she intuitively knew exactly what my body needed. Another thing I really appreciated: she used the full 60 minutes. No rushing, no cutting corners, just a complete, unhurried experience from start to finish. At $110, I found it to be very reasonably priced, especially given how above-and-beyond the service was. The new owner of the spa Hulu had me there for HOURS! I came in for a free group meditation I saw advertised online & was greeted with free food, drinks, and so many welcoming faces. I spoke with Hulu about my personal health journey, and he invited me to come in the next day for a complimentary healing session using acoustic therapy. I wasn't really sure what to expect, but oh boy, it was a whole body experience I felt completely relaxed and immersed into an acoustic cocoon... we targeted specific parts of my body where I was having issues & I can already feel the difference. I went for a massage because I couldn't turn my head to the right for a couple of weeks, and was so moved by the experience. It wasn't just a massage. It was a full sensory experience. Perfect music, perfect pressure intensity, comfortable space and table, friendly therapist, lovely space. I'm extremely picky about massages and am generally disappointed in San Diego. I see a masterful Aztec therapist when I am in Mexico and have found that most therapists locally don't have the same deep awareness and intuition, and simply do their routine without reading what my body needs. I highly recommend this place! I visited Hidden Spa on my birthday and was well taken care of. I came here for a spa massage and facial.  The new owner did my massage and also threw in some crystal therapy for my birthday. He was attentive to what I was looking for and worked on areas where I felt the most stress. I felt comfortable and relaxed. Then, I went to another room for my facial and the esthetian was so kind. Again, I felt comfortable and at peace. My face felt wonderful, my body was relaxed, I felt rejuvenated after my services! At the end of my facial, I changed and went to another room where my cider and piece of chocolate cake was waiting for me. It was super cute! They even had a cute little sign that said "Happy Birthday." Overall, I really loved my time at Hidden Spa. The Hidden Spa has gone downhill..... This review HAS NOTHING to do with our massage therapists, as they were great! The front end of the business was terrible. We arrived 10 minutes early to check-in, have a seat and fill out any paper work and enjoy the Dessert and Cider. Nobody was at the front, so I rang the bell as the note on the counter stated, no one ever came to assist us. After 5 minutes, one of our therapists showed up to work and asked if we had been helped to which we stated no. He then set all his things down to help get us checked in. He sat us in the waiting area and offered tea and water and gave us the paperwork. A few minutes later, a woman arrived to work the front. She set her belongings down, collected the trash bags and started cleaning. Another female employee came up to her from a side room and they started to talk about our other therapists calling in sick 4 hours prior and asked if a replacement was contacted for us yet, she wasn't aware of the sick call. They then had a very tense conversation about owner/coworker/workplace drama and being unhappy/finding a new job. Airing Dirty Laundry about the way the business is running and throwing off a negative vibe..... my anxiety was already up ....wondering if we were going to even get a massage after driving 40 minutes. Another therapist finished her massage and they asked her to fill in for the lady that called in sick. She said yes and didn't seem to mind. Part of the couples massage package includes the Host serving Sparkling Cider and a Gourmet Dessert. That DIDN'T happen. The host didn't acknowledge us until it was time to pay and leave. We went back to have our 90 min Couples massage (20 minutes) after the scheduled. The massage package includes Massage, Foot Scrub and Hot Stones........ We DID NOT receive the foot scrub OR the hot stone treatment. The Vibe was way off and more than half the service was skipped over. The massages and both therapists were great so that was a positive. The room did not have a dimmer-switch or blackout curtains so the room was very bright. In our past visits, in other rooms, there were both features for a more relaxing experience. I can say for $360 (Massage Package and tips) and not receiving The Cider, Dessert, or Starting on time ....then listening to the negativity, and missing out on 2 of the 3 services, we won't be able to recommend the Hidden Spa anymore to friends or return. Really a shame too, because we've always came back to Hidden Spa after trying other Places. read more

I have been to The Hidden Spa dozens of times over the past 6 years; and I have overall had a very positive experience. It's got a cozy, intimate feel, and reasonable prices, and more little massage rooms than you'd expect. It's $70 for a 60-minute Swedish massage or facial, or you can get a package of 6 for $390 ($65 each); not bad. This was my first massage here, or anywhere else, since the start of the pandemic 7 months ago, and it was a very positive experience. The receptionist was friendly, the place was very clean, and I had a good massage. It is true that there is unfortunately some turnover of massage therapists, which is probably true at many spas, and my favorite therapists (Ingrid, Meli, Gwen, Antoinette and Courtney) are no longer there. It looks like the massage therapists currently available are Jennifer, Marian and Dalton. Jennifer was my therapist this week, and she was very sweet, accommodating, and gave a good massage. I also see good recent reviews about Dalton, too. Definitely worth a try if you're ready to get a massage. read more

