A Saturday afternoon at approximately 2:30 PM. The drive-through line was very long. So we went inside to wait in a seemingly very long line that moved fast. The staff was moving like bees in a hive. All of the tables were full, people either eating or waiting for their food. It was crowded and busy; yet it was very clean and orderly. You can see the staff cleaning tables, sweeping floors, and changing the trash. It was so busy that the cashiers had to pause in between taking orders so the staff could catch up. Very understandable with the long line outside and inside. The manager was even behind the counter expediting. I ordered a pastrami on French roll with extra mustard and a small order of onion rings My food was fresh hot and absolutely delicious. The golden onion rings were photo worthy. The pastrami was so tender, not dry and chewy. Every time I get a pastrami, I keep the meat that has falling out of the sandwich, and I chopped that pastrami meat up the next morning and put it in my eggs. SO GOOD!!!! My favorite foods here are the pastrami, pastrami chili cheeseburger, the tamales with chili, the chili cheese dogs, and of course, the chili cheese fries with pastrami. A group of us came in right before the lunch time rush, so we were really lucky to not have had to wait in an extremely long line. It did get crazy busy while we were dining in and the line to the drive thru was intense as we were leaving. The people working here were friendly, no complaints there. I don't think there needs to be a big fuss about this place. I did think the pastrami was good, with great flavor and not too greasy/fatty, but it could have maybe been a bit juicier. The bread got a bit soggy, maybe that's where all the moisture went, but I am the type of person who kind of likes that. The disappointments were in the sides. The fries and onion rings were also a generous portion but kind of lacked flavor. I did like the self serve drinks with the orange bang. We kept driving by this place and kept driving because the lines looked ridiculously long and we were always in a rush. Not today. Today we had plenty of time and there wasn't much of a line so we decided to brave it. Plenty of free parking and a short walk to the venue. Once we entered there was a short line. About 5-6 pp in line only and the line went fast. We wanted a pastrami sandwich that would wow us so I chose pastrami dip sandwich. Hubby chose chili cheese fries. The size of the fries! It was enough to feed 3, maybe 4 people. What I like is the self serve dispensers for the drinks. It allows me to go back and get a refill before I left. The pastrami sandwich was also big. It was enough for 2 people to share for sure. They put lots of shaved pastrami in it that spilled out of the bread. My only disappointment was there weren't any au jus to dip the sandwich into or some kind of sauce. The pastrami was also very thin and a bit dry compared to the best pastrami sandwich I've had in the past. We sat outside on a bench because we brought our dog with us. I have been a big fan of The Hat for years. We stop by the California locations at least 1x a year. We thought we'd wait for a bit to try this one as it always looks so busy. There was definitely a long line in the drive-thru but inside we were quickly able to order. The wait for the order to be received was maybe 5 min. I don't know but it didn't taste the same somehow. I felt like the fries were a little too stiff like maybe they weren't cooked all the way through. And the pastrami itself tasted different from the Cali locations. I finally got around to checking out the hype. I live close by so always knew about the hype was coming from LA. The day it open like OMG line out the door and drive thru. Insane. It still is but not as bad if walk in (drive thru the same always long line). Total luck. Literally walked in and straight to cashier place my order. NOT normal. Nothing special. I waited a bit to let the crowds die down. Arrived at 10 and went inside. If you have even been to Ted's Hotdogs in Buffalo, NY, the vibe and look is very similar. I waited a total of 20 minutes from ordering until I got my food and was pleasantly surprised. I'm so glad I waited until the hype died down before I tried to even attempt to get in line. We ordered the pastrami melt, the chili, and two pastrami dips. The pastrami dips were good. I thought the pastrami had a good flavor and wasn't too salty. The chili was meat chili with no beans and was just okay to me- not my favorite. However, the star of the show for me was the pastrami melt. It had a great flavor and the cheese was not too overpowering. The bread was nice and crispy like a good grilled cheese sandwich. I will definitely be getting that again. When heavily hyped restaurants expand to Las Vegas, the strategy is to wait for the lines to die down and for management to work out any kinks before you dine, and I'm so glad I did that. Inside The Hat, my order was taken after a few minutes wait. I found it to be quite organized and efficient, no issues there. Check out the pickup counter and load up on all the little spicy peppers you want to set your mouth on fire. If you're coming with a larger group, expect to split up as most tables seat up to four, and you'd be lucky if the one table that