Playful, imaginative and excellent wine! Perhaps my favorite of all the wineries in Kelowna, that Hatch is doing something different. Meandering off the main road and down their unpaved driveway, you are greeted by vines overlooking the lake and a sprawling outdoor patio with fantastical art on display. The interior tasting room is casual, a vaulted wooden structure with a library of wine bottles on display. We were instantly greeted and given a cozy corner (6 ft+ from other patrons, appreciate their safety precautions!) to enjoy our tasting. Visiting from California, it was fun to try wines typical to the Okanagan. I especially enjoyed how light and nuanced the Merlots are, since CA Merlots tend to leave me feeling punched in the face. We ended up purchasing a 2017 bottle of The Greatest Love of Mal to bring home. It was divine, with a taste that danced between chocolate covered cherries and a subtle licorice finish... I can easily (and did), keep sipping until the bottle disappears! read more

Loved everything.. Except the wines. Ambience was great, old barn converted to tasting room. Cool funky old west style decor. Nice patio. Service was great, friendly staff. The wines, I was just so so. They kind of seem to do less mainstream wines. I applaud the idea but just wasn't impressed by any of them enough to take any home. read more

Our third winery stop of the evening was at The Hatch. They're known for having eclectic wines. We dropped in on a Thursday evening (around 6:00pm). Service is friendly, young and enthusiastic. Liked how our hostess adapted and curated our tasting based on specific preferences. Tasting fee is $10.00/person and includes 5 pours. The fee is waived with a purchase of a bottle. - 2020 Sweet P - a blend of pinot gris, pinot blanc and pinot auxxoris. Didn't love this one. The end note had a strange, bitter taste. - 2020 B. Secco - their version of a bubbly made from a blend of a couple different grapes. End note again wasn't enjoyable. - 2020 Müller-Thurgau - subtle and not sweet. This was our favourite of the bunch. - 2020 Orange - another German grape (kerner). We got a hint of a buttery note. Interesting. - 2018 Gamay - smooth and a touch smokey. A touch of tannin at the end but overall enjoyable. - 2017 50 Shades of J - bordeaux style. Full bodied, black pepper on the nose. - 2020 Pinot gris - we bought a bottle ($19.99). None of The Hatch's wines stood out to us but they do bring something different to the table. read more

Came for a wine tasting yesterday (June 27). We first tried to go to Mission Hill Winery nearby but was turned away since we didn't have a reservation, so we headed to The Hatch. The folks there were much more warm and welcoming, and we were given the option to either stand and do a tasting or wait a few minutes for a table to open up. We opted to wait for a table, and were seated within a couple of minutes. All seating is outdoors here, though unfortunately there are no lake views. The tasting is $5 per person (waived if you buy a bottle) and includes 4 wines which range from a bubbly to white to red. I appreciated the variety! In this pandemic era, the wines are pre-poured in plastic cups and brought to your table, where the server goes over each wine and answers any questions you may have. Of the four, I enjoyed the 2019 Winemaker's Wench the most, and bought a bottle of that to go. My main complain was that because it was quite windy, dust would periodically blow over from the parking lot to the tasting area. Definitely saw some in our cups... read more

Really fun winery with creative wine names, and backstories for each wine. Dog-friendly (inside - in the winter!) and friendly/helpful staff made this a worth while stop. There's a large parking lot, so I imagine they get quite busy during the summer, there is also an outdoor patio (which we didn't use - winter). Wine tasting fees are waived with purchase, and each wine tasting experience comes directly to you (rather than everyone ganging up at the bar) - this gives a personalized feel to the experience. My mom and I decided to drop into the Hatch in between wineries and WOW, we are so glad we did. We both did wine tastings and our server was incredible. We bought some bottles of wines and I bought a funky candle. The server was incredibly knowledgeable and told us a lot about the history of the winery and the artwork around the grounds. Definitely put this on your must stops in Okanagan especially if you're open to something hip and new. This is indeed a cute winery with lots of little touches that lend to the farm theme. The service was friendly, but because it was busy we didn't get a lot of information during the tasting. The wines themselves didn't blow us away. They felt a bit young to our palates; I thought they could benefit from a little refinement. The decor is cute and country with picnic tables outside and an old time saloon feel inside .Diners download the menu which I felt was not very informative or descriptive ie is a side enough for 1,2 people .All sides are a la carte ie not included with the main protein so it adds up .Our server was not very knowledgeable or enthusiastic about the menu The diner ticks off their order on a reusable order sheet which also seemed to be open to mistakes especially since our server was so lacking enthusiasm..We asked if the queso could be brought as a starter and we're told "maybe " ,that everything kinda comes out together .We actually got the tasty side of mac and cheese before anything else. Diners are served family style and given a side plate not a dinner plate to assemble your food which is too small for ribs or brisket We tried to order a flight of beers and were told they ran out of glasses ( in a brewery,)although we saw nobody with a flight on their table.The food was ok but no great shakes in the world of barbeque pretty bland without a side of sauce . Definitely a fun stop on the wine tour in Kelowna for me. This winery has personality, from the quirky logo to the Tom Jones vinyl in the bathroom, it's fun. They have old saws, tools and shovels lined up or mounted to the walls as decoration, they sell funny items in the gift shop ares including cards, shirts and baby onesies. But we came here for wine right? Sitting at the large table to the back of the room with orange antlers as a centre piece, we gathered with Jonny to sample the Black Swift Chardonnay, Gobsmacked and Screaming Frenzy Merlot. Lovely wines with fun storeis behind the vineyard placements. All the bottles have unusual artwork, most was created by a local artist and close friend of The Hatch, but some of the other labels were drawn by the owners kids. So cute! This was by far our favourite winery we visited on our trip to the Okanagan Valley. At first we didn't know if we walked into the right place but we loved every moment! What a different weird but cool vibe here, sooo different from all the other wineries we visited! Grayson explained the different wines, where the grapes are grown, the stories behind the wine and of course do the tasting. We were blown away with how much we liked almost all the wines we tried. The Pinot Gris and Smoke Show were standout. We brought a whole bunch of wine back to Seattle with us and will savour them until our next trip back. read more

