Earlier this year, our gutters and front awning were damaged in a storm. I'm normally a DIY kind of person, but I've been suffering from a lack of mobility for the past year or so after a back injury, and found that I wasn't going to be able to get around to doing any kind of repair myself. We dreaded the cost, but bit the bullet and reached out to a few local contractors. These guys responded quick, came out quick for the initial assessment and quote, and gave us a reasonable price and timeframe for the work. A few other companies had comparable prices, several were much more expensive, but the professional communication from this team sold us. The job had to be rescheduled, at first, because of weather, and then again due to the unpredictable schedules that come with custom work, but they responded quickly to calls and e-mails, and kept us in the loop. Finally, the big day came, and during the course of setting up to work, they noticed some issues with our house's novel construction, especially with the way our roofers had not left much of an overhang with our drip edge and shingles. At first, we were worried this was going to turn into a much more expensive job, or that we'd have to start shopping around again, but were pleasantly surprised when the owner himself came out to take a look, with one of their more senior employees, who quickly identified a likely solution. Not only are they going forward with the job as soon as possible, but they're honoring their original quote despite the extra work and materials, partially to make up for the initial scheduling delays. A far better experience, so far, than being left in the dark by other companies we've worked with recently, and it's refreshing to have a company honor their own quote without sneaky fees, last-minute upselling, or bait-and-switch tactics even in the face of unforeseen complications. I'm impressed.

I told him I had something else I wanted to use which is the same thing I used in my living room when I remodeled it. He didn't listen and put quarter round and painted it. Completely doesn't match so it really looks like crap. They didn't get the floor smooth before putting down the new one. I have spots that are cutting through the new floor and ruining pieces of it. Did I mention the owner doesn't listen and does what he wants??? I also asked if they could nail a gutter that was falling off my house back up since they had all the tools at my house. He simply said yes. Never quoted a price or mentioned anything about money. SO I assumed it was a free quick fix. He charged my $75 for 8 nails and a guy using a nail gun. If he told me he was going to charge me I would of said no. I figured it would be something he would throw in for someone spending $15,000 to him. As for the deck I completely hate it. The rails are coming off and the storage is junk. The rails have been treated but they were not installed level and with only 1 screw on each side so they all look like waved U shapes. They put a little roof on the storage under the deck and it funnels water into the support beam which goes through the storage area. The water runs down the supports and floods the storage area. I guess sealing it from water wasn't important for them so my equipment would stay dry. It's already starting to rot from the inside. I have had stuff completely ruined because of this. Also, I asked about having my deck stained and he quoted me like $400. I passed and decided to do it myself. I finished about 60% of the deck and didn't have time to finish due to work. I called and asked him to come finish it. He called my back and quoted my $800 for the 40% I didn't finish. Ridiculous. He obviously didn't want to do it and should of just said so instead of making a ridiculous quote. Childish. I am thinking about tearing this deck down and having it rebuilt next year. That is how bad I hate it. Even some of the guys working on my house would talk about how bad this guy is when I would talk to them about it. I knew then I had a problem but since they were in the middle of a project I didn't think I could do anything about it.

Having previous history in the construction business, I am what one of my friends called "the customer that I would never want to work for." I know what to look for and am not afraid to point out flaws. Working with contractors in KY has been a nightmare. They never show up, never return calls, I have had them show up and borrow a tape measure because they didn't bring one, then not call back, etc. Bobby was opposite all of those things. Bobby was extremely friendly, professional, and responsive. He returned my calls and acted quickly when needed. His roofing subcontractor, Bull did an outstanding job on the roof. I have walked it three times looking for flaws. There are none. They identified problems and fixed them. There were no nails anywhere around the house when they walked away. The guys that work directly for Bobby are polite and trustworthy. I was never afraid to leave knowing that they were in our home. They did NOT do what many do: smoke just outside the door (leaving the smell in the house), leave paint all over our grass, or use foul language. I always say that in construction, the most gratifying jobs are the ones that look like you were never there. The work completed by Advanced Roofing and Construction are just that. They hung the ceiling properly, painted the walls sufficiently, caulked all the necessary places, and thoroughly cleaned the areas that necessitated it. I highly recommend Advanced Roofing and Construction.
