We took the Sea Bus over to North Vancouver to do a walking pub tour. First up we needed some lunch and Yelpers suggested the Gull. Thanks Yelpers! The Gull is the old neighborhood pub you with you had in your neighborhood. It was cozy but spacious at the same time, and these was an outdoor deck too. I think there were a dozen or so beers on tap. I can't go through the selections but even if I did it is likely to change by that time you go. I had a couple and they were fresh and tasty. I had the fish and chips because of course I did. The fish was crispy on the outside, moist and flakey on the inside. The fries were crispy as well. Overall exactly what you want in a fish and chips. Service was quick and friendly. The decor was old photos and maps of town which was interesting to me as a tourist. If I find myself in North Vancouver again I would stop in here again. read more

My first impression was wow, this is a 'hang out and grab some drinks' kind of vibe here There were a few groups here and everyone was having a great time We got the Gull Style burger ($22) and upgrade to Kale salad and the Animal Style burger ($21) with side of fries Their in- house ground Organic beef is typically served medium so the burgers are super juicy I wish the patty has a bit of a char to it. The burgers were a bit small and the fries were soggy The side salad upgrade was a good choice for $2 extra The serving staff made really good recommendations like when she recommended the Four Winds Citrus ale and it complimented well with the burger. A little hidden gem in North Vancouver. It's kind of out of the way on 1st street, just east of Lonsdale. They offer a small patio in the back, and lots of indoor seating. On Wednesday's they offer a free beer (2-3 to choose from) with the purchase of a beef burger. I ended up getting a couple of appies - the ceviche was my favorite, and a couple of entrees - the jerk chicken was my favorite. I will be back to try some other items! I hope that they're able to offer more gluten friendly items in the future (a gluten free bun for the burger would be amazing)! read more

Well we were in Vancouver and had just spent the day driving to Whistler. It's about a 4 hour ride round trip from where we were staying. After a long day of driving and site seeing we were hungry & thirsty. Having never been to North Vancouver before I relied on Yelp for a watering hole with good food. The bar was set high for me, as I usually recommend great dining establishments with the crowd I was with and it had been a long day. After some trouble finding parking we approached the restaurant. Upon first glance my party looked at me and asked really? This is the spot you picked for dinner. I admit I was skeptical. The exterior leaves little to be desired. Everyone was tired and second guessing my suggestion. Then we walked in and the ambience was on point. We were seated quickly and our waitress came over to take our much needed drink order. They had a great selection of local beer, a wide variety of mixed drinks, as well as a deep selection of bourbon and whiskey (a welcome surprise to an American in Canada). After our libations we ordered food. Nothing crazy just some top notch burgers and an order of salmon. Food was on point. Drinks were great and service was over the top. monthly office admin (i'm the unofficial admin) grp gathering - in which julia effs up and forgot someone. i apologized and now owe her a drink lol. this was the cutest little bar on the north shore. def a cozy, family owned/restaurant. we were greeted nicely and led to our table super quick - vax passports were obvsly checked. our server - who i didn't catch the name of - was very helpful and informative with the menu. i mean i ALWAYS check the menu out beforehand but i usually change my mind again when i'm at the restaurant. in terms of drinks, i had 3 - weekly cocktail, st. george soda and the apple a day. the latter was the rum-based and the rest were ofc gin-based (you guys should know this by now). the weekly cocktail was very tropical - pineapple flavour def popped and the bar was nice enough to take the cucumber out as per my request (yes i'm one of those weird that don't like cucumber in my gin - bite me). st. george soda was light and refreshing - the lemon and soda was main flavour profile in that drink. as for apple a day, it's rum and apple - best combo ever. out of the 3, i would say that st. george soda was my fav. now for food, i had the gull style burger with spicy fries (yes our server said there were substitutions and naturally i went for it). the burger are handmade in-house (a's burger was over-seasoned due to this...?) and they were grilled nicely - juicy inside for mine and perfectly seasoned. the brie and caramelize onions - the perfect sweet savoury combo. the spicy fries def has a kick so if you're not one for spice, stick with the normal fries. another shout-out to the staff again because i had a box of outside treats that i bought into the restaurant. they could have said something abt it but didn't, and they were so kind to give me a knife and plate (plus napkins!) when i needed to divvy the goodies up. local, family-owned business that julia will most likely pop in again! read more