What a great little winery! It is a fairly new winery having only been open about 10 months. The winery itself is just off the busy Boucherie Road on the way to Quail's Gate and Mission Hill wineries. It has a very rustic and homey appeal to it and the staff made us feel very welcome upon arrival. Even though a party function was going on, we received great service from, Grayson, and learned a lot bout the wine that Hatch delivers. Our particular favourites were Gobsmacked that is a blend of Roussanne, Riesling, Viognier, Gew and Pinot Gris. The label was drawn by the winemaker's 9 year old daughter. I thought it was a nice added touch. The wine itself had tons of flavour. The other favourite we enjoyed was the Screaming Frenzy Rose. It wasn't too sweet but perfect for sipping on a hot day. I recommend that you stop by and try the wines from this hip new winery. Lot's of flavours to surprise and tantalize your palate with. read more

What an amazing winery! I was in Kelowna this past weekend for my bachelorette party, and our tour guide insisted that we go to The Hatch - thank god we did! We were part of a tour, and unfortunately we had a TERRIBLE experience with Quails Gate winery, but The Hatch was there to save the day. We came to The Hatch with our own picnic lunch in tow, sat at the picnic tables and Grayson (the manager) brought us several samples of wine and we were not charged a penny! This was a very smart business choice, as we were more than happy to buy bottles of wine after. Grayson was amazing! So fun, energetic and knowledable. You can tell he loves his job. Amazing winery! Absolutely loved it! A hidden gem I say that cause it's not as well known as a lot of other wineries in Kelowna. I really enjoyed it my husband isn't even a big wine drinker either and really enjoyed the wines too. You are also allowed to have a glass in their licensed area we just didn't have time. We stopped in at The Hatch on Canada Day, it is a really neat little place. The Hatch is on the smaller side, but has a big personality. We tried about 6 different wines and left with a couple bottles of the Screaming Frenzy Chardonnay. The Hatch also sells some really cool merchandise from socks to posters to sunglasses. All their labels and artwork is unique and hand painted (if I remember correctly!). The shop and tasting area is in a really old farm building which makes for some unique decor. The staff at The Hatch was very nice and friendly, we had an awesome time. I am 30 and really enjoyed how mainstream and "hip" The Hatch was compared to some other traditional wineries we stopped at. read more

I'll admit this place was a little hipster, with a pretty tasting room made of early twentieth century recovered wood, fixtures, and doors. The wine labels are made by tattoo artists, or are detailed animal fantasies with plenty of whitespace and virtually no identifying text. My general rule is that when a place puts a lot of effort into its appearance it's to make up for the lacklustre effort in the glass... however, their wines were very good! We ended up leaving with three bottles, which is essentially unheard of for us. As this is not an estate winery, there is a wide variety of wines available despite only having opened in 2015. This includes well-priced easy drinking whites that aren't saccharine, moderately priced full reds that are ready to drink, and more expensive big chewy reds that have a great flavour but need to be cellared a few years yet. In sum, there's a little something for anyone here, and the winemakers know what they're doing...5 stars. read more

We found The Hatch so refreshing after just coming from Mission Hill. While Mission Hill is an absolutely stunning property and yes, yummy wine, the atmosphere is so formal and borders on pretentious. The Hatch on the other hand felt very welcoming and the servers were very knowledgable and fun to be around. We wished they had some yummy snacks and more seating inside (worn out leather sofas would be cool)...We would totally buy wine by the glass or bottle there and just relax. The outdoor picnic tables were a nice touch. We will be back with friends and family. Way to go "The Hatch" for thinking outside the box from your packaging to your presentation. read more

Prior to visiting the hatch, on thanksgiving weekend, I specifically checked the hours to make sure it was open after our Mission Hill and other winery tours along the way. The website claimed it was open until 7 pm, every day in the autumn. However, when we arrived around 5 pm, we were (rather rudely) informed that the tasting bar was closed and that we could "still buy wine if we want". I mentioned that the website said they were open until 7 pm (as did the sign outside) and the staff member said something about "closing early to have dinner with their famjams", absolutely understandable! But perhaps mention it on the website or social media with such a large influx of tourists during the weekend. Even a handwritten sign outside would have been nice. My parents, my boyfriend and I had come from Victoria for a one time trip. Why on earth would we purchase wine, with 250+ wineries in the region, without tasting it first? The general ambience (Jay Z and rap music?) and the rudeness of the staff was very off putting. My boyfriend and I are 23 and we felt they were putting on a front that was too hip for us. Will not return or ever purchase wine from the hatch. They missed out on 4 customers out of rudeness and disrespect. read more

After having visited quite a few wineries throughout the region this was one of our last stops before vacation ended, and what a fantastic place to end on. Tasting room was full of interesting odds and ends to look over, loved the art. While it was busy with quite a few tastings happening it didn't take long for a warm welcome from one of the staff. We tried a variety of the wines, all were really delish, and ended up buying a couple of bottles - trying hard not to suck them back the first week being back home! Staff were very knowledgeable, enjoyed their comical descriptions of the wines and in depth information regarding their vineyard. Overall the experience was really great... it was casual, fun, you didn't feel obligated to buy (although I'd be surprised if you didn't!) and you didn't have someone longingly staring at you, waiting for you to blurt out every descriptive word printed on the back of the bottle each time you took a sip.
