Stopped in after a hike and was soooo surprised and delighted. Outstanding service, super clean, amazing burgers and a beautiful patio. To be truthful when I seen the price of the burger which was over 15 ( w/ side) I was like it better be good. The verdict- one of the best burgers I have ever eaten hands down. Upon lunching at The Handlebar recently, I didn't realize that I hadn't reviewed it despite having stopped by many times from 2020-2022. As I told my friend recently, it's just a good locals place in AJ. Back then, a friend and I made it a point to hike as much as possible while the gyms were closed + had occupancy restrictions a few years ago. Most of our hikes were out in/near Lost Dutchman/AJ so our food options were... light. Luckily though the first time we recovered post hike, we had a great server and time at The Handlebar. So we kept coming back and getting her. Cut to present day - didn't see her with my recent post-hike lunch but the good vibes were still there. Apparently since my last visit they've installed a smoker so most/all of their food is smoked. It definitely elevates the meat - both of us loved our burgers. And the smash potatoes... SO GOOD. Don't sleep on this place if you're in the area! read more

Great food, drinks and atmosphere. The staff is amazing, they make you feel like family, the live music is great, not too loud but just right. We sat in the patio area and our table had a nice fire in the middle for everyone to enjoy. Prices are reasonable and the food was amazing. I had the pork chops with Brussels sprouts and asparagus. We tried to like this place multiple times. The food is good; however, it's not worth it if the bartender is nasty. I guess if you aren't a regular nobody wants to serve you. The bartender would literally laugh with regular customers and then drop her smile into a completely blank face and ask us if we want anything, like we were inconveniencing her. So cold. Great patio. Poor service, except for drinks. Smoked Acorn squash was half cooked. Inedible. Never asked once how we liked our food. Was it ok? Brussel sprouts were mediocre, not very warm. Order onion and mushrooms on the side of our $17.99 steak. Steak was medium and ok. We ordered medium rare. We had the cheesecake dessert w chocolate syrup. Hersheys. Cheesecake was warm not cold. I think they bought it at Safeway. Our waitress was overwhelmed. Not her fault. I'm not coming back. If you want to drink. Probably a good place. We are not big drinkers. read more

I've recently went vegetarian again due to health and personal reasons, and I was overjoyed when I saw that one of my favorite places has a tofu entree! Happy to report that it is probably the best plate of tofu I've had around The Valley. Stopped in last week after hiking in the superstitions with friends. Didn't look too much into the reviews, saw this place was rated well and figured it would be good. I did not expect to be greeted with a legitimate binder of craft beer options, as for the food: I had a classic cheeseburger and couldn't be more happy. I don't get to this place enough.. Great beer selection including a lot of NA beers. Not into wine so much, but they seem to have a great selection there as well. Fun atmosphere outside with live music and games. Not sure if they still allow smoking on the patio, but that's kinda been the only negative on one occasion (had to move inside because it was too smoky on the patio). Ordered the surf and turf with the steak medium rare on 2/25/25 at 5PM. The steak was extra well done and like shoe leather the shrimp was also over cooked and tough. Another party at our table orded the same thing and their steak was also shoe leather. For the price they charge for bad food, not returning again. read more

I am solely leaving my review based on the hostess that was taking reservations on St. Patrick's Day. Her attitude is why I decided my family would try out a different place. This was my first time visiting Handlebar. We were going to celebrate my FILs birthday which lands on St. Patrick's Day. When we walked up to ask what the wait time would be fully understanding we would be waiting a good 90 minutes there was another customer asking the same and we were next in line to put our names down. Their conversation went as follows: Customer: "What is the wait time?" Hostess: "2 hours" Customer: "Wow, 2 hours? We just wanted to watch them play" (referring to the bagpipes) Hostess: (in the absolute rudest way) "Then stand" That set the tone for the restaurant for me. The hostess is supposed to welcome guests. They're the first person you interact with and so they should be welcoming and have a good attitude. Even when it is St Patrick's Day and it's busy. It's to be expected. If this hostess had a bad attitude I can't imagine how the the waiters and waitresses were going to be. We would have waited to be seated as again we were expecting the wait but after that interaction with the customer in front of us I said never-mind and we went to R.T. OSullivan and waited there instead. Mind you the hostess there was just as busy and had a great attitude the entire time we waited. read more

Who would've known that one of the best burgers I've ever eaten would be somewhere in Apache Junction? While my friends were huge fans of the bruschetta burger, I was drawn to the Peppercorn Aioli burger. We all asked for our burgers to be cooked medium rare and the meat could not be more tender and juicy and flavorful, let alone filling! Nonetheless, my hubs ate his steak and tried to steal some of my burger! Our waitress had the task of handling 10 of us all hangry after hiking in the Superstition Mountains yesterday morning. The patio is very unique. There is putting green grass everywhere. There are a lot of gazebos. There are fire pits and umbrellas galore. It feels like you're at a friend's house grabbing a beer on their patio just catching up together. The beer selection is extensive and carefully chosen. They have local meaderies also on the menu! They only have French fries on certain days which my friends did balk at, but there were plenty of other sides that were a hit. I really enjoyed my blue cheese potato salad. We enjoyed 2 meals in 1day at the Handlebar. For lunch we shared the green chile burger and enjoyed a beer and a glass of wine. The service was terrific. Our server obviously loved the spot and was eager to share the ins and outs of the bar. We came back for the Roses and Stairs brewery tasting event that evening and had a blast. We felt welcome and were made to feel comfortable. It was mostly locals, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. We came in for my dad's birthday and were drinking, but there was a large selection of drinks to pick from that I saw on the menu. I opted for the green chili burger as did my mom and we loved it. Great place to have a few beers & listen to live music! Good selection of craft beers some you can even take home, they have cans just ask. You can stay at the bar while waiting for your table. We were seated near the performing band. Ambiance was perfect at the patio complete with a fireplace by your table. This used to be our go to local hang out. It was small and cozy and we would go for dinner and live music on special occasions, then they took over the space next door and set out to expand. We went there several times during the expansion construction and the food was terrible and the service was bad. We've been saying for quite a while that we need to go back but have been reluctant to take a chance. Well the day finally arrived, we had out of town guests and needed a local spot for lunch. We were pleasantly surprised when a cheerful hostess promptly seated us on the patio and reviewed the food and drink menus. She explained they have some specialty drinks, margaritas and martinis, that are made using wine instead of hard alcohol. None of us tried one of these drinks but I plan on doing so next time. Our waitress, Jessie, greeted us and helped with our drink selections. She was awesome, so friendly and helpful. One of our guests is gluten intolerant and Jessie explained that the owner is also gluten intolerant so there are quite a few options available. I also noticed several options for vegetarians on the menu. They have a good selection of food with a lot of interesting sides to choose from. One of my favorite sides is the kale slaw. We were all very pleased with the food. Our out of town guests loved the place. It has a nice local vibe and the patio now is large with a great atmosphere. I'm always afraid when a place expands, a lot of times it ruins the ambience, but this time it turned out nice. The place had gotten so popular and when the snowbirds are in town it used to be hard to get in so they definitely needed the extra space. We'll be going back more frequently now that we've had this awesome experience! read more
