From the outside it looks like just your local run-of-the-mill pub. Upstairs was a very different story. Forget drinks in the city where you end up meeting and greeting your entire facebook list, bring a couple hundred of your closest friends and family to this place. The place is so big it can easily hold that many. There's a separate room at the back to keep all your family's embarrassing antics hidden away, a lounging area with a main bar (with access to the pokies room), and a huge dance floor area with room for all your hired DJ equipment. It's all newly renovated and in perfect condition for you and your friends to make as much noise as you want into the early hours of the morning.

Turbo Trivia is hosted by the notorious drag queen Portia Turbo. It's always good for a laugh and it packs out. Be sure to get there early to secure a table. There also is a Board Gamers meetup group that meets on a Monday night to play board games. Check meetup.com and search for the group Game Lovers for more information. The club also has a restaurant with Asian and Aussie cuisine which is reasonably priced. Discounts if you're a member. There is also a cafe who's serves coffee, tea and cakes. There is also a outdoors smokers area, snooker tables, pokie machines etc. Membership is cheap and also gives you access to the Castle Hill RSL Club for discounts for food and drinks, which is owned by the same people. Membership at Castle Hill RSL costs about $80 a year so having this access is a great bonus.

This is a small bar in the suburbs, so already a rarity. It's relaxed and casual. It's also not tragically hipster, which is a real rarity for a small bar. The drink selection is good (but not huge) with some nice craft beers and ciders. The food looks amazing though. Superb looking burgers. Amazing looking steaks. We very nearly cancelled our booking next door and ate here instead. We didn't though. We had a very nice meal next door and will have to eat (rather than just look at) the food next time. And yet, I wasn't expecting this familiarity to follow me to Sydney. Between walking through The Courty's front doors to finding a rare empty table in the buzzing courtyard out back, you inevitably run into someone you know. In country towns, this is because there's no where else to go. In Newtown, it's because you wouldn't want to go anywhere else. Monday to Sunday, the courtyard is packed with hundreds of indie 20-somethings slurping ciders, scooping sour cream onto wedges and screaming to be heard over the raucaus laughter of the three other groups of people sitting at their table. Capturing the heart of Inner West casual cool, there is nothing boastful about The Courthouse.
