The business relocated recently to this new storefront to expand. The interior is decorated in an industrial style with a few repurposed items as decor. The store is immaculate and well organized. My friend loved her book and I also have been wanting to read the one I got! It was Middlemarch! The shop owner was super friendly and shared a lot of her thoughts on the books in the store. I don't exactly seem like their target audience and ideal customer. But, oh, how you would be wrong! Yes, when I find myself in a cute boutique, I'm usually the only guy to be seen (unless you count those hapless husbands who were dragged there just so his wife could "pop in and see and what they have") But fellas, listen up! Boutiques are your secret weapon. They do all the heavy lifting for you and instead of looking through a million stores to find that one perfect gift, go to the one store that has a million (well, almost) perfect gifts. When you find yourself asking: "Where can I find a great gift?" Let me introduce you to the boutique! Sometimes you can enter a store like this and have no idea what you are looking for and simply be inspired by the numerous gift ideas. On this particular day, I had a pretty good idea of what I was looking for, but alas, I couldn't find what I had in my head. No worries! Therein lies the power of the well-curated boutique. I quickly found a wonderful gift that may have even been a better fit than my initial idea. And it didn't stop there! I found other cute gifts to accompany my primary gift. Redefined Hope Boutique is a special place. Unlike any other boutique I've visited, Redefined Hope has a mission. This boutique supports the Hope Center, which is a local ministry on the front lines of fighting human trafficking. Do you need a better reason to visit? I'll be honest, I've been in and around "church world" for several decades, and when I usually see coffee shops or bookstores or other storefronts attached to churches, the can be a little less quality. It can be tough running a successful business with primarily volunteers. But Redefined Hope is simply a wonderful boutique standing eye to eye with any specialty shop, and I'd say they are even nicer than most I've visited. Redefined Hope is a beautiful shop with quality goods placed thoughtfully on tables and shelves around the store. You are sure to find the perfect gift (or gifts!) for that special someone. I know I did. From clothing to jewelry to books to travel mugs to plants, you won't be disappointed in the selection. They also have a coffee shop in-house, and all of the staff is so helpful. One of the coolest things they had on this St. Valentine's Day was a "Bloom Box" (I think that is what they called it). It was several bins filled with gorgeous wildflowers and you could hand-select the flowers of your choice. They also had a table with butcher paper, twine, shears and tape so you could wrap your bouquet with thoughtfulness and love. I had so much fun picking wildflowers and accompanying greenery to craft the perfect bouquet. I highly encourage you to pop-in to the Redefined Hope Boutique and see what they are about, learn about the Hope Center and have fun browsing their well-curated selection of beautiful wares. I look forward to going back when I'm looking for that next perfect gift for a very special person.

I typically only come in during the holidays because they have such unique items that are not available anywhere else. I tend to find some kind of special item for my daughter's December birthday. I especially love the cute bags they use for your purchase. I decided to get a latte today and sit and enjoy the little space they have ... bonus points for not having a room full of people using their space for office work or it looking like the coffee shop we tried yesterday. Very nice ambiance and the sunlight makes that room so warm and cozy. A nice array of books to just look through. I enjoyed it very much! Maria made my latte, she was very sweet. I even was able to try the graham cracker ice cream which was delicious! Definitely going back for that! I purchased a couple little trinkets, and looked at all the different items. Such a lovely little shop. Please consider supporting this amazing shop. A little bit about the place itself is in the pictures.