I haven't had many massages, but my deep tissue massage with Bryon was the best massage I've ever had. Sometimes even with deep tissue massages I'm wanting more pressure, but this was not the case with Bryon! I asked for more pressure and he delivered, I also really appreciate the thorough attention to my problem areas. Pretty disappointing considering how this place used to operate. I had a facial. The work was nice and the woman working on me was sweet, but the appointment started 20 minutes late (but I did get my full 60 minutes in). I was not told until my therapist informed me there had been a scheduling issue, but I wish the person at the front desk had just told me this instead of leaving me in the dark and wandering silently back and forth looking increasingly worried that I was about to ask for a refund for not respecting my time. Suggestions: 1. Request that guests arrive at least 10 minutes early to their appointment to get any paperwork done ahead of time. I do this automatically, but lots of people think they are supposed to swing in the front door at their appointment time or five minutes late. That could lead to situations like mine where I am waiting almost half of my allotted appointment time until I am brought into the room. 2. Confirm appointments (time and date, name of therapist, reminder of early arrival) via email/ text with customers. 3. Some people are very shy (not me). The front desk person is your face. Ensure that for every person they offer water or tea, show them where the bathroom is, and generally be friendly, offering to answer questions about any products in the store. Mistakes happen, and is something runs long you can always gain favor by offering complimentary drinks or snacks. 4. Consult with customers once in the room of the specifics they have specified in their charts and then do the appropriate work. 5. Serve sparkling cider as an alternative option to alcohol- not the assumed option. If that is too pricey, don't offer it at all. The focus should be on the therapies, not the food and drink. I really do hope that is helpful. This is coming from someone who gets massages and facials maybe every other month. read more

Top 10 reasons I will NEVER RETURN TO THIS PLACE (Oh yea, there are many more): 10. For starters, misleading name. It is in no way, shape or form, "hidden". When I think of a "hidden spa" I think of trees, and water and a location that feels like you are in another world... not a building on a busy street next to a homeless camp parking lot. 9. All their tea choices were lame. It was the cheapest, bag tea, you could find. 8. The "waiting room" seemed dirty. They have seats in the same area as a diffuser so it was blowing right in my face. It was yukky. 7. There was a huge spider web spanning across the mirror in the very dark bathroom. Clean much? 6. They serve "dessert" after the massage for spa parties, which is what my friends got since we were celebrating my birthday. The dessert was like 2-day old grocery store cake. Ew. Why are they focusing on the dessert portion of the treatment? I have never been to a legit spa that serves cake. Fruit, yes, hot tea, yes. Cake, no. 5. The massage tables were so hard that after my massage, my body ached from the surface. My table also felt like it was going to collapse because it kept moving when I moved. 4. My massage was terrible. "Light to medium" pressure was what I was signed up for and I got the equivalent of a two-year-old massaging my back. There was literally zero pressure. She spent time on the back sides of my knees. Yes, you read that right. Ummmmm not effective. 3. Have you ever had a facial? What I got was a woman, UNMASKED, in my face (so much so I could smell her smoky, nasty breath) rubbing lotion on my face and taking lotion off my face. That's it. It was completely inappropriate for her to be unmasked, especially with the surge of COVID going on, and she clearly didn't know what she was doing. And she KNOWINGLY, potentially exposed me to COVID. 2. My friend, who booked the appointment (a spa party with we three girls) MONTHS IN ADVANCE, was not confirmed until 10 MINUTES PRIOR. When my friend asked why, they claimed they had the wrong number....so um, how did they get the right number 10 minutes before? 1. We were told to fill out these forms WITH DRY ERASE MARKERS to tell if we had anything that could impede our massages. It also asked where they "therapist" should focus their attention and if we wanted to "add on" any services, i.e. deep tissue massage, etc. We all completed that form. Apparently nobody read it. When they brought us to the room, the one "therapist" (not really a therapist) launched into a 5 minute speech about how only one of us could get the deep tissue massage because they were under staffed (um, we booked the appointment months before) so why would they not staff up. They sure took the $600 that my friends paid, plus tip..... Ok, I feel compelled to give a few more reasons: 1a. After my friend posted a terrible review (See review from Karen G.) the owner messaged her to say that she took over the spa ONE DAY AFTER OUR VISIT. Ummmmm I am gonna call BS. 1b. I have been to enough spas to know that the employees here are NOT therapists. Not sure what their credentials are but I can tell you they have no idea how the muscles of the body are positioned, nor do they know how to work those muscles so that their clients get some relief and relaxation. BUYER BEWARE. This place sucks! Stop focusing on dessert, clean more often and hire some real therapists, or at least get these people some training, and charge less. Your services are in no way worth what you are charging. read more

