The workouts are different everyday and the right mix of strength and cardio. I like the boot camp format, in a group fitness setting and working out to music. It's a very clean gym with several personal bathrooms with showers. This fits into my life because of the type of workout and the childcare room. Prior to Burst! I was kind of a gym drifter. EOS, LA Fit, Planet Fit, Crunch Fit. I tried them all on for size. Didn't like them (nothing wrong with them, just didn't quite meet my needs). The search continued. I started deep-diving on the internet. There had to be an existing place out there that fit my needs right?? Over several months and consultations with private gyms in Tempe, Phoenix, and Scottsdale- Underground Fitness showed up on my radar. Leading up to my initial meeting with them, I was pretty deflated. Perfection is subjective- and I'd been looking for my version of a perfect fit for months and hadn't even come close. If I was going to join a gym at this point, I needed some convincing. But not in the typical gym-salesman pitch way. I needed to be bought-in. I needed to see the passion. The knowledge, the dedication, the practicing-what-you-preach. The ability to teach. I don't know maybe I'm a tough sell with unrealistic expectations *shrugs* My meeting went well. Ron was patient. I asked so many questions I made my own self tired. He didn't get tired. All of my reservations were addressed. I was satisfied. By the end of the meeting I could tell, this guy could seriously talk about this stuff all day. Passion: check. The program I selected felt like it would work with my schedule, the price was comfortable, and so far the customer service was on point. Ok...ok...willing to give these guys a chance. What's 9 weeks, am I right? That was in September 2019. It is now February 2020, 5 months later- I'm fully bought in. It did take some time to realize that this was the place for me, so I encourage readers of this review to keep that in mind. From my very beginning the team at Underground Fitness was communicative, invested in my success, flexible, creative, and believed in me more than I did. For those who I've worked with: Ron never blinked an eye when I needed to talk to him about absolutely anything at all (literally anything). Camille comes to my aide with worksheets, resources and meal ideas as I struggle with meeting my macros. She checks in on my off days, finger always on the pulse. She gently pushes me when I'm being a huge baby. She throws fun creative workouts our way, during which I can be observed smiling from ear to ear. They are so fun! The hour is over before I even know it! Daniel challenges every inch of air available in my lungs with creative circuits, helping me learn to use my body as an extension of myself. Teaching me how to stay grounded in my workouts (I can be super ADD). Each of them keeping a critical eye on form and technique. They are patient when I am low energy and have a sad workout. They are excited for me when I make progress. Even though these team members have spent years learning the fitness do's and don'ts for themselves, I never feel anything but encouraged when demonstrating my own lack of knowledge in nutrition and physiology. I haven't been at Bodi since the beginning but I have been a member for over 5 years and I definitely love that place! There are multiple options of classes that incorporate strength and cardio, yoga, heated mat Pilates and boxing (now Hyrox based class and straight lifting classes). They have expanded to 3 studios to offer all those classes, which is amazing! There's always a variety of exercises to hit the main muscles groups and the accessory muscle groups. The recovery room is super convenient to use after a class or on a rest day. Variety of class times to meet a large range of schedules. They truly value their members and community and are constantly finding ways to benefit the members even more. It can always be a little intimidating trying a new gym or class but I think they do a great job at trying to make everyone feel welcome & it's generally easy to follow along if feeling lost during a workout. The coaches bring so much energy & fun to the classes as well. Bodi is very affordable in comparison to other gyms (especially if you catch one of their sales around holidays). My only con so far is that, in my experience, the trainers haven't been very engaged with the class or offered much guidance on form. One of the things I love most about group fitness is when instructors hype up the room & shouting out members, offering motivation, or demoing the moves alongside the class instead of just in the beginning and I haven't really seen that yet. That said, the staff are all super friendly, the gym offers so much more than just strength training (which I'm excited to explore), and the playlists are a solid 10/10.
