Although the restaurant looks comfortable, I did not feel at ease as I usually like waiters being around and being helpful but in Paprika it felt as though they were trying to speed us through our meal. Not deliberately rude but disinterested until they could see you were near the end of the meal when they'd ask several times should they take our plates away. The food was not great, the meat was tough and lacked any moisture. The sauce was very thick and very different to what I was expecting. Either a restaurant is good or bad, I don't sit on the fence. It's either someone I want to and look forward to going to or one I will avoid. This falls into the latter category. The very low marks come due to the hygiene, dirty uncleaned cutlery with dried food on which we had to get replaced followed by glasses which had lip marks on it. No apology just a shrug and ok, it happens (well, I would hope not!) I would think they take things like this more seriously but management just seem apathetic By all means, worth a try if you are curious but any expectations of a decent meal should be left at home. Try, forget and avoid was what I was told beforehand and now I am just another advocate.

That's not to say it was terrible but I found it nothing more than average. I did really want a good meal and it was not what I got. Perhaps, I have been spoiled with choice. Nothing compared to what you get at Kutis in Southampton anyway.

I got the last space, but I couldn't see if overflow parking was available. The appetisers were very good and beautifully presented. The duck that my friend had looked wonderful. Our main courses were very good. The cod was lovely and the steaks were nice. My steak was a little fatty and I found the gristle very chewy on the end piece. I also like my triple cooked chips a little more crispy, but that's just my taste. The desserts were lovely and again beautifully presented. The ginger cake with chocolate mousse and the ganache plate were particularly good. The table next to us has the beef wellington and I would definitely order that if I went again. It looked phenomenal! Overall a lovely experience.

This restaurant excels at everything it seems..what a delight!…read more - Beautiful indoor and outdoor seating - Perfect service, attentive but not too much - Small thoughtful extras - Excellent food - Very well priced Came in for lunch. Had the 3 course lunch menu for £38 (what a steal!). Lamb belly for starter was delicious, well seasoned and put together dish. Mains I tried the pork collar which was very good but the house made black pudding was phenomenal, best I have ever had..inventively spiced, wish I could buy a kilo to take home. Dessert was fig leaf panna cotta, light and flavoursome. Had a coffee with dessert which was also excellent. Its very clear that they try to do everything to the best standard possible. Wish I lived closer.

(I may be a veggie but it doesn't mean I love lettuce leaves!) So when my friends planned Sunday lunch in The Cowshed I sighed a heavy sigh. But I had nothing to fear - with two vegetarian options on the lunch time menu, at least I had something to choose from (Albeit a standard veggie burger or a goats cheese tart - two 'classics') and since this was a restaurant for meat eaters I could hardly complain! My burger was delicious, served with tasty chunky chips and washed down with hearty cider. My friend's roast dinners looked fabulous too. The service was very welcoming and the atmosphere was just what you want on a Sunday - full of fun and laughter.

While The Cowshed's poster mammal isn't smiling it still tickles me so I agreed to dinner here with my steak loving other half. The focus here is all about good old-fashioned British dishes, particularly steak and it's many guises. My partner ordered a steak cooked on a hot stone tablet right in front of him - similar to the way you can get hot plates in Indian restaurants, except this actually allowed him to partially cook the steak himself. As an occasional vegetarian there wasn't a great amount of choice for me to pick a main course but the starters and desserts were divine! It is quite pricey but I would come back for the chocolate mouse alone and my partner can whole-heartedly vote for the sirloin steak!

I do remember the food being very good and one of my first experiences of proper food. Since the new owners took over, the standards have only gone up. They've kept their AA Rosette by sticking to good, locally sourced food done without too much fuss. I took my staff here for the annual post-Christmas meal. The place is favoured by older folk and the setting always reminds me of being in someone's lounge rather than a restaurant. The building is essentially just another old cottage in the village which has been converted into a restaurant, which brings it's own charm with low ceilings and exposed wood. It also comes across as fairly unpretentious. We chose from the set menu which was £25 or so for three courses. Nicely balanced menu, which is always good when you have a choice of 4 for each course - it makes decisions easy as well. The restaurant was fairly full by the time our food came, and the service was always pretty slick but relaxed enough for a Sunday lunch. Everyone enjoyed their meal, washed down with a few bottles of the house wine - a very respectable Sauvignon Blanc. In summary, a decent place. Probably slightly above the average in terms of cost for the area (especially for a village), but it's definitely worth it. Especially when you consider how many times I've paid that much and had a very average meal.

Exquisite food! Decor a little dated but it didn't deter. A truly special experience!read more
