my loaded fries were far from loaded. They were sprinkled with a tasteless cheese (i couldn't even identify the cheese) and had about 6 pieces of bacon placed on top. The sour cream tasted like air, might aswell have dipped my chips in water. The only good thing i can say about this is there access to colouring activities and i enjoyed the pepsi with a beautiful hint of lime that so gracefully blessed my drink. read more

This pub is normally full of students from Queen Mary and some older people who live in the area. I used to go there all the time back when I was doing my masters and have some late drinks before going home or a full English after a big night out. Being in Victoria Park for fireworks night I thought I'd come back to this pub because I haven't been in the past two years and I was happy to see that it hasn't changed. Despite being a wetherspoons I've always liked the food there, the Tennessee burger was one of my favourites and there are a lot of cheap drinks deals to cater for the student crowd. In general I was happy I was back there and I still think it is a nice pub but the crowd does not match my current life stage (a bit over cheap shots and getting IDed). Also I would not travel an hour across London to get there on a regular basis. However if you are a student and live in the area you should definitely make this your local. read more

Though the exterior of this building might be impressive, thanks to its conversion from theatre into drinking establishment, this is certainly not reflected in the interior which sadly looks like every other Weatherspoons bar in the world. The carpet looks like something your grandparents would find quite fetching and dotted around the place are various pictures and fittings which whilst trying to hold on to some of the history of the premises only serve to remind you of the downhill slide this property has taken. This is the most likely place to find your local alcoholics, owing to the absurdly cheap drinks and food on offer. Unfortunately you pay for what you get and the food is dire whilst the drinks although quantiful are generally of poor quality. The outdoor seating area is the one saving grace and can be quite pleasant on a warm afternoon. Not a place to linger for long but a decent place to kick off a cheap evening. read more

As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Obviously. Being near a college campus and all I think this place is pretty decent. With tuition to pay and books to buy, no ones looking to pay for a wine and dine type of meal. You want food, you want alcohol, and you don't want to break the bank getting it. The atmosphere of this place is pretty chill. I like the architecture, I like the decor, and the food passes. What's nice is that they have some deals in the afternoon and certain items are 2 for 6 quid. I've had the fish and chips, beer, and breakfast here. The fish and chips was a tad overdone but it was still crispy good. Beer is beer which is pretty standard. As for the breakfast, I thought it was an excellent deal! Refer to the picture I posted to gauge the deliciousness. Obviously, breakfast is easy as heck to make, but hey I like it! Overall, it won't give you an orgasm but you will enjoy it. If you're buzzed, who cares anyways right? Plus, this place is an excellent hang out sort of place. Bring some friends, grab a beer, get some cheap food. read more

Walked by the place on a beautiful sunny day on my way to the train station and saw the huge beer garden. The place was relatively empty at 3pm but that just meant we got our food and drinks really quickly. I had the fish and chips (finally in this country!) and they came with peas- the whole dish was delish! My husband had the sirloin steak and loved it! It also came with chips and peas. The last time I went the fish was not fresh and the chips were stodgy - not what I expect from a spoons! But when I went last Friday, I got a fresh (two-headed!) monster portion of cod and fries. A cheap pint and a big meal, what more could you want. Crowd was a bit dodgy but they're just a part of the Wetherspoon's furniture. All in all, a decent evening. read more

I did a study abroad program and stayed in the Queen Mary University dorms/flats. Half Moon is just a few steps away so me and my classmates came here pretty frequently. It's very close to the Stepney Green tube station, which isn't one of my favorite parts London but it's where we stayed. I wouldn't make a trip to Mile End just to come here but if you're in the area, stop by. They have pretty good drinks, good bar food and surprisingly their bolognaise is really, really good! Nice vibe inside and they have a pretty large outside patio area as well that's nice. read more