seats more than four isn't in use. When I drove thru The Hat, it was also pretty organized thanks to signage and stanchions. On a Saturday night, we waited the same amount of time we'd wait in an average In-N-Out drive thru - come with this expectation and you won't have an issue. Portion sizes are insanely generous. There really isn't much of a difference between a small order of onion rings and a large - either way they're the best I've ever had! Order the pastrami chili cheese fries and you can feed a family. As a longtime Las Vegas local, I was excited to finally try this famous California pastrami spot now that it's made its way here. The service was excellent, and even though there was a line inside, it moved quickly. Finding a table once the early dinner crowd rolled in was definitely the bigger challenge! While the chili wasn't really my style, I can totally see why it's so popular with Californians, my husband loved it. Ok so it's better than Togo's... I'm old enough to remember when Togo's hot pastrami was all the rave. So to this day it still holds a sentimental spot in my heart. But today I tried the infamous The Hat, and it surely did not disappoint. The first word that comes to mind when thinking about my lunch experience is "quality". From the retro iconic logo, to the double bagged commercial grade paper sacks, to the tender thinly sliced pastrami, super fresh bread with just the right amount of chew and an old school heaping amount of onion rings, everything just screams quality -- a true throwback. With all that said the prices are pretty reasonable too for what you're getting. Huge portions! The pastrami is thin sliced as mentioned. It is neither too lean or too fatty, and zero gristle or tough pieces. Great consistency. Now personally, for the ultimate pastrami experience, I prefer thick cut pastrami with some succulent fat on it, more reminiscent of an east coast deli style cut. But for thin sliced pastrami, this is top notch. It's also not overly seasoned or salty, it's very balanced, with just a trace amount of mustard and pickle. The onion rings were solid. I was only able to eat a couple since they're fairly battered, more like the bread crumb type consistency, as opposed to beer batter type. I also got a chili tamale to research more of the menu, but was too full to try it yet. We were excited to see The Hat finally open in Las Vegas! We'd originally tried it in the LA area on our way back from a trip with friends, so we already knew what to expect, and we're happy to say it tasted just as good here. We stopped by about two months after opening, and the lines were still pretty long, but arriving earlier in the day made the wait very reasonable. The portions are just as huge as we remembered, so definitely come hungry. We ordered the famous pastrami chili cheese fries, and it was moist, flavorful, and packed generously. It's always nice when a new location stays consistent with the original, and this one did exactly that. If you've never been, it's worth trying at least once. I pull up and the drive-thru is insane, so I decided to park and go in. The line inside wasn't bad. I was 5th in line to order. After ordering, I waited ~10 min. for my sandwich. Overall, the entire process took ~15-20 min. The pastrami sandwich was good. Not great, but good. I shared it with my husband. It was filled with pastrami and tasted exactly like the last time I had it in L.A. (Pasadena to be exact). Went for takeout on a Tuesday evening dinner for the family. I intentionally waited a few months after opening to hopefully allow the crowds to subside. There were still about 15 cars in the drive-through when I arrived and the timing from arrival to food-in-hand was about 25 minutes so they're continuing to get a good crowd. We ordered multiple items to share - the classic pastrami dip, a pastrami melt, a tuna melt and the chili cheese fries plus an order of onion rings. I thought the pastrami was quite tasty - it's shaved nice and thin which is a prerequisite for a good sandwich. It's seasoned very well and not too lean or fatty - just right. The sandwiches come with pickles for an acidic complement to the meat. We enjoyed the tuna melt - it's clearly a house made mix and that sandwich comes with lettuce and tomato. One of my favorite items was the onion rings - they're in a thick breading which is my preferred style. I found the chili cheese fries to be a little on the dry side (if that makes sense). I think perhaps the fries had soaked up all the chili by the time I got home (we live about 20 minutes from the restaurant). I think if I ever wanted to come back I would want to dine-in which I believe would be a better representation of the food quality. Alright folks, I've been to the original HAT in Cali. Went once and never went back. So, where's the rundown for you. Avoid long lines by going hella early in the most random time at 5:00pm or later after 8pm. Don't even mess with that drive through, it's horrendous looking. Park and just line up or walk in. Pastrami melt- 4/5. Onion rings- 5/5. If you love onion rings, this is the real deal. Chilli fries- 1/5. Fries were meh. Chilli looked like doo doo and I half lost appetite with the look, color, and everything about it. I didn't get cheese on top, cuz it drives