Waste of money! Gumbo was terrible! Oysters stink. Not impressed at all. Big let down. Not going back again!

Food quality has really declined. Service was MIA for a long time before I got to place my order. Then they got the order wrong. Portions smaller also. Banana pudding is ridiculous small now. Don't know what happened but very disappointing. read more

The raw oysters were all right but they seem to use the same sentiment for their other foods. The baked oysters just seemed to be warmed and not cooked, the onions were raw and the cheese was barely melted. The bacon was either raw or possibly even steamed making it the second worst I've ever had giving it the silver crayon colored piece of scrap paper of shittiness. I ordered two hotdogs with cheddar and bacon, the bacon was once again raw, to no surprise, and the cheese was clearly some store bought pre-shredded probably Kroger brand stuff melted in a microwave the hot dogs themselves were pink and tasted like they were microwaved even the buns tasted stale and warm. These hot dogs were definitely constructed first and then microwaved after but only enough for the cheese to melt. There were three people working from what I could see and my mother and me were the only customers there, the young girl who was the waiter was a gem and sweet no issue to her but the man who seemed to be a higher up was unpleasant. I'm a firm believer of workers rights and don't fall under the type that believes workers must uphold constant professionalism at all times but I also believe that they shouldn't scowl at the costumer. All in all a disappointing venture to seafood in a land locked part of a state. read more

tried for the first time at lunch today. ordered the grouper po'boy and fries with sweet tea. the sandwich was on two hot dog buns smashed and toasted with a small piece of grouper, lettuce and tomato and maybe 7 fries. total was $18.03. sweet tea was good though. but not impressed. read more

Here's my experience. Big menu, lots of voices. I had baked oysters with cheese(Monterey jack, ) bacon and onion. Delicious. I got jus 1/2 dozen . I would go back again for more... whoever was in charge owner/manager? Not very friendly at all.. but other wise would have given 5 stars.. a personable warm reception goes a long way with me to coming back to a restaurant. But what I ate was delicious!! read more

This is a great family-owned restaurant! The food is really good, the atmosphere is nice and family-friendly, and the service is great. The staff is very friendly, as well. This is my family's favorite place to eat in Newnan. I've tried several different things on the menu, and I've enjoyed every bit of it! No matter what you choose for your entree, the potato salad is a must as a side. And for dessert, try the banana pudding. It is out of this world!!! read more

Just ventured in to this establishment for lunch and there was only one other table that was occupied. While we sat and waited on the server, two more couple came in. The server went to o e of the other couples and took their order...I was okay with that but when he bypassed us to take the other couples order I knew we had been discriminated against. You see I am a lesbian and I was with my wife. It was such a blatant gesture that I immediately got up and left this place of business. In all my 57 years of life I have never seen such a blatant slap in the face. first time visit and qit was subpar.I brought my mom here for lunch because she requested fried catfish and I'd heard good things about the seafood here.. There was 1 server- she was very sweet and doing the best she could. We were 1 of 2 tables in the place to begin with but it quickly filled up and she had 6 tables with a total of about 20 guests. The manager on duty was assisting with running food and refills but kept a very stoic demeanor. I don't know if he was having a bad day or if he's like this all the time but it was not a welcoming environment. He got into a verbal disagreement with another customer who was complaining about their food taking 48 minutes- and all he kept saying was that they were busy and then he told the customer to leave and not come back but then asked if he still wanted his food. When the customer said no, he went to the window and said loud enough for me to hear him tell the kitchen "he said he doesn't want his food" - the whole thing was very awkward to hear and see as it just didn't show any professionalism or customer service in making the situation right or de-escalating the guest. My moms food came out about 5 minutes before mine with no explanation or reassurance that mine was coming up even though we ordered together- she had catfish, fried okra and sweet potato fries- she said it was good and hot but needed salt because nothing was seasoned. I had a catfish po boy, sweet potato fries, and a cup of Brunswick stew- if you are true Southerner, DO NOT ORDER THE BRUNSWICK STEW- YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED. It was watery like soup and had vegetable medley in it. I'm not exaggerating, it had pulled pork, sweet peas, white potatoes, green string beans, corn (to be expected), and carrots, plus it was cold. I sent it back and told our server it wasn't to my liking- she offered another side in its place and I told her I was fine. The manager came by and asked if I wanted it to go-to which I declined- if I wasn't going to eat it there, of course I wasn't going to take it home. The fish was cooked well, but lacked any flavor and both mine and moms sweet potato fries were burnt for the most part. I know there is a shortage of workers all around but if the service attitude from all parties involved had been better, it would have made the difference. I tipped our server Destiny directly in case she had to do tip share because she was the best part of the service experience. When the manager checked us out at the register, I wasn't offered a receipt and when I requested one, it was not itemized but a copy of the charge. Sweet Lawwwwd! Call Mama to get some of this gumbo! I have tried gumbo in New Orleans, Houston, Pappadeux in Atlanta and well- I can't lie, I make gumbo at home with 2 andouille sausages and seafood from 2 different specialty markets - but these folks have their own little twist on things and I sure did do the happy dance. Worth a try! The rest of the menu seemed like fried seafood (I don't each much fried) and hot dogs, which don't really interest me, but these folks seem promising if that's what you like. Have lived here in Newnan for 10 years and finally went and ate here. At first glance it doesn't look like much but the food was exceptional. If you like seafood this place is great. I had the Low Country Boil and it was as good as I have ever had. My wife had peel and eat shrimp and a cup of gumbo and also thought it was great. We enjoyed our experience so much we went a couple of weeks later to their West Georgia Seafood Festiival. Great way to spend a Saturday afternoon with our granddaughter. They had live music, great food and entertainment. I would definitely recommend this place. We plan to visit regularly. read more