It may be pretty frowned upon in the foodie and...drinkie?...community to say this, but Wetherspoons, ya alright. I mean, yeah, most of the time I'd rather be supporting independent businesses and drinking quirkily named beers, when you've got a short lunch break, not much cash and a Spoons next door, what's a girl to do? The Half Moon is a pretty big pub, with a nice outside area and big glass doors that let lots of light in. I ordered a burrito, and they happily made it a naked burrito for me when I asked. There was plenty of guac, salsa and sour cream and the chicken was tender and tasty. The salad leaves left a bit to be desired, but otherwise it was a solid enough quick lunch option. ***Note I am sending the same review I posted on Trip Advisor*** 7/12/18 I am writing this from the US. I will be there in two days. Seems to be a nice bar, however after the World Cup loss they decided to toss out a few drunk lads who were trying to start fights, BUT...had no care for the five ladies and three guys leaving to go back to their dorm. They are with the Oregon State University Business School summer courses there. My daughter is one. Their group was attacked by the three men who had been drinking at the bar during the game who proceeded to punch the guys and THE GIRLS!!!!! Not sure if my daughter has a concussion or not, but she is not in good shape. The jolly lads also had fun SEXUALLY ASSAULTING the ladies as they were going about their business. A police report was filed as soon as they could show up to their dorm....Assault and Sexual Assault. I am told they have at least one of the suspects in custody...at least I hope!!! This very well be a good place, but if you throw people out for trying to start fights, is it possible you might look down the street a bit when ladies are leaving soon after????? I am in the process of contacting the bar for their point of view...and hope they help me bring these "people" to justice.... I fly out Saturday... to be there.....I have one question....is this how people treat one another in London after a game loss????? Also known as "Spoons" by QMUL students, this is a fun college bar with a lively, fun vibe. Drinks and food are extremely inexpensive and there are some great deals (£5 pitchers, burger/beer/fries for £6). Of course, food quality is somewhat reflected by the price, but I enjoyed the meal and felt like it exceeded my expectations. They have breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert so there is always a wide selection of options. I love going here for pre-drinks since it is next to Stepney Green tube station and always find myself meeting new people! read more

Avoid at all costs! I was robbed while sitting in the beer garden because they have a massive gate that's wide open and don't keep an eye on who's coming in. Afterwards, the bar manager was completely unhelpful and uncooperative when the police got in touch with her to request CCTV footage, claiming that the quality was too 'pixelated' and was reluctant to provide it, despite having told me on the night that they had clear footage of the incident. Apparently this sort of thing has happened frequently in the past at this particular pub and while it usually can't be helped, it was disappointing that they haven't taken steps to protect their clientele or to make it harder for thieves to operate on their premises (easy access to the pub with no security, CCTV cameras that apparently don't work properly - what's the point of having them then? - and unwillingness to cooperate with the police). It's a shame because it is a nice pub with cheap drinks and food and a lovely ambiance, but not worth going to if they're not prepared to take steps to make it a safe environment. read more

As this is a Spoons, after all, I must use my handy dandy Wetherspoon rating system. And I give this one 4 heaping spoons up. You just can't use the same scale as for a regular public house, because let's face it, Spoons are a different kind of free hosue. The Half Moon stands defiantly in the dreaded Mile End area, basically connected to the adjacent Queen Mary Uni. Many I time I have dropped by before an evening out in the area and ran here after class. Hell, I have even had a drink here on the way to class... Yes, the carpet looks a bit like Kesha threw up a psychadelic pattern after a few too many cocktail pitchers. And yes, I have witnessed a mini fight among inebriated freshers at the end of a night here. However, overall you do see a lot of students here which make it feel significantly less sad than your average Spoons. The food and drink are uniform so let's focus on some of the things that make this place unique. There are these strange glass doors which are a bit out of place considering this building used to be the Half Moon Theatre of East London. The interior main hall makes this historical factoid pretty clear with a expansive domed ceiling. The other parts of the Half Moon are decorated in glass and geometric yellow shapes cutting through the overall maroon wallpaper. It's funky. There is a nice outside beer garden which is separated from the main area with the aforementioned full length glass doors. And as crowded as it tends to get, I always find a place to sit and never feel like I am far off the age group around me, which is not something I can say of most Spoons. read more

