I wanted soul food today. Just my luck The Grille House was just across the street from my hotel. I walked in just before 5pm and it was almost empty. Just perfect. My server was Tera. Friendly and helpful. I knew that I wanted the catfish but not sure of the sides. Tera went over every side for me. I settled on candid yams. As I waited for my catfish to be cooked, I looked over all the jersey memorabilia they had from various sports teams and fraternities. This place gets super busy I was told. Thursday nights they have karaoke starting at 5pm. My catfish order came out. It had buttery grilled toast as a side, topped with lettuce and tomatoes. I'm a southern girl, I only needed the Fish and bread. The fish was perfectly season. All I needed to add was some hot sauce. OH My Gosh- Delish As I say enjoying my meal, old school R&B was playing. I truly enjoyed the serenity of my dinner. I'll definitely be back when I'm in Albany GA in the near future. read more

The cooks, although I didn't get their names, my food was perfect, the pork chop, collard greens (bam)! I saw reviews about the french fry because they are cut and frozen. But the cooks knew how to season them perfectly. I don't know if it was the southern charm, or the southern hospitality of the staff, the DJ and the patrons, but we could not have picked a better place to celebrate this monumental quest. This was my first time visiting Albany Georgia. We saw this place and had to stop in. It was such a great experience. We were greeted by Cynthia who I found out later was the owner and she invited us to sit at the bar and I am so glad we did. Cynthia made us great suggestions about the menu and even better suggestions about drinks. I had to try the bald headed ho shit (a drink on the menu) and it came with a great story. The drink was amazing and so was all the food we tried. Make sure to ask about how the name of the drink came about. I can't wait to go back and I do hope we get the pleasure of chatting with Cynthia again she made it such a fun experience. read more

A friend checked this spot out after a long walk. I always see it going through downtown Albany. They have a regular menu and soul food menu. Both went for the regular and got a single burger and fries. It was very fresh and tasty. Both the burger and fries. Service was great and fast. Also got our food fast too. This spot is a GEM! The chicken wings are crunchy and seasoned to perfection. My favorite flavor is lemon pepper. I wouldn't go anywhere else in Albany for wings. Soul Food in the heart of downtown Albany, GA - just a block from the Ray Charles Plaza (wow -- worth the stroll across the street to enjoy that riverside space!) and on a block with all sorts of nifty things to do and to visit and to eat and to enjoy... and wow - everything about this place it is great! We ate lunch in the main little dining area - an unpretentious down home style setting with booths and tables. There is also a bar room, a small conference / concert space, outdoor seating space with a mega grill and out door bar, and so much more. The staff is friendly and helpful... And yes - the food is delicious. We had catfish filet (meaty and crispy and breaded and fried to perfection), the bone in wings (huge! with an array of sauces), fried shrimp (huge and lightly breaded and crispy fried), and fries (crispy, though not their standout item). Sundays they offer a buffet bar. They also have specials - like Wing Wednesday. Prices are fair. Service and setting is simple and just the home type feeling that makes life so amazing and enjoyable. We went to the Aquarium on Saturday and found this great restaurant. We all ordered different things. I had fried green tomatoes (so so yummy) and pulled pork sandwich with their sweet potato fries, just the best ever. My daughter had their nachos and they were really good and a huge serving. A friend had the shrimp, they are huge and really tasty, and also had their wings and said they were the best he had had. One had a hamburger another nachos and one the ribs and the ribs were to die for we were told. Honestly such a great find on a Saturday and we all enjoyed ourselves so much and we had the best waitress also. Just an all around amazing experience. read more

The owner's dismissal of our concerns regarding the quality of the food is why we'll never go back! She didn't address our concerns and she was sitting at a table about 10 feet away! Worse - much worse, we witnessed a waitress literally brought to tears because of how the owner spoke to her!!! If this is indicative of how the employees are treated, it's safe to assume the food, service and overall experience will suffer. There are so many other options within a very short distance. We deserve better. We can do better. read more

The Grille house sounds like someplace that might specialize in grilled food. Nope. Fried and greasy. I think this place could be a shiny spot in that part of Albany which could use it, but I think they would need to go in an entirely different direction from the decor to the menu. Well we walked in at 7 on a Tuesday...and there was no one there. We looked at a menu and even though the waiter was very nice, I told him we thought we'd try someplace else. He said wait a minute and found a different menu go the adjoining restaurant, and was too nice to say no to. I ended up thanking him for persuading us to stay. I had a huge bowl of three meat jambalaya, my wife had a very nice, large pulled pork sandwich and killer sweet potato fries. Chunky and crispy waffle cut fries. My son had a yummy, melty chicken panini and his girlfriend had a chicken quesadilla she really liked. So the place does more of a lunch business but that's a shame. We were passing through Albany on a trip, and we were so happy to discover this restaurant! Many other places in town were closed for Sunday lunch, but the Grille House was open AND had their special Sunday menu! We enjoyed a delicious spread of southern food. As my father said, "I have been eating soul food all my life, and this is one of the best meals I've ever had. Not only was the chicken cooked perfectly, but every single side dish, from the yams and fried cornbread to the iced tea and apple pie, was DELICIOUS. Horrible customer service. Drinks are made with a premix that contains bottom shelf alcohol, even if you order a premium drink, the premium alcohol is added to the premix, which ultimately makes your drink BOTTOM SHELF. I ordered, honey cajun wings, the owner brought out wings with hot sauce on them, cajun is NOT hot sauce! She also refused to fix my order or provide a refund. Great vibes & never had issues but Sun. I waited about 20min. for my carryout of oxtails. You charge me the tip on top of the oxtails being overprice for the small amount. Total being 23.46 for maybe 1 oxtail piece together & a half. I waited to long for food that was already prepared In the kitchen or on the bar & you tip yourselves on a carryout order..... Stayed in Albany for the weekend. The grille house was by the hotel so decided to check it out. I don't know if I was hungry but they had some of the best chicken wings I'd ever had. my boyfriend and I came back the next day for more. The staff was so friendly and had great personalities.