I stopped in at lunch time. There were a few patrons in the restaurant. The waitress was prompt, friendly and helpful. I ordered a dozen oysters on the half shell, a cup of red beans & rice, and one of the specials, (hot dog and pork bbq sandwich) The oysters were served on ice, fresh and great, with fresh ground horseradish and cocktail sauce on the side. The red beans and rice with sausage was very good, as were the pork bbq sandwich and hot dog. Overall it was a good experience at the Half Shell. I will visit again when I'm in the area. read more

Worst service and food ever! I can't even fathom what those hotdogs are made of, but it's not meat. They looked like plastic and the texture was wrong on so many different levels. The " server" was rude and spent the entire time I was there on his laptop. I had to ask him twice for my check as he was paying zero attention to tables. Raised on the west coast of Florida, I miss a good seafood shack. This is the next best thing you'll find around here. When the oysters are decent sized, I really enjoy coming here for a dozen raw and an ice cold beer. I like their red beans and rice too. The BBQ sandwich is also very good. We have driven past this place a million times. My husband ALWAYS wants to stop, but I'm reluctant.....only because from the outside it doesn't look too appealing. But boy was I wrong!!!!!! We decided to take a trip to Half Shell today and it was one of the most amazing meals I've had in Newnan to date. We ordered onion rings as an appetizer, oysters rockefeller (which were to die for), 2 hotdogs, potato salad, grouper fingers, baked beans, and fries. Everything was DELICIOUS!!!!! Robin was our waitress and she was an absolute gem. On top of her game, very friendly, and extremely personable. The owner was also there and was a great guy! I give this place 5+ stars! Driving through Newnan today & craving seafood my wife and I stumbled upon this place. From the moment we opened the doors I felt like I was on the shores of the gulf. Being in a place named Half She'll, and being reeled in by the fresh seafood aroma I had to scamper through a tray of raw oysters. WOW! They were so good, as big as I've ever had, and tasted as though they were brought to land just for me. My wife had Brunswick stew & I had gumbo. Another great surprise was the bill. My husband and I go for lunch here about once a week. We get one of the lunch combos - 2 hot dogs Chicago style, bag of chips and drink. We have also had the Brunswick stew, potaoe salad, cookies, hot dogs in other styles and gumbo. Everything is homemade and delicious. One of these time we need to try the Oyster stew and get some oysters on the half shell. This is one of the last family owned and run restaurants in the area. We look forward to talking with the owner and his wife, who are often behind the bar preparing the orders and talking with the regulars. Their wait staff are quick and very personable. They always stop to ask how we are doing, and take the the time to listen to our answer. Oysters on the half shell is one of our favorite places to eat in the area. Go check it out. read more

Great oysters. I was apprehensive since we are so far from the coast but the raw oysters were fresh, juicy and sweet. The fried shrimp and oysters were delicious. Just the right amount of breading and seasoning. And the steamed shrimp were cooked perfectly. Highly recommend! read more

I love chili dogs and grew up in a part of the country where chili dogs reign supreme, so when I saw this hole in the wall joint I got excited at the sign that read "best chili dog". Sadly, the chili was bland at best with little to no taste worth returning for. The hot dog that was part of the meal, was shriveled, small, and barely palatable. There is no atmosphere whatsoever and if you want friendly service, you're better off going to chick fil a. When I came in I was the only person in the joint, and yet the waitstaff refused to hold a conversation with me and left me sitting in the dining area with no TV on and very odd music. I dropped in here after a friend of mine, who owns a very good BBQ restaurant in Buford, mentioned it to me as worth a try. So, I dropped in at 3:30 in the afternoon to scope things out, chat with the staff, and eyeball the menu. At first, I thought this was like a biker bar version of a hotdog/bbq cafe, especially since, when I walked in, the only person in the place was an enormous guy with a goatee, moving around behind the counter. He nodded at me, I nodded back, and told him I was new to the area and needed to find a couple of places to kick back, enjoy the people and the food, and be able to trust the kitchen. He smiled and said he hoped that he could deliver the goods. I answered that, today, I would take out, and how about a small sample of your Brunswick Stew? I was pleasantly surprised that the stew had the right consistency, St. Simons version of taste and ingredients, and was very palatable. I bought a quart to go, plus a #1 chopped pork plate, which consisted of two medium size pork sandwiches, a side of coleslaw, and a drink, all to take home to my dear wife. At home, we enjoyed the tenderness of the pork, its smokey essence, and just-right juicy flavor. I had to doctor the slaw a little. Now, why not a 4 star rating, you may ask. It's because I haven't tasted of the main event, which, to me, is oysters. Chili dogs have become another victim of cultural snobbiness, complicated by the "best chili" crowd. I was raised on Varsity dawgs, greatly prefer the NuWay dogs in Macon, and privately enjoy Ball Park Beef Wieners at home, with potato bread roll, and covered with Wolf's canned chili with beans. Add a red stripe of Heinz's ketchup, and I'm a happy puppy. So, I will not opine on the hotdogs offered here. The rest of the menu is a matter of investigation later. So when we stumbled across this seafood/hot dog restaurant we were intrigued. If you're looking for fancy, keep looking. If you're looking for clean, comfortable, friendly and fun, this is your place. The oysters carried the day. They were fresh, plump and salty and clean tasting. All the important condiments like saltines, hot sauce, horseradish and ice cold beer are available. We were like kids in a candy store. Our visit turned into a 'let's try everything' event. Our palates were bombarded by a diverse set of flavors. Not a bad bite was had! The service was fast, helpful and friendly. We never felt rushed and had a nice conversation with the staff and some very friendly patrons at the table next to us. If we lived closer, we'd eat here more often. read more
