Because they offer a wide selection of equipment I rarely ever have to wait for a machine or be stared at by someone else who is waiting to use the machine. Other gyms I have worked out in the past I found this was a big issue for me and it wasted valuable COSTLY time, but I guess you get what you pay for right. Be very careful before giving Global Fitness your business…read more My husband asked to join for a month, was told to sign the contract and that there was nothing else he needed to know. He had just been stationed in NY, and his work schedule did not leave him a lot of time to set up things like a gym membership. He went in during his limited time off, was just looking for a month-to-month membership, and was told about monthly rates. When he asked, the staff specifically said there was nothing else he needed to know, and did not make him aware of the contract provision stating his membership would last for a minimum of one year. They let him sign under false pretenses, and they don't have the decency to help him out. Once we raised our concerns (about being told there was nothing else important in the contract) to the staff, they initially told my husband they would cancel his membership. They ended up making us jump through hoops until I finally spoke with Al on the phone, and he was incredibly rude. (He is also only available for a limited time on Wednesdays, and specifically said that my husband's military work schedule was not his problem.) He could have just said it's against the policy to cancel a contract before one year is up. He could have said his staff was wrong to tell us they would cancel his membership. Instead, he denied any responsibility, didn't care that my husband had specifically asked about the length of the contract, and was incredibly rude in the process.

I had been running and gym-ratting for months and was starting to get a little bored and restless, but I REALLY didn't want to lose my fitness streak. It really does feel as good as they say it does! Endorphins and shit! So I snagged a Living Social deal for a month of Bonstar's unlimited boot camp classes in the park. I just finished up my month and immediately bought another pack of classes because I am OBSESSED. I genuinely enjoy getting my ass kicked by these guys. My first class was on a Monday, my second on a Wednesday, and when I showed up for class on Friday, I was finally walking normally again. FOUR DAYS I hobbled around this city, while elderly women breezed past me up subway stairs. Keep in mind that I had been working out five days a week for months at this point, and figured I was in pretty decent shape. Turns out there were a whole lot of muscles I wasn't training. The camps use a lot of High Intensity Interval Training, so you might feel like your lungs will burst after only the first five minutes, but keep going! Sometimes the instructors will break out a med ball or resistance bands, but they use mostly your own body weight. Planks, bicycles, squats, lunges, and plyometric pushups are about to become your besties. BRING WATER. They suggest bringing gloves, which are definitely nice, but I never had any and I was fine. Leaving the park and sweaty and dirty and covered in grass made me feel like quite the badass. The instructors will push you HARD, but they're never ever mean or condescending and they always have a modification ready if you can't do something due to an injury. The website is easy to navigate, classes are a breeze to schedule, Bonnie (the owner) is super helpful and accomodating always just an email away, but most importantly, you will see RESULTS. I highly recommend Bonstar!!!

Bonnie is a wonderful trainer. She's created a boot camp workout that is motivational and…read moresupportive at the same time. She really has just the right balance. The workouts take place ("Shine Only") in Central Park, where you'll meet her and she'll get you warming up right away. After a quick jog, the routine starts in. Prepare to get sweaty and messy. It's a very intense and very quick hour you won't regret, especially after it's over! One more thing I liked; we were all at different fitness levels and it didn't matter. Everybody gets what they put into their workout with Bonnie. So, bring your gloves and your water. Things get pretty real.