Came here on a Saturday afternoon for the Spa Facial. Parking here is a pain. They don't have their own lot. (There is a lot next store but you have to pay.) I got lucky a few blocks down, but build in time to find parking so you don't stress out before your spa day! Service was friendly, but a bit frazzled since they were so busy that day. They forgot my dessert and drink and I was ushered into a therapy room. They brought me back 15 minutes after the start of my original appointment and didn't apologize. I had never had a spa facial before, so I didn't know if I should disrobe or not. Answer: yes, disrobe to your comfort level. Actual facial was relaxing. Foot and hand scrub was uncomfortable but effective. Aromatherapy was lovely. I enjoyed the shoulder and neck massage that came with it. When I paid I asked for my belated treats. She brought over a little lemon bar square...it looked sad all alone on the plate, but was yummy. I was brought a San pelligrino (but they never actually asked what I wanted). Their hot water was not hot, so my idea of having hot tea instead of the soda they gave me was thwarted. Ambiance: cute vibe with low lighting. But why oh why would people bring hound kids to a spa??! I heard a crying kid through part of my facial...not exactly relaxing. All in all: this place is far from where I live, so I probably won't be back. read more

So we thought we'd give this place a try since it had a lot of reviews. We booked a 90 minute massage plus a 30 minute facial. The curb appeal was lined with smells of urine, trash and homeless. The parking is extremely difficult to find and it's expensive. The lobby was the most unwelcoming. There were dirty upholstered seats, lights weren't turned on, and we were handed dirty, plastic erasable tablets for check in. At this point we were already very uncomfortable with the services that awaited us. Sure enough, the owner or the manager went to the back to get us our therapists and seemed to have a tussle with one of the employees as he was walking towards us. We first thought it was a disgruntled customer as she was trying to physically intercept him down the hallway from speaking to us. The gentleman had his arm in a elbow sling brace and introduced himself as a our massage therapist. He also announced that he can't do deep tissue because of his injury. WHO GIVES A MASSAGE WITH ONE ARM???? Not to mention, I specifically asked to book a female therapist for my husband. This place is dirty, unprofessional, weird vibes and just terrible. This was a complete waste of money.. and it wasn't cheap. We arrived and it took about 15 minutes to get us to the room, so it was MAYBE a 40 min "massage", but we'll get to that later. First impression was very poor, white cloth chairs were visibly dirty, almost brown. There was a weird, musty smell throughout the whole establishment as well. Once in the room, the blankets didn't smell any better. They don't do deep tissue so our massages were basically them just slathering oil on us with a few awkward elbows. The dessert they give you is maybe a centimeter wide chocolate cake that they probably got from like a Walmart or something. Paid $240 for such an underwhelming experience, NEVER AGAIN. This place really went downhill when it changed hands. The Hidden Spa used to be a pretty nice spa. Upscale for OB. I went to get a massage last week and I was shocked when I walked in. The lobby is covered with ads for various treatments of the "get skinny quick" variety. Super tacky. The owner was not wearing a mask when I walked in but went to get one. I was given a dry erase chart to write my information on. It was dirty and still had someone else's writing on it. The pens were not sanitized. I started to get a bad feeling. The massage therapist came out not wearing a mask. I was uncomfortable and hung back. She promised to go get one while I got undressed. The massage was just average. The worst expirience you could ever get. 1st - massage is way bigger word for what you get. Someone will touch you couple of times and press with elbows. That is about it. The masseuse breathes heavily next to your face, hard to relax like that. 2nd - do not wear nice clothes and don't plan to go anywhere after that. I was covered fully in oil, they do not provide anything to take this oil of you, and stains from oil are not removable by loundry. Also, they will cover your hair in oil and leave you like a mess. 3rd - restroom is dirty, when you tell that there is no paper towels left, nobody is going to refill it.
