Very awful and sad place to work. Demoralizing. Admins have 2 faces, one for parents and one for everyone else.

Tova is a fantastic IEP advocate and educational consultant. She kindly advised me when we were…read moreseeking to move to LA on a free consultation and then proceeded to send me referrals and information via email. She has extensive, hands on experience as both an advocate and as a parent of children who are twice exceptional/have disparate special needs. She is also directly connected to a special education law firm and works in tandem with this separate legal organization. She boasts a PhD, is a parent who understands the struggles and journey herself, and provides comprehensive/exceptional services affordably. I have spoken with many IEP advocates and she charges a much more reasonable fee. Given how expensive and stressful the IEP/504 process can be-it helps to have an excellent advocate who still extends her services with professionalism & compassion without compounding the financial stress of advocating for your child's educational/other needs. She has created innovative school curricula for CA and FL schools, has trained teachers on supporting neurodiverse students, and supports you throughout this complicated landmine/process. She is also incredibly sweet and responsive to emails and phone calls/texts. If your issue is more complex and requires legal expertise-she has a direct collaborative relationship with a special education attorney, many friends in the special education field, and sends referrals to you regarding other parents' and their experiences. Highly recommended!

From the owner: I offer affordable advocacy for children in need of new or revised IEP/504 plans. Where do I start? My son (4 at the time) would not interact with us very much, would speak less…read morethan 20 words, and had several violent outbursts when we tried to change any activity or if his iPad would "die". When Big Solutions came into our lives we were hesitant because these were strangers who were going to socialize with our son and as parents we were scared of negative outcomes. Julian's journey began with his initial assessment and eventually to in home therapy. He was assigned 3 therapists including 1 supervisor. They (Ari, Claudia, Joy, & Paulina) are blessings!!! They connected with Julian but also became our teachers! They helped all of us with Julian's needs and how to understand what he was seeking, whether it be physical or emotional. As a parent with a child with autism, sometimes it's too easy to become frustrated and lose hope in any progress they may not meet. An example was my son's eloping. His father and I had no clue how to predict it or manage it. We would all take excursions to our local mall and his therapists were there with us the entire time. We learned to predict when he would run off, and why. He was seeking attention and sometimes just over stimulation so we learned to ask him to use verbal and non verbal cues of where he wants to go. Fast forward to three weeks ago while visiting an outlet shopping center (yes we wore masks) and we practiced all of those steps and he didn't elope! Had it not been for Big Solutions I would not see us going out with much ease as we have been. This is an agency that turned our life around and became part of our family while maintaining their professionalism. Big Solutions ENTIRE staff, from scheduling to in home, were amazing and extremely accommodating. They consistently helped Julian with communicating in various ways and adjusting to unexpected changes that happened every day. Big Solutions also helped us as parents in not give up and letting frustration and fear run our lives. They taught us so much and how to cope with unexpected outbursts and helping our son focus on his school. We were definitely lost in the ASD world and Big Solutions led us to a place where consistency, patience, and goals were good starting points for any situation. Thank you Big Solutions!

I have come to realize the firm, in Mission Hills, controlled by the CEO/BCBA lacks an 'inspired…read moregrowth' in company culture and inability to provide a healthy work environment. This specific firm seems to abide by social cliques and favoritism, making it difficult to collaborate as a team and move up in positions. The lack of respect, synergy, and compassion has hemorrhaged quality workers. Their lack of staff (BTs/BCBA) is due to: Abrupt schedule changes, extensively watching you work through cameras, hostile training, CEO/BCBA shifting blame to BTs, and inability to give a WELL DESERVED promotion. There is a lot of restraints/holds that are not documented or shared. CEO/BCBA has dual relationships with certain clients and is NOT proactive with their clients. If you agree with how they treat their employees, imagine the impact they have with your child. They have withheld information to parents about what happens in the workplace, and has had the police called on them to IMMEDIATELY share a report to insurance and to parents. Look somewhere else! This forced plenty of Behavioral Technicians to spread their ethics very wide, while simultaneously being gaslighted, micromanaged, and exploited. This is a toxic, passive aggressive, workplace that does not hold empathy for their employees. You will exhaust your efforts working alongside the incompetent CEO/BCBA. The micromanagement and dishonesty due to their lack of mentorship has driven many people out of the company. Here's a piece of advice: Treat ALL of your colleagues with kindness, they are the backbone of your company. Turn your attention to your clients best interests and continually build rapport. Don't bite off more than you can chew! Projection is uncanny in the workplace.

Wow, I just randomly went to share The Center with a friend and found their Yelp page full of…read morenegative reviews. I guess it makes sense because this is exactly the sort of business you take for granted and forget to review - unless you've had a bad experience. Funny how we will race to our keyboards to proclaim the best doughnut or latte but totally forget something which has made a positive impact on our lives. My teenager has seen two counsellors here in the last couple of years. She ADORED the first one and made great progress. Because of the nature of the Center as sort of a first stop after graduation her counsellor moved on and she was very reluctant to see another. I thought about paying the literally 3X as much to see the former counsellor in her private practice but decided to contact the coordinator, Cami to see if we could get in with someone new. She was super helpful and professional and matched her with a new therapist. Every week my daughter says after her session "well, she's not _____" but also every week she is making progress. Maybe lightning didn't strike twice (and believe me, we had tried several other businesses with abysmal results first) but her new counsellor is professional, compassionate and competent. Especially for those parents out there struggling to get someone referred by their child's primary care provider ... and I know that one. Spent WEEKS calling to find nothing through referrals. With their sliding scale I actually pay around what the co-pay would have been without nearly pulling my hair out to find someone through insurance. The intake forms are long but not dissimilar to what we experienced at other businesses. The difference here is that they stay in communication with you and let you know what is happening. This has worked out so well that even my EX HUSBAND now sees a provider through The Center. Give them a try.

I had a very unprofessional experience here at "the center for professional counseling " …read more After several months of seeing a counselor, she abruptly ended my sessions with no explanation. Said she could not tell me why but her manager CAMI could if I wanted further information. Being that her and I had established a strong counselor/client relationship, I was completely blind sided and confused. . At first I was disinterested in more information as I was very upset to hear this news. After a few days, I ended up reaching out to her manager CAMI several times via phone call/voicemail and never got a response In life we all have our triggers , mine are rooted in trust and abandonment. As you can imagine, this event pushed both buttons. At the end of the day, I chose to except the outcome and move on . Deciding to trust in myself and make the choice to be ok without answers. There are individuals who seek therapy that are on a thin line. This event shook me and I would consider myself a pretty stable being. It took me about a year to write this partially because I was embarrassed to share this info. My hopes is that, this post wakes up those at this center. As a counselor , you should never leave a human worse off than you found them. I entered therapy just wanting to do some spring cleaning within myself and left therapy feeling mishandled. I spent months sharing about my life's intimate experiences only to log onto my session one day and be dismissed.
