Looks like an old-school barber shop. But I didn't get an old-school haircut. I got a bad haircut…read more I tried them after a pretty good haircut at another Metuchen place. I had liked it at first, but the more I looked at it, the less I liked it. (I couldn't go back and edit my original review to make it more accurate. Lesson learned, I won't write anymore reviews until the experience sinks in a little!) So I took a shot at the Main Street Barber Shop. Timmy seemed like he knows what he's doing, but he wasn't doing it when I was in his chair. I think the problem was related to him reeking of marijuana. No judgment about smoking, but you need to bring your game face to work. And 9:30 in the morning seems kind of early to be firing up a big old spleef out back. I had to come back another day to get it cleaned up. But that cost me another hour and a half: drive there, cruise around looking for a parking spot (have you ever tried to park a car in Metuchen?) waiting for a barber, the actual cut, drive home... Who has that much time to waste? And the repair job required cutting my hair shorter: not really stellar. A semi-crew cut wasn't what I was looking for, I needed to look sharp for a job interview. I'm going with 3 stars here because they were packed first thing Saturday morning; they must be doing something right. Otherwise, it would have been just 2 stars.

Show up 1.30pm.. wait a few mins and confirm that my new appointment was at 1.30. This is the third barber I give five stars in the past ten years or so. First of, the barbershop is…read morereally cool, and they were playing good music. I saw kids, and college students getting haircuts from the two barbers, both of whom were very nice. I was happy with my haircut, and the barber used a razor to finish fixing it, which to me is the difference between a good cut, and some rando haircut place. She also asked me whether I wanted to trim or blend my hair, which is exactly the right kind of question, because I never know what I want and I have to be nudged in the right direction. I like the I could use a credit card to pay, and to leave a tip. My only suggestion would be for the barbers to use warm foam. Also New Brunswick is a pain to park in, so give yourself time to get there.

Writing a review after a long time doesn't come handy when you cannot remember the barber's name…read more I recently had a hair cut here going by the reviews and did a walk-in without booking an appointment. The place looked like a barber shop in the middle of a nice game room. The barber (sorry couldn't recall his name) asked the requirements and quickly jumped to work. He did a pretty clean job but I had a complete turn off when he assumed that I wouldn't need long sideburns and decided to chop it off short. I immediately told him that I usually sport long sideburns and he must have checked with me before proceeding. I was equally surprised that it cost $35 for a simple haircut. Anyway the place had good aesthetics and ambience and it would definitely cost that much if you are also making use of their pool table or the PlayStation. I also found the music little too loud as both of us found it difficult to hear each other.

I came to true cuts because I was looking overdue for a haircut. We had our first kid 2 months ago…read moreand haircuts have gone to the way side and as someone who has hair that grows pretty fast and needs about 6 cuts a year when I wear it long for a guy I was long overdue. I called to schedule and they directed me to their website. At first I wasn't a fan. But it was pretty easy to see all the available times and to pick the most convenient one for me which was actually within 20 minutes of me looking. You got to do stuff when. The kid goes down for a nap and my wife green lit the hair cut. I got there 10 minutes early and they were able to take me a few minutes early which I appreciated. The guy who cut my hair was good. He was young looking but he did a great job. He did a lot of attention to detail with my beard and whipped out a straight razor to clean up my brow a bit. I thought the prices were affordable and the shop was clean. Added bonus for Rutgers students they have a discount which is always nice. In about 30 minutes I was transformed from possibly homeless to stylin. And located on George Street in New Brunswick is pretty central. Worth checking out if you need a hair cut.

