Reserved a Full-Size car from November 21 thru November 24. Took a Lyft from the car repair shop to Hertz 1401 w 22nd Street Oakbrook IL. Arrived at scheduled time of 10:30 am to find out my vehicle class was not available. Was offered a downgrade for the same price of a ugly little Kia Sol Subcompact. I was not happy however they did not care! I called around and made reservations with a different car company. had to take another Lyft ride out of there to retrieve what I could not get from Hertz. After my experience with this Hertz and its absolutely exemplary attendant, I just want everyone to consider renting cars instead of owning them. Do you really need to own an SUv or might it be better to just rent one occasionally? How about shopping errands? Maybe schedule once a month and rent a car-- save the day to day expenses? Really rude customer service over the phone. I don't appreciate being hung up on in the middle of a sentence. I've gone to pick up a car before and you have to search far and wide to find someone who works here. Once you find a worker, they are helpful but I find this ridiculous. This place isn't closed but you should be able to give No Stars! The customer service from Syed was an absolute NIGHTMARE. I called on the 6th and spoke to Spencer letting him know that I would be in Friday morning to pick the rental up. Friday morning take an uber there and no one is inside. The hotel workers are saying the people aren't coming back. So im staying outside their door for 20 minutes. There's no note explaining why someone isn't there. After waiting Syed walks in and I ask what is taking so long. Instead of apologizing he got rude. I asked for his name and corporate number. The argument escalated and asked for someone else to help me and he says there is no one. Them walks in another employee, Josh. Who takes over the transaction and gets me on my way. Hertz shouldn't have rude employees. If you don't want to work with customers get another job. read more

Booked through 3rd party Priceline, paid in advance, and when I showed up to pick up the vehicle I was informed it was closed a week after my booking. Neither Hertz nor Priceline contacted me to change locations, offer to refund me, or just inform me that the location has closed. Needless to say they then did not have my car available at any other location and simply believe that an apology would suffice. Also do not plan on speaking to or with anyone in the US. read more

Based on name recognition, I imagined that Hertz was one of the top rental car companies. Now I wonder if they're even 2nd tier.... I wanted to rent a car using my credit card rewards points, and Hertz was the only company they offered. I requested the car for 12 noon, and arrived at 12:12pm - should be no problem right? Found a sign on the door saying the staff had stepped out for "25 minutes". About 40 minutes passed, so I called the phone number listed on the sign for "immediate assistance." The employee at another Hertz location apologized and said there's only one guy working there. What the heck is up with that? When the guy did get back, he was very nice and helpful. I had requested a "Toyota Corolla or equivalent," but the only car he had available was a Chevy Impala. He said it was an upgrade, but it was actually terrible. Most uncomfortable driver's seat I've ever sat in! No lower back support, impossible to adjust it comfortably - my back was stiff for two days after that trip. read more

Awful experience! Sent here after accident by other drivers insurance company! Agent renting me the car couldn't stay awake during pick-up, car given to me with a half a tank of gas, reviewed it with sleepy agent who indicted to return with SAME AMOUNT in it! Had car for a little over one day (minor repair at body shop) and put less than 50 miles on it, left at body shop the day after pickup at direction of OakBrook agent, after filling to more than half a tank, confirmed twice via telephone call. Hertz now claiming car was not returned until 2 days after it was left at body shop and had 187 miles on it. They tacked a gas charge of $63.58. What a AWFUL EXPERIENCE!! Going thru their verify group as to gas situation and customer relations trying to resolve this... total over kill trying to hide a very poorly run OakBrook store! Contacting insurance company that sent me to them in AM to review situation! If I could give them 0 stars I would! read more

Very disappointed at this location I do not recommend anyone coming here!!! They gave me one rental car that was wrong and dirty even though they said it was cleaned and lied they were getting returns later that day, then the next day had to pick up correct rental and again said it was cleaned and still not cleaned the second rental. The person who hit my car her insurance was paying for the rental but yet I got charged for it and they still have my $50.00 dollars that I was told I would get a refund back when returned the rental still nothing just more money they took from me. Called headquarters about the rental issues and was told area manager would call me within 48 hours no call. Now I have to go after work today and get this all straightened out cause I am getting all of my Money back one way or another when they no the lady who hit me her insurance was covering for especially since that insurance company made the call for the rental. So I have to call this insurance company as well and get it straightened out. Also if it doesn't get straightened out when go to hertz today I will be calling headquarters again and making sure I get my refund and the stolen charge back. read more

