Chickpea pita with falafel.
Patti R.

I love love love this place! I've been here five times and this review is for the last four times. It is across the street from the nail salon that I go to in Madison and I've come here to have a quick lunch. I have ordered the chickpea salad pita, the chicken Parm sandwich (plant based, folks) the hummus and pita with falafel and the garbanzo bowl and flat breads. My favorites are the hummus and pita with falafel as well as the chicken Parm sandwich. The food here is sooo good. The place is very clean and the service has always been great. You order and they bring you the food. They have always been pleasant. It is a cute little place. I highly recommend it!

Kickin' Not Chicken

We ordered takeout. I had the sweet potato fries and a spicy not chicken sandwich. The texture of The not chicken was 10/10. The fries were good. I didn't give five stars because the spice was too spicy for me. And I love spice. I will go again and maybe order some sauce to cool things down a bit or order something else but I WILL BE BACK! After eating the "Kickin'-not-Chicken " and the fries my tummy felt good. The spiciness of the not chicken was not a gastric problem.

Mushroom Chickpea Flatbread

10/10 food and service. Food: We ordered - A BALT with side of smash sprouts - A BALT with fries - A mushroom chickpea flatbread - A Fonzi bowl The BALTs were fresh, with buns toasted to perfection. The fries weren't greasy and just the right amount of crispy. The flatbread and bowl were fresh and flavorful. I also had a mango iced tea. I'm usually not big on iced tea but loved this one. If you like lightly sweetened drinks, I recommend it. It had such a light refreshing mango flavor! Decor: Cute diner style. Service: The waitress was so sweet and helpful in giving recommendations.

Nestled in Madison, The Hidden Chickpea proved to be a charming escape on a rainy day. The cozy, modern, green-inspired ambiance, accompanied by fun music, set the perfect tone. Burger - MAD Burger ($14) had an explosion of flavors and textures! The clever use of two smashed Beyond Burger patties brought a unique twist to vegan burgers that I hadn't experienced before. The grilled marks on the bun added a delightful touch. The generous portion of tasty onion relish complemented the patties perfectly, and the melty vegan provolone was a delightful surprise. Kudos to The Hidden Chickpea for their creativity in crafting such an exceptional burger. Fries - The hand-cut fries are a delicious accompaniment, delivering a satisfying crunch and a piping hot serving, though slightly over-salted. Dessert - Gluten-free Chocolate Chip Cookie ($3.50): After a scrumptious meal, I couldn't resist trying their gluten-free chocolate chip cookie. Although it was slightly gritty in texture, it didn't deter my enjoyment of its rich flavor. Its ample size made it a delightful treat to end the meal with. The service at The Hidden Chickpea was equally commendable. Griffin, impressed me with his kindness, attentiveness, and patience, enhancing the overall dining experience. For some reason on this day I was nervous about going out to eat by myself. I almost drove away when I got there, but I'm so glad I went in. The Hidden Chickpea proved to be a gem in the Madison area, offering an inviting atmosphere, creative dishes, and wonderful service. I look forward to returning and exploring more of their delectable offerings on the menu.

The Hidden Chickpea was on my places to visit list for a bit, and I finally decided to try it out with a friend. They have a lot of gluten-free options among their vegan selections, so I was very excited to try out their food. We arrived and had the option to order via tablet or with the person at the counter, I thought the prices were reasonable. First, the service was excellent throughout our visit and the restaurant was very clean and organized, they've utilized the space well. The worker recommended the chickpea and fig flat to me, which sounded pretty good. My friend selected the Fonzi bowl and I ordered salt and rosemary fries to split. Some of the fries were a bit undercooked, which gave them an unpleasant texture. The chickpea flat I ordered didn't look super appetizing and the bowl looked a bit better, but appearances aren't always everything. We dug in and found that the food was rather bland. My flat was a pile of chickpeas and mush, which had no flavor at all to help offset the texture. I will say I enjoyed the vegan cheese, but there definitely needs to be more of it. There wasn't enough compote or salad to help the ratio of chickpeas. I'm glad I finally tried it, but I think I'll plant myself somewhere else for the next vegan meal.

Smashed Sprouts (nice)
Jaishree S.