I've been going here since I was a sophomore in high school and I'm practically an old man at this…read morepoint. I always go to Joe because I have the most rapport with him. These guys are great at what they do. You book an appointment so you get to skip that hassle of walking in and waiting. But if you're in a hurry you can stop by and discuss doing a walk in with them too, very flexible team. Cut is always clean too, they use hot towels, straight razors, the whole nine. I know it's compelling because there's a lot of new barbers in the area, but truth be told, most of those barbers started at in the cut first and then opened their own gigs, I've seen this with my own eyes through the years ‍ had to mention that just so yall know who the OGs are in the area. They got my money, because the experience and cut is unmatched. I'm so upset with my haircut that I am writing this review at 1:00am. I can't even fall asleep…read more Called the salon today to make an appointment and was so sad to hear that my talented hairstylist Allen no longer works here. Receptionist asked if she can assign me with someone else. I said anyone but Jimmy (owner). My son and I had him once before and he did not do a good job. When I walked in today, they gave me Leo. He took over Allen's station. I asked for 2" off with lots of layers to give my hair some volume since I have very thin hair. Leo showed me how much he would cut off and I gave him the go ahead. I thought Asians are supposed to be great at math but holy shhhh he started cutting and cutting and cutting and it got shorter and shorter. At this point it was hard for me to say something. Pretty sure that he cut off FIVE whole inches. Not only did he cut off 5" but the layers he gave me were very choppy, it looks like he hacked it with a saw. The receptionist came by to sweep up my hair with a dust pan and my eyes were bugging out because I was in shock at how much he cut off. I spend an obscene amount on high quality hair products at home to keep my hair healthy. Now it looks like shhhh. Never in my entire life have I ever gotten such a bad cut. I know it's just hair and it will grow back but I felt I need to write this review to warn others. When layers are trimmed, it should fall softy and naturally. He also thinned out my ends so much that it looks weird. OMG!! I can't!! The strange thing is, all the best stylist at this salon, Allen, Ben, Jackie left. Now I will have to go into NYC to find a new salon. This has traumatized me.

I called them on a busy Friday and the person on the phone accommodated me within 15 minutes. When I arrived, I was promptly attended to by 2 people! I think it's the fastest salon service I've ever gotten, usually a wash cut and style and root touch up takes 4-6, they got in done in under 2! Efficient, and reliable! The pricing was clear, and transparent, which I also appreciated. I was told upfront how much service would be, as well as any fees for cards. Staff was helpful and attentive and seriously blew me away at the haircut I got. I even got a snack! Seriously, if you're hesitant, don't. They are incredibly nice, fast, and accommodating. I feel confident and happy with my haircut (Thanks to Allen) and will surely be back! Would highly recommend this spot!

(She always did quality work). I figured I'd give this new guy Quan a chance. He was friendly but this is about the service provided. He absolutely butchered my neck and I don't have sensitive skin. He didn't even put on any spray or lotion for the burn. Picture is 5 hours later and my neck is still red and burning. I'd be surprised if he cleans his clippers. May I give 0 stars? Had an appointment for 4pm. Arrived at 3:55. Was told Randy was too backed up…read moreand asked if I minded going with another barber. One of two people sitting in back stood up and volunteered while the other kept playing NBA 2k without moving. Why neither were already cutting hair to help with backlog is beyond me. While the young man proceeded to cut my hair, I learned through his own sharing that he was not licensed, still in hair cutting school and it was his first day on the job. All things that would've made me say NO when asked if I wanted another barber. I then proceeded to hear about his hip hop career and how he also works as a waiter. He may some day become a decent barber, but today wasn't that day. I showed him a very clear picture of what I wanted. He did not execute. He was timid with the shears and didn't go any where near as high as asked. Scissor cut a lot of hair I never get cut by scissors. Mostly on upper sides. The buzz lines were uneven on either side of my head. The length on top varies significantly from side to side and front to back. I still have hair on back of neck and at lower part of hairline that should never be there. I also learned that the owners, think they said Juan and Mike, don't come in. When I attempted to speak to Randy, who was the most senior person there, he was confrontational and argumentative. He took offense to the fact I was upset he dished me to an unlicensed trainee on their first day without sharing that info. He made no effort to quell the situation other than to "explain to me" why I was wrong for being upset and disrespected as a returning customer. When l asked another patron who was also upset what time his appointment was, he said 3:30. It was 4:45 and his son was still in the chair. He indicated, he needed Randy to finish because they were late. At that point I left. This establishment is being run by an immature barber who is not ready to manage. He even said at one point, "I'm not the boss here bro". They have 2 unlicensed, still in training barbers on staff and no one else. Avoid at all costs!!