me nuts to see unmelted chunks of shredded cheddar cheese on any hot foods. I want my cheese melted, not look like I just topped it right out of the fridge. Flavor was just...0/5 basically not good at all. And I am a self-proclaimed chili connoisseur. Pastrami burger- 5/5. I don't know what it is, but it was exceptionally good. What a shocker this place was. Headed out to get a late night dinner after working all day and realizing what time it was. Didn't want to go too heavy and didn't want to sit down and have a long dinner so my son took me here. I was surprised that there was a line at least 6-7 cars deep in the drive thru and there was a line inside waiting to order. I suddenly had a feeling that I was at In n Out. Neither of us had been here and it's only been open for about a month so we'll see if the lines die down over time. We had to order a pastrami since it's what they're famous for. We also got a roast beef dip sandwich and got a large order of onion rings to share. We sat and waited in a packed restaurant at 10pm and when our number was called my son went and grabbed it. It comes in a brown bag. The pastrami was huge in comparison to the roast beef. Both were good but I think the pastrami won out for both of us. The thing we couldn't get over was how many onion rings we actually got in that order. We both ate them and took some home and both had some the next day and there were still a few more for one more serving! That was a great serving size for the money. Finally got to try this SoCal staple a few weeks after their opening. While the drive thru was still insanity, walking in was a much more reasonable (maybe 15 mins) wait. This was one of my dad's faves, so as an homage to him, had to try it out and bring home (that said, there was a decently large dining room for people to eat in). Wasn't completely sure what to get and ended up with a few Pastrami Dips (which was 1 too many for 2 of us) and a Chili Cheese Fries. Pastrami dip was delicious.. not a whole lot to it, but honestly... there doesn't need to be! Amazingly, the leftovers were delicious the next day too, so if you're not sure if you need one more sandwich.. just get it and have it the next day. As for the fries.. like others on here, nothing earth shattering. Mind you had to bring them home, so the fries likely got a bit softer, but the chili was just okay. The amount of cheese was nice and absolutely necessary to change the flavor. Next time, I'd be going pastrami chili cheese fries (which I didn't see as a menu item until after paying) or fries and gravy (someone get them some cheese curds and these could be decent poutine. I will say that the fries tasted better reheated the next day... so either dine in and eat them fresh.. or maybe reheat them at home immediately?? There are so many options on their menu though World Famous Pastrami Sandwich Roast Beef (Au Jus) Roast Beef (Gravy) Chili Dog Cheeseburger Steak Sandwich Ham & Swiss Turkey & Ham Sides: French Fries, Onion rings and so much more. Looking over the menu, my husband and I decided to try the following Pastrami Burger (Plain with just pastrami, cheese, burger patty, and pickles) Onion Rings World Famous Pastrami Sandwich Chili Cheese Fries Even though it was really busy inside, we did find several open tables for two. There were also two self serving soda stations inside the restaurant. The receipt included our order number, which would be called when the order was ready. It was busy but, our order was called relatively quickly, within 15 minutes. First thing that stood out was the portion sizes! We ordered way too much food, had plenty of left overs though! The flavor was amazing! Everything tasted fresh, hot, and made to order. The Pastrami Burger was my favorite. The pastrami and the burger was scrumptious, packed with flavor. The Hat is the latest addition of a CA staple that has recently offered its culinary choices to the LV community. Is it fine dining or healthy food? Nope! But it makes it for a good "cheat day or month". The pastrami is a must and the prices are very reasonable considering the rate of inflation. 3.5 stars overall due to their inconsistency in preserving the firmness of the burger buns. I guess we were expecting the same proactive approach as the CA staff, but I guess we need to lower our expectations as this is Vegas outside the strip after all, and not our South Orange County hometown. So, if you are missing a SoCal joint, the pastrami is still wonderful, flavor was probably dialed down a notch from what I remember but still great. Just don't expect the typical South Orange County service and polished crowd when you dine in the restaurant. I was a bit culture shocked when I visited. Had to find out (and experience) what all the "local" Vegas Californians kept talking about. After about a month of its opening, the lines were short enough to finally go in. I ordered the hot pastrami sandwich and their pastrami cheese french fries. First off both the sandwich and fries were huge, like bring three other people with you cuz you are not eating all that by yourself huge. The pastrami is really good, like I can just eat a bowl of pastrami and be happy. Over the sandwich is delicious, fries are good too but I'm not really a big fan of loaded fries. read more