What you really have here are local folks designing and printing shirts, stickers, magnets, mugs, and a variety of other products all with an Indiana theme. Somehow, I'd missed the fact that they'd opened a storefront in SoBro directly off of East 54th Street in the storefronts next to and behind The Clubhouse. I was in the area today and decided to check out some new businesses. This area tends to have a lot of fluidity in terms of business - not always because of closures, but because businesses also just grow and move on. Every time I'm here, I seem to find something new. United State of Indiana has ramps at both doors - both ramps are really well built. The interior is easy to navigate and is filled with a wealth of shirts, stickers, mugs, posters, magnets and so much more. There's pop culture themes, Indiana and Indy specific themes, political statements, landmarks and a whole lot more. The employee working was super friendly and helpful. I could barely turn any corner without seeing something I wanted to buy for a friend. Truthfully, there's no doubt I'll be back because this stuff is so incredibly well done. I ended up taking home two magnets today - one for the Monon and one with the Indianapolis flag. They're already on my fridge. This is such a terrific shop. I happened to pick up a magnet that had an incorrect price (they recently had to do a bit of an increase - completely reasonable and I'd easily have paid it, but they insisted on honoring the price as it was their mistake). I also loved that they had a wide variety of sizes for t-shirts, hoodies, sweaters, etc. Because of how my body curves with spina bifida and also because of my ostomy, I tend to wear larger clothing. They have it here. Such a delight. United State of Indiana started as an online storefront. That storefront still exists, however, I'm definitely one who loves that in-person experience and I look forward to returning here in the near future. As another accessibility note, while you can park right off East 54th, there's an accessible spot behind The Clubhouse and next to the back entrance of the store. It's where I typically park as it gives the wheelchair lots of room.

There's a local author shelf and there's a fun mix of local talent there in a variety of genres and age categories--plus sometimes, signed copies. They do carry some gift items like candles, and their custom stickers and apparel make me smile. The little book guys are fun! Tomorrow is well worth a stop if you're downtown. I'm a writer by profession, so to be surrounded by books and 'zines and magazines and comics, AND the instruments by which to create these things? When I visited, the owners were busy setting up for a book swap event, which they kindly told me all about and invited me to stay and participate. I had no books to trade, but I'll definitely be back for the next one in the coming months. Indy Type Shop is the type of place where you'll find gifts for the extraordinary people in your life. The kind of people who appreciate old things with history and a story behind them. Along with a shockingly large number of vintage typewriters for sale, you'll also find things like old typesetting letters, vintage cameras, matchbooks, art prints, and all sorts of precious, one-of-a-kind relics from a time when people used typewriters. There are also lots of books, including a huge collection of poetry. There's also a shelf with 'zines, which don't have a set price, but you're encouraged to make an offer. This place is unique and wonderful, and I'm so glad that it exists in Indianapolis.

If you loved the musty charm of Red Dog's Greenwood spot, you'll love this somewhat inaccessible but still charming little place with friendly employees, a ton of books adding up to literary chaos, a non-profit spirit, and the best prices in Indy for used books. Take that HPB. I believe this spot used to house auto repair. You can tell Red Dog is fixing it up and cleaning it up. It's still musty. It's still a bit divey. The books are stacked high and there are sales galore. If you're looking for strict organization? You won't find it here beyond a few sections clearly designated within genre (very loosely) and some sales areas where you can get $2-3 books. They also carry DVD's, audio books, and even VHS. Yes, I still have a VHS player. This is a women-owned, disabled owned shop. They really are a non-profit organization, as well. They offer curbside pick-up - I'll admit I'm not quite sure how that works unless the books are secretly organized way more than I believe they are. I will utter a word of caution as a wheelchair user. Accessibility lacks a bit at the front entrance. There's a small step to the sidewalk in the parking lot - there's no designated parking (I actually had to move my car over when someone parked next to me unexpectedly). I was able to jump the step myself, however, if you have mobility issues just be aware. When you go in the front door, there's also an unexpected step down. It's a slight step that I initially missed - fortunately, my wheelchair could handle it. As I left, the employee noted that there's another option that is more accessible and they're happy to assist if you call them. While they didn't help upon entry, this same employee did help at the front door as I was leaving. Super friendly. Once inside, I found the aisles surprisingly accessible with the exception of a couple corners. I think a larger chair might struggle, however, most manuals should be fine. I found the selection really solid, though they had rows and rows of romance novels and I couldn't find a single nurse romance novel. Yes, I collect nurse romance novels. Leave me alone - you try having almost 100 surgeries and not getting a massive thing for nurses. Seriously, though. They're still getting organized and straightened out. I already love the place and have a feeling it will only get better. I do know they're struggling a bit as they get settled. I'd love, love, love for Yelpers to show up and give them some love. If you can't find a used book here, you probably can't find one anywhere. The eastside really needed a shop like Red Dog Books. There was a fairly steady stream, though certainly they could use more to help spread the word. Definitely a thumbs up for me and I'm going to do what I can to give them a boost!
