I was expecting it to be around $25. It was my mistake to not ask ahead of time but haircuts aren't even this expensive in Manhattan. My experience at the Grumpy Barbers, particularly with Matt, was utterly disappointing. Despite arriving 15 minutes early for my appointment and finding his chair empty (something that should have warned me about what was to come), Matt rushed through my haircut in less than 15 minutes. He didn't even bother to brush off the copious amounts of hair that ended up on my face and shoulders. To add insult to injury, Matt didn't show me the back of my head before sending me out the door. It wasn't until I got home that I discovered the disastrous outcome of his supposed haircutting skills. The sides and back of my head resembled a poorly mowed lawn, with glaringly uneven patches that made it look like he attempted to carve a topographical map rather than give a standard haircut. Please see the photo of my "haircut" if you don't believe me. The nape of my neck was no exception to this butchery; the hairline was so uneven that I had no choice but to immediately schedule an emergency fix with a competent barber elsewhere. To my dismay, when I mentioned Grumpy Barbers to my new barber, she shared her own experience of having to clean up after Matt's handiwork. This only confirmed my suspicions that my case wasn't an isolated incident. Save yourself the hassle and avoid the Grumpy Barbers at all costs. Believe the one-star reviews on the internet; they are a testament to the consistent disappointment and incompetence that unfortunately defines this establishment. read more

Matt has been cutting my hair for a couple of years, and I am a faithful patron because he is a skilled barber and has a personable manner. Matt takes his time with his clients. He does not rush them in and out of his chair; instead, Matt wants to be certain that you are pleased with your result. He treats his work like a craftsman or an artist, which is evident in the consistent results he achieves. I recommend his services without reservation, and I suspect you will be pleased with your visit Matt Martin's chair. read more

My son Brian, a young adult, has autism and has some sensory issues, so getting a haircut can be a bit challenging. We've been going to the Grumpy Barber for years and Matt has always done a great job. Brian now sees Teresa and she has been terrific. She continually asks Brian for feedback and listens and pays close attention to every detail. Teresa is a perfectionist, personable and very skilled.