I can't believe this is a business. Insanely long line, woefully incompetent staff, a complete and total joke. Avoid it at all costs. You are better off buying a bicycle, or just giving up entirely. Update 5/4 - I stand behind my original assessment, with one amendment: After a few more interactions the staff does not seem woefully incompetent, they are just given absolutely no chance to serve customers reasonably. Cars were there but "unavailable" due to a variety of random reasons. The car I actually received was smaller than the one I'd reserved, but since it was the only one available after waiting in line for 40 minutes, I took it. It also absolutely reeked of cigarette smoke -- the worst I've ever smelled. And I now smell after riding in it. I'm still dumbfounded by this experience. read more

I've been a long term Hertz renter but my experience with this particular location was horrendous. Honestly, I am surprised that this location is still in operation. It has been nearly a week and I still don't have a rental car. I've had numerous promises from the staff to return my call, telling me things like "We expect a car for you today at 5pm", and each promise was never fulfilled. Today, my travel agent booked a car for me on my behalf with this location and I was given a confirmation number - upon entering their office, I found a guy eating a sandwich and trying to speak with me with food in his mouth. Quickly, he informed me that he had nothing for me; he was not helpful at all and there was no glimmer of customer service (e.g. empathy, attempt to try and find me a vehicle elsewhere, etc.) Avoid this location. read more

Never renting from Hertz again! I needed a car for the last day of my Chicago trip. I booked it several days in advance. I was scheduled to pick up my car at 11:00 a.m. At 10:30 a.m. I get a call that they have no cars available. I ask if they can secure a car for me at another location. They tell me I should call the 800 number. The 800 number was of no use. I kept calling to see if they cold be of any use in helping me find a car. Waste of time. We decided to go to the airport and rent a car there. We went to speak with a representative from Hertz at Midway. We explained the situation and asked for help. He was able to get us a car, but we paid more than our original quote from the oak brook location. They were not even able to honor the price. Worst customer service ever! This Hertz location is staffed by a single employee was unable to honor the pickup service that I had requested via their online reservation system. I ended up contacting the Downers Grove office, but they had no cars available and suggested I contact the Hertz location at O'Hare Airport. I would stay away from Hertz unless you're renting from them at an airport location. read more

Worst experience ever. Reserved a booking online for 1:00 and they didn't have the car available at 1:00. Brianna who's originally from Glendale heights location but is working at oak brook location today said the website doesn't update that fast or some weird excuse. Then she said come back at 4:30 and she "booked me an appointment". I came back at 4:30 and she said she couldn't give me a car because the car she had needed an oil change and she can't rent it out legally. I gave her my number to call if a rental was available sooner so why couldn't she give me a heads up so I didn't just waste 3 hours? When I asked for my reservation number she couldn't pull it up bc "reservation didn't go through". Called customer service to help me book a rental from another location but rep didn't know English. Never use them! Very unreliable and unprofessional. I rented from this location today. I called to arrange rental one day ahead. Asked for toyota camry. Rep said ok but no guarantee. This location was the most convenient Hertz for me. Called about 90 minutes before 11am scheduled pick up to confirm car was ready. Agent Chris said hed need to go pick up car at another location but would be ready at 11. While i was at exercise class and unable to answer agent left me vmail asking if i could drive to lombard. I said no it was out of my way. He said he has to drive and pick it up. Will be there in 15 mins. He arrived in 30 mins. Ended up getting the car at 1150 instead of 11. Rude rep who made excuses and didnt apologize. Highly recommend you avoid this rental location!! read more

Pretty straightforward. I had a rental for $18 plus the $200 deposit. Chris didn't close out my account after I returned it. Got charged an additional $200. Got the money returned. Today, I wake up, and another $200 is being charged. I call Hertz billing department and got such bad attitude from the girl answering calls. I made a promise to myself this morning that I will never ever go to Hertz again. The other comment by Ralph W. is spot on; unreliable and unprofessional. I usually rent with Enterprise, but Hertz had so much a better deal I thought I'd try them this time. I made a reservation with this location online and received an email confirmation. I took the shuttle over from my hotel only to be told that no cars were available. A staff member drove me back to my hotel, as the waiting time on the shuttle was long. Later in the day, he called to say they had a car and he picked me up to get it. They then would not take my card and called me a cab at my expense to get me back to my hotel. At that point in the day, there were no rental car options in reach and I have had to cancel all the plans I had for the weekend. Avoid. read more