I was here with my friend last weekend and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised how delicious their beef burger was. I'm not a huge fan of beef burgers, but they didn't have alternative, so I thought I'll give it a try and I was glad I did. Best burger I've had! We also ordered side of the spicy fries and they were very tasty as well. The only thing was, the menu is not very extensive and we kinda missed a little decoration on the table (maybe a candle?) while sitting on the patio, but service was excellent, so that is a very small details. Wish I wasn't driving, so I could have a beer with my burger. Next time :) Oh and they gave us a wine bottle filled with water, so we pretended we had wine. I thought that was very clever. read more

What a great find! After a day spent driving up to Whistler, we decided to find a great burger and relax while traffic cleared. Service was friendly and very attentive. I had the Lonsdale Lemonade and it was scrumptious - so happy I wasn't the driver. We split the scallop appetizer and it was so flavorful with a wonderful romesco sauce, chorizo, and almonds. Just try it - my description doesn't do it justice. We also shared the Gull burger, which was juicy and flavorful and served with fresh cut French fries. That wins my heart right away. The Gull is as genuine as they come! An old dive turned into a sweet updated cozy hang out, with organic food, a kickass burger, great beer, and staff members who grew up together. A favourite new local of mine with classy sailor vibes and a great back story. The chef shops for provisions at the local farmer's markets, beers are from local micro breweries, and some classic imports. TVs for sports and a full bar for the posh cocktails! The service here is great and the place is newly renovated. They have one part of the restaurant/pub that is a good area for people with young children. There are plenty of other spots for other patrons; it's good that they have two sections separated from each other. Happy hour is a good time for $5 beer or house wine along with a selection of appies. When we went, there were a few too many deep fried happy hour foods. I've been wanting to try this newly improved restaurant. I have to say I was very impressed. I had to try The Gull burger and have to say it was honestly the best burger I ever had. Why? Well first of all flavour, second of all juicy, but holds together perfect in its tasty bun. Anyways I have heard the drinks are great but unfortunately I got take out so I couldn't experience that part of the restaurant. Next time I go have a sit down dinner with friends or family it will be at The Gull. So give it a try, I'd highly recommend it! read more

Love this place! Great service, exquisite cocktails, and top notch food. We have been there half a dozen times in the past few months and have had a wonderful dining experience every time. There is a rustic, farm to table feel about this place, with seasonal food and an eclectic drink menu. Their dishes are presented beautifully, and we have yet to order something we did not deem as downright delicious. Our favorites include the bay scallops with chorizo, braised pork shoulder with crispy polenta, and the drool-worthy Gull-style burger. If you want a light cocktail order the St. George Soda or the Gulltini, and for something that packs a wallop, try Clockwork Orange. We brought my parents here from out of town and they absolutely loved it! The Gull is a great place to dine solo, bring a date, or a small group. I'm looking forward to my next meal there! read more

