I ordered the hushpuppies $10 They were so good but its identical to the frozen bag sold at publix.... I would have loved to try the fried chicken but unfortunately you have to get the whole 6 pieces. $2 charge for "to-go" orders

I met some friends here for a quick lunch and it was ok. We arrived soon after opening; it was not busy so plenty of places to sit and service was reasonably quick. You order and pay at the counter, then your order is brought out to your table. It seems like it could be a nice place to hang out and grab a bite to eat, if you like the food. I wanted a bacon cheeseburger; however, it comes with American cheese, and I was told that I was not allowed to substitute the cheese or the fries. I generally avoid eating American cheese, so my option was a bacon burger. Thus, it made for a fairly mundane and pricey bit of bacon and burger patty with a tomato slice. I can't say that I would return for the burgers. The young lady that took my order and brought out the food was pleasant and polite. I did notice that the guy behind her seemed to be annoyed when I asked about substitutions. ***editing to add clarification on not being able to substitute the fries*** At the time that I wrote the review, I had forgotten that there was a lettuce shortage during the week of my visit. So, while I remembered not being able to substitute the fries, the reason was because the side salad was unavailable due to the lettuce shortage. While they do offer mac and cheese, potato salad and slaw as sub options, I needed something wheat-free and potato free, and I typically don't prefer slaw.

Chicken and waffles for me, and an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich for him.

The Hen & Hog is a delicious and completely unpretentious brunch spot. The portions were a good size and the service was excellent. I love being able to support family owned businesses like this. We had chicken and waffles, a breakfast sandwich, and a salad (gotta have some greens lol) and it arrived quickly and hot. The owner even brought us a biscuit that was huge and fresh and so good. It's the little things that make Hen & Hog a Winter Park stand out.

Amazing. If I could give 10 stars I would. Family owned so the recipes are also what they take pride in. The service was incredible. Never once was our table ignored, the cashier took really good care of us and suggested alot about the food. Everything he said we tried and he did not disappoint. He told me that someone said "If I was on death Row the chicken and waffles would be my last meal" I got it and that's EXACTLY the perfect way to describe it. Do not miss this hole in the wall. It is themed so sweet and southern and the food really does it justice!!! Try it!! You won't regret it!

Nice little spot with plenty of charm and good eats! I would return for the chicken and waffles alone, and will be recommending it to all chicken and waffles connoisseurs that I know. Something I definitely give them praise for is that the sandwiches were actually big sandwiches that filled you, with a small amount of fries. Too many lunch places will give you the opposite, small sandwich and a mountain of fries. We considered both sandwiches to be knife and fork jobs, but maybe that's just being particularly neat eaters.

This is a sit down restaurant where you order at the counter and they deliver your food after giving you a table number. The seating area is passively clean and the kitchen is questionable from what you can see over-the-counter. The issue is in the quality of the food and the delivery of the service. Ordered a fish and chip sandwich which they said was made with haddock, and there was literally no fish within the breading. It was a breaded sandwich, empty of any haddock. Asked for tartar sauce and was told I needed to pay a dollar extra for it. Apparently the $18 I paid for the "no fish included" sandwich wasn't good enough to warrant an extra teaspoon of tartar sauce. Then the chef/owner or someone came over and commented "did you get enough tartar sauce." I don't need to pay for snooty arrogance with the service I can go anywhere and receive better food and better service.

I really wanted to love this place. It's a counter order experience, super cute decor - sort of modern country meets BBQ joint in Winter Park. I was helped by a very nice but very apparently new girl. It took a while for her to come help me because she had to make bar drinks for another order. I ordered the Bacon, Egg and cheese sandwich on a biscuit and was told they ran out of tator tots. she charged me extra for fries, even though the manager said I could sub. I also wanted just black coffee and they ran out of that as well, so I ordered a Topo Chico. When I pointed out the issue the overcharge issue, she didn't know what to do, so the manager dropped what he was doing on the line and came over to the cashier station. He seemed annoyed and berated her in front of me. Since he had to re-do the charge anyways I asked to remove the Topo Chico since I couldn't believe how expensive that was at $4 a bottle. He huffed away and said he'd have to fix in later so I awkwardly took my receipt and number and sat down. Sure it was clear she needed more training and help, but he should've fixed it and given feedback in private if he couldn't control his frustration in the moment. Many people train in front of guests and show patience and kindness. Doing refunds in the system isn't easy when it's your first week on the job (yes, I asked her). This is terrible leadership and it wasn't impressing me or making me feel like "Oh good he's getting what I need done." All I felt was empathy for the poor girl he humiliated. When he walked away I tried to give her a word of encouragement. I was nervous he wouldn't properly refund the first order, so I called my bank to ensure the original order cost was blocked and only the second one taken. That wasn't the only issue. I ordered the $12 Bacon, Egg, Cheese on a biscuit and didn't even take a photo. The biscuits are supposed to be a signature item and were flat and greasy. Egg was overcooked and fries were just OK. I will definitely be taking my business elsewhere.