Staff are friendly, food is average stuff-your-face kindof food, nothing gourmet but good pub lunch. Very casual, usually a little busy inside; you may be forced out into the cold, but its pretty enough in the rather large smoking area. read more

It is a wetherspoons so you know what you get. There is a nice outside area which is good for the summer. I did once wear a yellow tshirt and attracted a lot of bugs - so be careful. They also have a big screen for various sports but it is at an inconvenient height. Currently they are showing countdown and it is worth the inconvenience for Rachel Riley. Also, two big meals provide enough food to satiate the hunger of three people. My mate is quite big too. Sometime the food is not hot so can only give 3 stars. read more

It really is funny seeing reviews from people new to the UK. This is cheap because it is a Wetherspoons. Simple. As Wetherspoons go it is cheap for London ( the City etc have higher prices). So....dirt cheap drink? Yes. The usual selection of ales that are interesting? Yes. 6/10 quality food? Yes. No surprises but beware....it can be horribly busy (witness aforementioned non-locals including students from nearby Queen Mary Uni) so you often won't be able to get a seat. The decor is also pretty horrible and you get a fair number of locals tanked up on cheap beer shouing on. But on a good day it's ideal for cheap food and decent beer. read more

probably the worst salad i've had at any restaurant or pub i've ever been to. my friend's burger and fries looked like the defrostable type, the bare minimum of what a burger should be. although i hadn't been expecting much from the food (especially considering the prices), drinks were subpar as well. janky seating and a pretty depressing ambiance overall. it was a relatively hot summer night; we dined in stuffy silence. sorry if this sounds harsh, i just honestly believe that there are a lot better options if you're looking for a cheap pub around mile end. read more

This place is spookily cheap, and often has an outstanding selection of craft beers from around the world. The crowd is none too cool or pretty, but you can change that by bringing your own group. Fact 1: Their food is not good, but definitely worth the pittance you pay for it. Fact 2: Sometimes you can score a deal where you get a free beer with your food, or a free food with your beer if you want to see it that way--it is THAT cheap. Fact 3: I got two cans of Six Point Sweet Action for £5. That is better than Brooklyn bar prices, or sometimes even Brooklyn grocery store prices after tax. Fact 4: Double Hendricks G&T is 4.50. What a shit hole. I've never seen such a fucked up establishment. If in London avoid this place. Food was good, drinks were good. But the service was horrific. Four of us ordered at the same time burgers. They brought two and we waited for ten minutes then asked about the other two. The cook came out and explained that the digital system went down and our food would come out soon. Over ten minutes later, our food arrive. No silverware, or condiments. He came back another ten minutes later. We asked to speak with the manager. We saw the cook tell the manager to come to our table. He never came. His name is Remy (pussy). The cook said he refuses to come to our table. I went to the bar and asked for him. He refused to come out. What a shit bag. Even though it's probably our only trip here, If you come avoid this place. Rant over. read more

This is a really good place for cheap pub food that's still really good. The best fish and chips I had during my month in Europe. The drinks are great. They do stay really full of students but it's a good environment. Highly recommend. I ate there many nights during my stay. read more

The Half Moon has some of the most inexpensive pub food in London, yet I would say it is among the highest quality food I have found. The Half Moon became my normal pub of choice, because I knew I could get an excellent meal at a great bargain a compared to the rest of the area. Food is served promptly in comparison to having to wait almost half an hour for a burger at some pubs (Silver Cross). Many of the premium food choices also come with an alcoholic beverage (or non) for under a total of £7. The menu and beverage choices at the bar is extensive and well balanced and offers specials throughout the week. Couldn't hope for a better place within walking distance! read more