I just came here this evening! The food was lovely! For me and my friend, I got two chickpea flats, Brussels sprouts, and a kale rice bowl. The chickpea flats were such a creative idea. The chickpeas were slightly mashed and formed the foundation for lots of sauces. So good!! I love chickpeas and was glad there wasn't bread or grains involved (it was a nice change). I enjoyed the Mushroom Parmesan Roasted Chickpea slightly more than the Parmesan Roasted Chickpea. For the restaurant, I'd suggest adding some red onions for crunch/flavor and some lemon wedges to the chickpea flats. The Brussels sprouts were good; one was a little undercooked though. Again, for the restaurant, I'd recommend cutting them in half and frying rather than boiling them (which I suspect is what they did to make them soft). I thought "The Bowl" would have more kale; it was mostly rice, so I was a little misled haha Next time, I'll likely get the Kale Salad. I came hungry but went home with leftovers. I really enjoyed everything. On Saturdays, they close at 7 pm. I arrived at around 6:20 pm and left at 7:25 pm. No one rushed me out. The ambiance is chill and cute. It was like sitting in an old-timey mobile diner but with narrow tables (cute!). There are also outlets in the booth walls. The bathroom was clean as well.

Fonzi Bowl
Robert N.

I had a Fonzi Bowl and liked it a lot. People are nice. Place is bright and inviting. Might try to eat in next time and actually try something with chickpeas.

Philly Cheesesteak on top and fig jam flat on the bottom (added, vegan bacon and fried oyster mushrooms to the flat).

A little shop in Summit serving up delicious Indian fusion…read more Apps: The cauliflower koliwada was ok, a spicy carrot mash with peanut and chili crumble; it cooled too quickly, I think and that made it soggy instead of crunchy. Flavor bomb burrata was amazing - on top of a naan, tomatoes and green garlic chimichurri with a fresh burrata and what was like a very sweet spicy honey on top - delicious. Sadly they were out of the truffle chicken masala. We opted for the butter chicken - also delicious and rich. Palak paneer - always nice to see the spinach version. Very good. Both were great with the garlic and butter naans... sopped up with the naan or rice, delicious. The 'Rarha' Lamb Chops were ok, overcooked until the bone crumbled so a bit hard to pick up, cutting it was a bit tough, and the mustard-tumeric potatoes were very good but heavy. BYOB. Menu completely online and somewhat hard to see -- bring a big phone. Street or muni lot parking. Servers were pleasant but often busy cleaning up - a bit of dropping things all night - customers knocked over their lights, dishes fell, glasses broke - I felt like it was a Jewish wedding with all the wares falling on the floor mid-way through dinner. Portions are solid and they also gave to-go bags for the leftover naan and boxes for the leftover dishes.

We stopped by Four Monkeys on a busy Friday night, and the place was packed, always a promising sign. Even with the crowd, parking wasn't an issue at all; Lot 3 is right nearby and there's plenty of street parking, which made getting in and out painless. Inside, the restaurant is on the smaller side, but they've managed to fit in a surprising number of tables without making it feel cramped. The lighting is dim and moody in a way that works well for the space, and the subtle monkey-themed decor is genuinely charming- playful but tasteful. Menus are all via QR code, and even the cutlery feels upgraded and fancy, adding a nice touch. Service was a highlight. The staff is friendly, helpful, and refreshingly honest as they guided us through the menu, prevented us from over-ordering, and offered thoughtful recommendations. For water, they give you options: tap, sparkling, or still. What we ordered: * Pili Mirch Paneer Tikka (appetizer) * Bandar Butter Chicken * Homestyle Bhuna Chicken * Garlic Naan (pro tip: the naans are huge, one is easily enough for two people) The paneer app was really solid, think paneer tikka with a definite kick, paired with some tasty dipping sauce, chutney, and even grilled pineapple. A fun combo and definitely one of the stronger dishes. The mains, though, both the butter chicken and homestyle bhuna chicken, leaned very much on the milder side. The sauces were more liquidy than expected, and they felt geared toward diners who prefer Indian food without the heat. With slightly less gravy and a bit more spice, both dishes could've been standouts. The garlic naan was fine, though more firm than the soft, melt-in-your-mouth style I usually prefer. Overall, I'd say Four Monkeys is a good try and a nice addition to Summit, but probably not my go-to Indian spot for the food alone. That said, the ambiance is great, the staff is wonderful, and it's worth a visit, especially if you're into milder Indian flavors or want a cozy, lively night out.
