I was in the market for a rental apartment in Manhattan recently and sought the help of The Heller Organization in my search. I worked with Rebecca, who was phenomenal from the outset. She took the time to discover what it was I and my roommates were in search of and quickly curated a list of viable apartments which satisfied all of our search criteria. At the same time, she ensured that this list featured a variety of spaces in order to showcase the diversity of apartments which our budget could afford us, e.g. doorman building vs. walk-up, different neighborhoods, et cetera. As a first-time renters in NY who were not entirely certain of the kind of place in which we wanted to live, we found this to be particularly helpful in identifying what type of apartment we would ultimately choose to rent. Rebecca was incredibly responsive to all my communication and was able to answer any questions which arose throughout the process. When viewing apartments and speaking with her, it was clear that she is incredibly knowledgeable of the market, the array of neighborhoods in which we were looking, and the apartments themselves. Rebecca provided great insight without putting any pressure on us. From my interactions with a few other brokers, it became clear to me that many only have an interest in closing a deal -- even if it left the client discontent. This could not have been further from the truth for Rebecca; it is apparent that her sole objective is the satisfaction of the client. Heller Management has been a nightmare if an apt managing company for my NYC apt. packages are constantly getting stolen and I've asked them to help but they have not done anything. they are very unwilling to help their tenants and more concerned with raising rents then keeping their tenants happy. read more

I am in the market for a 1 bedroom. I stopped by the leasing office for their Williamsburg building. When I tried extending my hand, I was refused a handshake with no explanation by my leasing agent. It was embarrassing for me and it was insulting. I was not treated with the dignity and respect that he later showed his male clients. Sexism is sexism, even when motivated by religious convictions. To have their employees exhibit this to female apartment seekers is inappropriate in our culture and I will never be renting an apartment from this organization. To boot-the finishes were hideous. Lime Green kitchen cabinets and putrid yellow in the bathroom. read more

Just came back from being shown an apartment by Amanda Baffa. We were rushed through with little useful info provided. Questions were answered with questions. At times, Amanda was downright nasty. I tried to take a picture of one of the bedrooms. Instead of asking me not to take pictures, she hissed "don't take pictures". We asked to see the amenities and were begrudgingly rushed through some, not all. I have looked at a lot of apartments in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. Amanda was actually the worst agent I have ever encountered. I was interested in this building because of its location but I ended up throwing out the few materials we were provided because of the lack of professionalism I experienced. I won't be willing to look at any other apartments with this agency because of this experience. read more

I had a really unprofessional experience with Heller. I saw a great apartment and tried to work with Heller's agent to view the unit. The agent canceled on multiple scheduled viewing appointments with very little notice. So, knowing NYC is a difficult real estate market, I went to the building to see if someone could let me in to view the unit, and the doorman showed me the place and it looked great. I then asked for an application and the agent said she would send me an application within an hour and never did. A few hours later, the unit was closed to applications and the agent was still asking me to apply and pay the $100 fee, even though the unit was off the market. Of course, the company is under no obligation to be anything better than a jerk to people who are not yet their tenants, but for those looking at units in Heller buildings: beware. read more

Buying a place in NYC is a long, confusing, and invasive process.
