The Grind Cafe is a refreshing change of pace from the typical coffee shops we have all come to expect. It has been one of my mainstay locations whenever I visit Racine and I have dropped by early in the morning when driving to Chicago (as early as 6:45 am), in addition to the more common situation, a Saturday or Sunday morning for a pick up or to catch up on some work. The location is large and has plenty of seating for groups and those doing work. My main drink is the iced mocha which is bold and not overly sweet (has a richer taste) and the espresso used include local roasters like Anodyne. In addition, they offer a loyalty card for multiple visits. I look forward to continuing to visit and supporting a nice local coffee shop.

Question: What should you do if your town has both a Starbucks and a super awesome, locally owned, personality oozing, top quality latte making cafe that displays and sells the wares of local artists all with outlets, free wifi and the kindest owners and workers on the planet? Yeah, you go to the Grind Cafe. To those who answered correctly you get an A+ on your paper and get to skip the final. To the rest of you... SMH.

Breakfast scramble. Ask about the "secret" breakfast menu :)

Great paninis. Homemade bakery/quiche, delicious coffee choices, (Anodyne - BayView, Milwaukee) reasonable prices. It's nice to support local businesses. Try the breakfast in a cup (meal replacement) smoothie! And ask about the breakfast menu. Also keep in mind that any drink can be made decaf, hot, cold, or blended as a frappe. And they have more flavor options than what's listed on the board!

Super fruit smoothie with added greens, plus a dark roast. Both were tasty.

Cute little place, I appreciated them adding greens to my superfruit smoothie since I'd been traveling and didn't have access to my usual daily smoothie. Also, they were super sweet to my 3-year-old and even had a table of toys for her to play with.

They use beans from Anodyne, who I had never heard of before (usually it's stone creek or Anodyne around MKE).

I add in a touch of cream to tie it all together for a perfect coffee. Iced Latte with Whole Milk-That drink is pure perfection! It has notes of milk chocolate, caramel, and toasted coconut. They make the official Wisconsin state pastry - The Kringle, a 36 layer oval pastry that takes days to make, I've had this & it's wonderful. For this occasion I ordered online & had delivered an Almond Custard Seven Sister Coffee Cake. The coffee cake was yummy. It's a classic Danish pastry made into seven rolls - rich, buttery & flaky with a smooth almond custard filling topped with a sweet glaze & almonds. From their website they say, " this coffee cake is named from a prominent constellation of stars that the Danish sailors used for seafaring navigation". The coffee cake made for a delicious breakfast & a great treat!

I saw it as a new seasonal flavor that could be ordered for delivery right up until my birthday. The only problem I was running into was that my wife was giving up sweets again for Lent, which was starting before my birthday. Rather than saving her a frozen piece until Easter, or not sharing it with her at all, I scheduled it to be delivered today, a Friday, so we could enjoy it over this weekend. Now the only question is whether it will even make it to the weekend. I don't know how to explain how delicious it is other than to say the flavor of the chopped pecans on top along with a blended sprinkling of coarse salt and sugar are just an introduction to your palate in preparation for you to next enjoy the caramel filling oozing out of your warmed slice. Or should I say SLICES? You know you can't stop at just one. Oh, so good. I hope this new flavor will return for years to come.

It is definitely less sweet, and very pineapple forward. My only remark is that I wish I could taste the passionfruit and more of the coconut. But, I'm biased as passionfruit is my favorite fruit.
