A very, very welcome addition to Marrickville. It's a pub you actually want to spend time in!…read more They've done a good job with the layout. It's large, spacious, very open-feeling. There are stools at high tables, lower ones for small and large groups, and lounge-y low chairs and tables in the back if you want a bit more seclusion. Everything's still very new and clean, and is a mix of industrial/shabby-chic (think old luggage trunks for tables, glued-together Jenga blocks for menu holders, and tin buckets for your cutlery). Parts of it seem almost trying a bit too hard to be funky, but it's not overbearing. The food is mostly familiar pub items (schnitzel, burger, fish and chips) but with a few nice additions. The pulled pork roll is excellent. And their chips are delicious across the board, with lots of rosemary salt making them a cut above the average. They have lunch specials. They often have live music in the evenings. Their wine menu is small but better than pub average (Mudgee barbera, anyone? Yes please!). The only thing I find a bit annoying is that they have segregated counter areas for ordering food and drinks. I'm kinda disappointed to be leaving Marrickville now that the Ritz is here.

New! It must be a brand new pub. There was never a pub here before…read more.. Turns out, after some research, that the Ritz holds the license from the old owners of the Henson Park hotel. I was curious and It had to be looked up because they have a huge Pokie room here. Which, in our times, the license for is hard to get, let alone a license for a brand new pub. I liked the vibe. A two level pub, still under construction, there is an upstairs area that I snuck a look at. Perhaps a restaurant upstairs soon, and it's own rooftop parking. A good idea considering the traffic will probably spill over into local residential areas otherwise. Marrickville council staff had booked out the entire front section for their Xmas party, truth be told. ( Had me wondering about all the approvals and red tape, just for a laugh...) They were partying hard to the live music act, which sounded good up the front, but the speakers in the back eating area, did no justice to the sound. Volume was wrong. Could do with a better ambient sound system to even out the chat/music ratio. The decor I found to be pretty naff. The big light bulb lit "RITZ" looks cool from the street, but inside, the mix of old barrels which were really awkward to try and eat food on, to the old cable spool, smaller round tables seemed mismatched to the brand new tiling and the pre-print "vintage newspaper" wallpaper. Along with an attempt at rustic, with a mix of old lounge chairs and stuff that looked like it was picked up at council clean up, and brand new upholstered chaise style lounges, to me it was having a bit of an identity crisis. Down to the grit, the food here is really good. I had the Pumpkin and goats cheese Ravioli with some guilty pleasure, Butter and Walnut sauce. The Burger is also pretty tasty. Although I think some places do not understand the need for an actual plate when you order a burger, and that those wooden boards do not work. They have a good selection of Salad choices too. I was torn between a pulled pork roll and the Prawn and chorizo salad or the pasta. In the end I flipped a coin between the pork and the ravioli. I just couldn't choose. Thanks to "heads" I was pretty happy with my meal. They have some really good Wine choices, for a reasonable by the glass price. Beer on tap included Fat Yak. Cool for over 30s crowd. Was pretty packed for a Friday night. Parking is currently hard to get. A good edition to an ever gentrified Marrickville.

I'm not sure there's an elevator so if you aren't able to walk up two flights of stairs, better give them a ringy-dingy before you head over. We went for the Jazz but started out in the 2nd floor for some finger foods and drinks. What a hoot!! The menu has a good variety of choices and we had the 4 cheese pizza and chips. Both soooooo good! The volume was not so noisy so we could actually talk and hear each other. Then the first band came in and, I'm sorry to say I did not catch their name because they were incredible! Their vocalist has quite a versatile range and adorbs. The guitarists and drummer were da best!!! We sat there longer than planned because song after song was wonderful! And, make sure you check out the ceilings!! Purty interesting to say the least. (If you are more a prudish type, I suggest not looking up. No judgement!) But, eventually we did go to the jazz venue.... Jazz. Hot Jazz! Mellow, delicious and...what can I say? This band was soooo laid back....and talented! Lots of great tunes from the '50's that were well done. Oh and.....definitely (!!!) check out the ceilings in here, too. I can not imagine what this building housed before Lazy Bones, but....just check it out! Parking on a Friday night...not too much in the main drag but we found side streets had plenty of free parking available. One more thing i noticed is the variety of age. Top floor was mostly 20's and up though there was a few more mature people, too. Jazz venue I'd say 30's and older. Yeah...we were the oldies but goodies at both places!! Lol. If you like jazz, if you like good music of any kind, get yoreself over here!!!
