Anyway, on my trek I came across this pub and I have to say that it was pretty cool. Okay, it was around noon so it was pretty quiet but that generally suits me pretty well (especially when it comes to suburban pubs). Well, the first thing I checked out was the beer garden and it was pretty impressive. The main bar itself was also pretty nice, especially all the wooden panelling - it still had the charm of the old style pub. Okay, it had your typical sports bar and VIP lounge, but that is generally expected. Oh, there was also a room called the library which, as is expected, was a library, but it also contained a pool table - which was pretty cool in itself.

The staff are always friendly and welcoming but our recent dinner was far from good. It was flavourless. We asked for everything to come at once as we were only having an entree and side salad. Instead the side salads came out after the entree. It was a very odd eating experience. The salt and pepper squid had no spice what so ever, it was bland and the coating was doughy so all i could taste was raw flour. It was presented on a large, over dressed salad with the aioli over it making it soggy and to top it off, it was cold. The bread was hard and had only the merest whiff of garlic. Very disappointing..thank goodness the wine and company saved the evening. Quick update - having been through my receipts from the weekend, I have just noticed that we were not charged a handling fee when in the restaurant but when we went downstairs to the bar, I was charged 1%. Both payments were made with paypass / debit card and I absolutely was not told there was a surcharge for using my card in the bar. While I do not agree with businesses passing on merchant fees generally, at the very least, I expect if they do that they advise their patrons so they can make an informed decision on whether to use their card or use cash.....3 days on from my visit and even less happy. might be my local, but will not be returning (reduced rating from 2 to 1 star as a result of this)

The menu is a little more exciting than your standard pub fare. With an American inspired menu, including some pimped out burgers. They have a 1kg pot of mussels as an ongoing special, ranging between $10-$15 dollars, with a choice of sauce and differing spice levels; lemon and pepper, cajun and if you like it hot, the spicy Korean Chilli. We opted for the medium spice level, which was a tasty cajun sauce. Speaking of Cajun, the fried Jalepeno poppers were a great starter and an even better share plate. They were huge and used fresh Jalepenos that weren't too spicy. But you must try the burgers. The dry aged t-bone burger is not only a cool looking burger with a T-bone as a crown, it was also super tasty. The use of the t-bone making this a fancy cheese burger with a nicely spiced, freshly ground meat patty, American cheese, ketchup, mustard, onion and fried onion for some crunchy texture. Due to the quality cut of meat used it's a little pricey at $19, but well worth it as it is a delicious burger. They were also advertising a Wagyu beef burger for $16, which seems like pretty good value. The Burwood Hotel has a nice comfortable modern dining space with friendly staff. They have also added a bit of excitement with some great American menu options, whilst still catering to those who love those pub classics. It is well worth a visit for a drink and a feed with friends.

The recently refurbished establishment isn't the type of place you would want to spend all day in, but it has its charms, and in my opinion, is a lot better than some of the other pubs around Concord (but then again, that isn't saying much!). Facilities offered at Hotel Concord include: * TAB * Bottle-shop * Accommodation- rooms start from $60 for a single room, up to $160 for the family room (four single beds, one sofa bed). * Reasonably priced bistro meals (the $11 Big Beef Burger is pretty good). * Fox and Sky channels * Juke box * Public phone (how rare are those nowadays?) * EFTPOS facilities ($20 minimum) and an A.T.M. * Hotel shuttle boat offering transport between Cabarita and Circular Quay. * Wednesday Night Trivia from 7pm onwards. * Thursday Night Poker from 5pm-9pm. $2000 prize money. * Pokies

Drinking there has gotten so boring, on Saturday the 20th December a few days before Christmas, there was 3 people in the whole of the 2 bars, i left at 7.30 & went to another pub, not the first time i've had to do this, Staff, seems to change every week, without a word of a lie, some of them, we the customers have to show them how to pour a beer, if you want to cash in any of your winnings from the horses, they run around looking for a staff member who can operate the tote machine, if you need them to change a t.v station, i'ts a nightmare, only about 2 weeks ago in them doing so, they blacked out everything. While the staff are tidy, for some reason have no people skills, hard to mingle with only 3 i understand, but on the rare time there is a small crowd, no intermingling, Unlike other pubs they do not offer you member discounts, no interests in any horse/football punting club, no raffles, nothing. The Welcome's wedges, rather than being coated, are just straight-up potato, as a perfect wedge should be. I'm assuming they are twice-fried to achieve the crispitty, crunchitty, golden brown outside and the soft, creamy, volcanically-hot inside. Why 4 stars, you might say? They give you rather small dishes of sweet chilli and sour cream for your dipping pleasure. I always run out of sweet chilli about halfway through my mountain of crispy, potatoe-y goodness. I then have to embarrass myself by waiting patiently in the food-buying queue before sweetly holding out the empty dish and asking rather sheepishly for more sweet chilli from the always friendly and accommodating staff. And no, it's never crossed my mind to just eat the wedges sans sauce. Condiments on wedges like this are worth more than your self esteem. Oh yea, and the bar's pretty nice too :) Very pub-like without being too old-mannish, with a nice garden. BF says they have some of the best Guinness in Sydney. Wedges and Guinness- what more could a Irish-pub-loving Yelper want?

Let me just start with....... wow…read more I frequently dine around Sydney and find that people have already written reviews that are so perfect there is no need for me to write the same thing once again. However based on my 5 star experience I had to share. I had a friend in town from America who is vegan and we wanted to take her out for dinner. Trying to find something in the inner west that was not Thai or Chinese was near impossible. Then I stumbled across Harvest. I read a few previous reviews and saw an urbanspoon rating of 84% and thought to give it a go. As we approached the restaurant in a quiet street in Rozelle we remembered we forgot our wine as the restaurant is BYO. We walk in the door and are happy to learn Harvest is also fully licensed :) Adam, the owner/chef (yes because we actually met and talked to the owner) was absolutely delightful. We learnt that Adam has been at harvest for 17 years and his passion clearly shows. He even has his own cook book which can be purchased from the restaurant. We of course made a purchase and will attempt to make some of the wonderful meals!! I only hope we can do it justice! eeek! There were 5 of us at dinner (only 1 vegan/vegetarian) and EVERYONE was satisfied. Meat was not missed by us carnivores. We dined on tapas with AMAZING fresh made dips, rice paper rolls, feta parcels for our entree and savoury mushroom pancake stack, lasagna with mozzarella, spinach and kumara gnocchi for our spectacular main and 1 of the boys was even able to squeeze in sticky date pudding for dessert. The wine was flowing and the experience was perfect. All up our bill came to about $250 and included 4 bottles of wine! And we were all soooooo full! The atmosphere of this restaurant reminds me of a place called Jacques-Imo's Café in New Orleans (one of my all-time favourite restaurants). Its open, fresh, quaint and if you're lucky enough you may even catch a glimpse of the beautiful Paris who lives nearby!! Can't tell you anymore. Guess you will have to try it for yourself! Who thought vegetables could be so fun?!
