I purchased a pistol on a Thursday on a permit that would expire on Sunday. I was told there was no problem as the background check would take only a day or 2 and I could pick up the gun on Saturday or Monday. After filling out the paperwork I paid for the gun and left. I returned on Monday and was told I couldn't get the gun because the permit had expired on Sunday. When I questioned why this hadn't been completed they started lecturing me on NJ laws. The manager, who told me of a family problem, started shouting at me, became aggressive and threatened to call police and have me escorted out of the store. This is not the type of business I would ever patronize again. read more

I came here for a 2 hour beginner archery class and had a great time. We only spent 30 minutes in a classroom and the rest of the time shooting in a small 10-yard indoor target range. Since the class was very small (only 6 people, 3 of which were kids), we had plenty of time to practice. The instructor, Mitch, was knowledgeable and subtlely funny. I would definitely recommend this class for kids and adults of all ages. read more

I came here for an indoor beginner archery lesson. Classes are reasonably priced at $35 and small enough to get enough time to practice shooting and asking questions. I believe they max out at 15 people. This is a great gift for someone else and is suitable for young ages. There were quite a lot of children in my class that really seemed to enjoy themselves. I really enjoyed my time learning from Mitch. He was knowledgeable in the practical portion of the lesson when we were shooting at indoor targets. The classroom portion could have been a bit more expansive and detailed but it got the job done and we were introduced to the basics of archery. The indoor range is small but allows you to learn in a controlled environment. There are a range of compound bows to choose from and 6 different lanes with targets to be in. Our class took 3 turns on the indoor range to go through the entire class. Overall the class took about 2.5 hours with over an hour to shoot. read more

Today Jim walked me through a semi auto shotgun purchase and his expertise was with more than what you can gather over the Internet. I was literally ready to swipe my card for the easiest sale of the day for $600 and I couldn't even get a hello or a how may I help you. I waited for 18 minutes and not one staff member said a word! It is a great store, but it is not a "Gun Range", -- archery only. You have to take their one-time class for that first for their fee. Mostly knowledgeable, but double check the "what I think" comments on NJ State Law; rather than "I don't know" I got opinion. I'd rather have a direct reliable resource to look to or have them look it up real time for me. One of the on-line forums helped with that. Otherwise, when I get time, I'll do archery there. During the week, days, the staff was always very relaxed, friendly and just go enjoy yourself, not penny pinching. I'd give a four star if not for that fact that I've used this store site since it was opened, -- so it's a review from then until now. We took a beginning archery class here this weekend and really enjoyed it. Matt, our instructor, was entertaining, energetic, and knowledgeable; you could sense his passion for archery in the way that he taught. He did a really nice job breaking down the basics of archery in a way that we could understand, even though our group was mostly new to the sport. The registration process overall went smoothly: we had some difficulties with the online registration but the people on the phone were polite and very responsive. The price was reasonable for a two hour lesson. The lesson also included full gear rental and free range time afterwards, which gave us ample time to practice our new skills. Overall, we had a great time and would recommend this class for anybody who wants to give archery a try. read more

I, like many others today, am considering purchasing a fire arm. I know absolutely nothing about gun laws or the intricacies about purchasing a weapon on-line. I felt rather uncomfortable going to the shop to ask my so very basic questions. I ended up talking with the manager and the assistant manager- two very nice and very knowledgeable guys who were extremely cordial and took quite a bit of time to talk with me. In terms of customer service this shop is excellent. Admittedly I've only been to the shop once but I certainly will be there again and will update this review as time goes by. read more

I dislike this store. My first trip to this store was with my wife. The store ran a special for a free accessary when you purchased a bow but they ran out. The manager told her to come back when they had more in stock and she religiously called the store for months. The manager also had a case of amnesia when we showed up to get it. Good thing my wife was able to produce the original ad. This past weekend I went to purchase a firearm. The store was busy and I waited for a long time to get to talk to a sales person. Then they started to take customers out of order. I left and purchased the gun the next day in Easton, PA where the staff is much more professional. Avoid this place and the clowns who work here. read more

Very unpleasant staff in the gun room and you will have to put up with death heavy metal music playing while you try to do business with the clowns that work there. Why a business would allow employees to play music that makes 99% of their customers uncomfortable is beyond me. Unhappy with the experience I had at Heritage Guild in Branchburg. I usually frequent the Rahway location (Keith is wonderful) but today I went here for a used P229 stainless elite. When I inquired about the gun they told me all of their used guns were at their other location for a gun show. Their website indicated they had this gun at this location, and there was no indication it wouldn't be there. On top of that I was treated poorly as I inquired about other guns that they did have on hand. I would recommend going elsewhere if possible. read more

Noticed Heritage Guild a few times while driving on 22 so decided to stop and check it out. Place looked interesting, large archery stock and selection. Nice store. Decided to stroll into the back where they have the firearms and looked around for a while. Finally made contact with an older bald gentleman who I said hello to. He grunted and made a face, like who are you. Really turned me off, why such an attitude? I may go back, but this grumpy OM needs an attitude adjustment. I buy all my guns and ammo from heritage staff is friendly knowledgeable and never treats you like an idiot unlike other firearms suppliers around here i.e. Sportsman's Rendezvous, their stock of fire arms isn't the largest but will order whatever your looking for quickly, and their PA store has way larger inventory and same friendly staff, but for a local firearms dealer these guys are the best hands down! read more

Jim and Matt both go the extra mile and assist you to make the right choice without intimidating you. I waited to speak to someone in the handgun dept for over 20mins. There were 3 workers in the dept...One looking something up on a computer, another reading some periodical behind the counter, and another walking around. Not once did any of them say Ill be with you or any other type of acknowledgement. So I left and went to BullsEye Tactical and bought $300 worth of ammo and a revolver. I will be telling all my shooting friends and anybody else to go to BullsEye and stay away from The Heritage! read more