Here on work from the Florida doing some work at the ShipYard, Happen to see this on Yelp thought I would give it a try. I was Craving a Burger. I go in sit at the bar, it was just me figured I wouldn't take a table. The bartender said they didn't have any Burgers (I was Bummed) pretty much only thing he said to me word to me the entire time I was there. Wasn't really a deal breaker. I Order the Steak which was $29 Canadian which costs a lot more when I'm paying with American Money around $40. He was talking to other bar patrons about misc... it was guy with a beard. Female Bartender brings my meal and looks great and gives me a small thing of ketchup. This Guy stops 1 time when I first get it to ask how it was. I Was only two bites in. Yes, it was Delicious! I Do Recommend the Ribeye. I needed more ketchup, neither one of them looked or asked how I was. Seems like if you order a alcohol Beverage you get the attention. But since I was drinking water not a priority. Wasn't until he gave me my bill he actually asked a question he should have asked when I first got there. I spent good money at this establishment and he never even asked my name. Guess I'm use to Better Service in the States. Yes, I still left over 10 percent tip but so didn't want to. For my entire life, I have been a Burger Lover. My quest, while travelling, is to find The Best Burger. Well, I have found it, in my own area. The Gull has two types of burger, Animal Style, and Gull Style. I am very old school with my burgers, so I chose the Animal Style. I can't say enough about this burger! It was so juicy and delicious. The bun was perfect, and I loved the shredded lettuce. You can have it with fries, or salad. I chose fries, and they were so good. The atmosphere at The Gull Bar & Kitchen is great, and the staff is amazing. I would highly recommend this place, for food, drinks, and their great happy hour! read more

We planned a walking vacation to Vancouver and stayed at a Lower Lonsdale apartment just steps away from this pub. From the other reviews, I see that it was newly renovated and it shows! Squeaky clean but still with nice vibe. Lots of locals (Fantasy Football crews), a few big screens to keep up with the games, but not so loud that you can't enjoy a conversation- and isn't that what going to a pub is all about. Nice selection of local and craft beers...and the happy hour menu was a pleasant surprise! Best fresh and juicy burgers around- give the cooks a shout out! read more

I've been going to The Gull since they changed their menu and reno'd the interior and the outside! It no longer looks like The former Rusty Gull which it needed an update. I've been around on the north shore probably as long as it was known as the Rusty Gull. Which was a typical pub back then with okay beer and an okay menu. When a neighbour asked if I've been there since the remodel, I replied no, and said it's the same place just a new look, right? She said no, not just s new look, but new chef and new menu and great food! So we went for dinner like the next day. I was surprised how bright and modern the interior looked now and love the patio. My neighbour recommended the burger and fries, and so I ordered their house ground burger and fries, called animal style! Lettuce, tomato, American cheese and sauce on a perfectly cooked and seasoned burger on a toasted brioche bun! Omg it's so juicy and tasty and the fries are abundant, hot and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Lol I'm afraid I'm so hooked on the burger, I haven't tried anything else on the new menu! I will be trying different items as we head into fall, I promised myself. Their selection of beer, from other small batch breweries, is great compared to their old menu too. It's kinda the perfect spot within walking distance for anyone living in lower Lonsdale! Great food, lame service On our first visit my boyfriend had the Gull burger and absolutely loved it. He says best burger ever. I had the carrots dish and bread since I wanted vegetarian and light, it was excellent but I definitely understand the al acarte items would be better shared. Second visit my bf had the burger again, and I tried the grains and thangs. The food was perfect, and I thought the flavours were excellent, props to the kitchen. The service was disappointing. I felt it was rude and uninviting to return. We weren't drinking, he had a coke and I just drank water. Never was offered refills and had our meal without water or coke to drink. We never had a checkup on our food. When our plates were cleared I was able to ask for a refill and it came 2 minutes later close to when we want to leave. We were not offered a dessert menu. And we sat there un attended for 10 minutes. Many servers passed with no eye contact. Finally a different server took our payment and she was nice. read more

(The best day to do this is Wednesday if you're just wanting to enjoy a lager or pale ale) I'm usually there for one of their rotating taps. Never disappointed and the waitresses are ON THE BALL. I used to love this place. It used to have a warm friendly atmosphere with good food and live music on the weekends. The renovation has ruined this place. It is now cold, uninviting, poorly laid out and the acoustics are now absolutely terrible. It is so noisy now you can barely carry on a conversation. The interior designer should have been fired for such a bad job. The previous decor while old was much better and you could even have a conversation when the band was playing only a few feet away. The menu now sucks. There was not a single thing I wanted to order. With a bad menu and now no live music and bad acoustics I will never be going back to this pub again.