This is a solid spot for a burger! The mason jar burger was huge and delicious. I paid $25 for the burger (with a gluten free bun) and they gave me like 12 fries- I was kind of hoping for more. In addition, I wish they had toasted the gluten free bun, because it was a little crumbly and dry. However, overall it was still a very good experience! My wife got the Caesar salad with pulled pork and loved it.

Yummy place for burgers! Staff is super friendly, lots of indoor seating, great place for family or big group of people.

Kid's meal I was served as entree

I don't normally leave poor reviews, but there are certain cases where the management running the business should really and truly understand why their business is failing, and this is one of those cases. Today, we thought we would try a new spot to celebrate my husband's birthday with family. Eight of us walked into The Hen and Hog in Winter Park. The only menus available was on a digital screen on the wall. You order at the front and find a seat. We waited to order because the one girl running the register was expected to also run food on tables, bus, clean, get waters and handle all tables herself, and they were clearly understaffed. She finally appeared after a long delay at the counter to tell me, "it's gonna be a long wait." Now imagine, this is the first time you've ever been to this restaurant, you are excited to try the food, you walk a party of 8 in, ready to spend money and that's your initial greeting?! I asked, "well, do you want us to leave?" She didn't respond. She took the order and we went through it together. It was only 11 and they were already out of ribs my son wanted. I ordered biscuits for the table and she told me it would be an "up charge" for jelly, before telling me that there were only 2 biscuits for the appetizer for nearly $15!! Wow! But all that is nothing to prepare for what came next...We ordered and waited. When the food arrived, it was lukewarm from sitting too long. My husband's sandwich was fish on a bun with no tomato or pickle. It was grossly plain. He asked for tomato and pickle and was told "it will be a charge." I ordered mac n cheese as an entree with a side of chicken tenders. What was served is pictured and was essentially a kids meal, complete with one chicken tender, cut into kid-sized pieces. Then, she put a plate of full tenders and fries next to my mac n cheese and cut tenders. I was confused, but figured I ordered too much. When she came back to the table, I questioned the mac n cheese with cut tenders because none of it made sense. It clearly was something for kids, because no adult wants their meal cut up for them. She then told me "the big tenders are for her," and pointed to my aunt, seated across from me. I'm confused then why she placed them at my seat. About that time, the manager came out from the back, waving his arms open wide, loudly saying, "what's the problem?!" To which is replied, "is this a kid's meal?" He then rudely replied, "it's Mac and cheese with SIX DOLLARS worth of tenders!!!!!" We were all really shocked at his behavior. He had been berating the girl working the register, who was also running food, bussing tables, etc. the entire time we were in the restaurant. It was pretty unbelievable to see. A few minutes later two tenders were slammed down on our table with no apology or explanation, and no manager ever came back to apologize or make sure we were good. My husband, whose birthday we were celebrating, waited the entire meal for that one slide of tomato so he could eat his sandwich. We ended up leaving, just as the tomato showed up. We left it on the table as a statement. To the Management of The Hen & Hog, when you treat customers like you want their business, they will be loyal. The tenders and mac and cheese tasted good, but not good enough to even subject ourselves to all that again. One last note: the food is not made fresh. I watched the cook (same one who yelled at our table) cut waffles from a package and slap them on a griddle, then charge me $18 for chicken and waffles. My son's girlfriend ordered cinnamon French toast bread pudding and it was slides from a package and slapped on a griddle before sauce was drizzled on it as well. This place is totally not worth it! Take your money and family someplace that values your patronage, your money, and your business. UPDATE: The owner's response is rude, just like he was in person today. I went back and read the other reviews (which I should have done before eating here) & funny how the other guests also used the same words & observed the same things. His response to other reviews was incredible as well. This is how he treats his customers, and it's completely unacceptable! I have photos of the cut up tender that looked like a kid's meal he served me. I haven't had my food cut up for me since I was a child, so I guess he's going to tell me now that this is some kind of European-style delicacy. My entire family commented & watched him speak rudely to the poor girl at the front while we waited...& waited. The kitchen is open & we were all able to watch all interactions, and I know when a server & worker is valued and when they are not. You, sir, did not treat her well today. As stated above, the food tasted good, but nothing tastes as good as being treated respectfully as a customer, and you did none of that today.

Food was really great here! It's a Bear types vibe in there as you can see the chef/owner really taking control like it's a 6 star kitchen lol. The portions are huge, I had the Mason Jar smash burger and really only ate half. It did make good left overs though. Also the chicken and biscuits were huge. Came with 2, but in reality only 1 was needed. Mac and cheese was really good, I remember that from Mason Jar. Honestly I think they could reduce their portion sizes and reduce the price a bit and it would be a lot more worth it! Give Hen and Hog a try when you can! FYI you'll need to park in the back or in a separate lot off New York Ave.

This place was really great! Went after a date night at all fired up next door and enjoyed two massive burgers! Both were well cooked and tasted great. The owner came out and chatted with us and was such a great guy. They frosted the mugs our beers were in which was just a cherry on top. You definitely get a good bang for your buck.

Great spot. Many more things to try but I had the Cuban and Mac and cheese. Both were really good. The owner is the chef and provided me with great service. It has a great vibe and a relaxed placed to eat and drink. Come check them out.
