A more fancy pub with a tasty menu to match. This place is pretty big they have the locals style pub downstairs with the pokies and then the botanical garden inspired bistro upstairs with carpet to match! Delicous tasty cocktails (try the passion martini). From salt & pepper squid, fish cakes and peking duck spring rolls - you know the mains will be good. We got to try their popular beef ribs! So good - good sauce content and went well with the coleslaw! Good atmosphere and great meals too!

Love coming here for a drink as my sister lives so close. Great to take the kids for lunch as well. I've had the fish and chips before and they were nice. At my last visit got some tapas to share. The meatballs were SO expensive and a really small serve. The fish cakes were nice not traditional at all but still nice. I also like the fat chips.

    It's a punch bowl!

We went here when I won the 4 dinner pass from Yelp to check out their new digs... There's a sweet entrance next door to the actual pub that's coloured in sky blues and stairs leading upstairs. Follow the stairs and then at the top turn right to be seated. We asked for outside seats as it was a beautiful spring day and we wanted to enjoy the evening. Being that there were 4 of us we decided that we would rather order a few plates from the entrees to the mains and split them so we all got to taste what was on offer. The staff were lovely and accommodating to our rather unusual set up. And OH EM GEE y'all! They have PUNCH BOWLS of booze. Er. I mean. Cocktails. PUNCH BOWLS. And they have these wee flowers inside them that are PERFECT for a spring day. It was light, summery and went down a treat. We loved our punch bowl and so did all the diners around us. I'm pretty sure they thought were must be the local lushes! The lamb chops were rather tasty, a bit on the fatty side but we enjoyed them. The steak was also rather yum. We had the prawn dumplings, duck spring rolls and a salad to even the mix out. Everything went down a treat. If you are looking for a nice pub dinner then this place will fit the bill rather nicely. The outside balcony area has fans for summer and heaters for winter so either way you should be comfortable outside. The local birds zoom up and down the street yelling their joy at flying so you even have entertainment. Would I go there again? Yeah, it was a decent meal for a decent price and the balcony was lovely to sit outside on during the warm evening. Thanks Yelp for a lovely night out! We all enjoyed ourselves!

A very, very welcome addition to Marrickville. It's a pub you actually want to spend time in!…read more They've done a good job with the layout. It's large, spacious, very open-feeling. There are stools at high tables, lower ones for small and large groups, and lounge-y low chairs and tables in the back if you want a bit more seclusion. Everything's still very new and clean, and is a mix of industrial/shabby-chic (think old luggage trunks for tables, glued-together Jenga blocks for menu holders, and tin buckets for your cutlery). Parts of it seem almost trying a bit too hard to be funky, but it's not overbearing. The food is mostly familiar pub items (schnitzel, burger, fish and chips) but with a few nice additions. The pulled pork roll is excellent. And their chips are delicious across the board, with lots of rosemary salt making them a cut above the average. They have lunch specials. They often have live music in the evenings. Their wine menu is small but better than pub average (Mudgee barbera, anyone? Yes please!). The only thing I find a bit annoying is that they have segregated counter areas for ordering food and drinks. I'm kinda disappointed to be leaving Marrickville now that the Ritz is here.

Met up with friends for a kid friendly spot to catch a glimpse of the kiwi vs lions match a couple…read moreof weeks back, while sampling what looked to be good looking food courtesy of Chicken & Son. The place was reasonably busy but we still managed to secure a good spot for the crew and ordered up the food. I chose the jerk 1/4 chicken with the slaw 'n order (kale, cabbage & sprout slaw, caper, cornichon, fine herb & mustard vinaigrette), a serve of beer battered chips, and for the kids the chicken tenders. Others also got the jerk chicken with different sides. The jerk chicken did not have much kick to it which was disappointing, and the portion size and presentation seemed to vary to my friends. On to the slaw, which was not really a slaw at all, big leaves of kale (my least favourite green - google 'kale and coconut oil meme'), on a large bed of acidic, vinegary capers and cornichons - not my idea of a nice cabbage shredded 'slaw. The beer battered chips were rejected as way too salty by everyone, including the kids which love salt usually, so they were sent back for replacement. Which left the kid chicken tenders, which were fine if you like hot 'n' spicy (me = yes, kids = so no). I mentioned that when returning the chips and was advised they use the same seasoned coating as the chicken in the burgers, so yea, kids [spicy] tenders. The service was great. Am hoping I was just unlucky on the night with the food choices made. Also hoping I'm wrong in wondering if the Chicken & Son crew are trying too hard with the hipster menu or are simply not executing properly in the kitchen, and resulting in letting down what is actually a half decent pub.
