This is going to be a great review. Trust me! I am from US. I made a reservation here to stay 14…read moredays. When I got here, we discovered a number of things: 1) it is a pub/hotel , which meant that it is not a hotel proper. The rooms to rent are above the hotel and that is 40 steps and no lift to the rooms. Being 71 and my wife 62 with bad knees, this was an impossibility. You may think, " What so great about this review? " It is the owners. When we got there, we discovered our credit cards were not working (forgot to notify our bank before leaving) The young women helping us was trying to give us all kinds of solutions, but nothing was working. I, finally, got the cards working, but by then, the owner showed up and told us that we didn't want to stay there, telling us the story of the pub/hotel and the 40 steps. Then he sat down and started helping us find another hotel, then eliminating the current reservation. Afterward, we sat down had lunch, some of the best fish and chips we have ever eaten. I ordered a beer, which he comped me. Seriously!! We will be doing a miniature show across the street this weekend and I will be having more of those delicious fish and chips (and beer which I will pay for) These people are awesome!!

Okay, it isn't the only one,…read morebut it was a pleasant surprise this far out of the city, and the fact that it is a short walk from the railway station is even better. In fact this pub is quite large, and it certainly picks up after dark. It certainly looks like a pretty decent place to have a beer, or even spend some time with friends.

Having now sampled it's delights, will we become regulars? No. Probably not. The Railway is your basic suburban pub. It has been a hotel since 1888 and has remained essentially unchanged (except for the odd coat of paint) since they got rid of the 6 o clock swill and started to to allow women inside in the 1960s. The craft beer revolution has entirely missed the railway. It's still all Carlton Draft, Tooheys New and VB. They do have one lone Squire's beer (one fifty lashes.. The craft VB) on tap for their more sophisticated clientele. Their wine selection is pretty ordinary. For the cider drinkers they have strongbow. Their spirits selection... Well let's just say there isn't a top shelf. This is all pokies, Tab, Keno, bad carpets and giant screens showing the horses and footy. There is a nightclub of sorts and a tiny bottle shop. There is an outdoor courtyard but it's no beer garden... That's the smoking area. The attached bistro is pretty good though. That's worth checking out. And the show was fantastic. They are going to do them monthly and we will definitely be back for more of them. The pub though... Might give that a miss.

I stayed here for a few days to attend a wedding. Definitely did not give a good first impression…read more We went to check-in to our room (we had 2 bookings for 2 rooms), they only found one of the two bookings. They spent about 30 minutes looking for the other booking. Turns out it was a problem with the website we booked with. Anyways, after about 30 minutes of waiting around in the lobby, they just decided to send us to one of the rooms that we booked to wait instead. They told us that they would come up in 15 minutes to give us the keys to the other room. 45 minutes later...no one comes up. We call reception from the room phone, it somehow goes to another department and we had to be redirected ( aka the tags on the phone were wrong). They tell us they will come up shortly with the keys. Another 15 minutes later, we finally get the keys to the other room. A day later, the internet server dies. We call the reception and they say it will be fixed later that day. Later that day, it STILL is not fixed and then they tell us it will be fixed tomorrow. Tomorrow morning, it is still not fixed and they claim they are working on it. Later that night, it is FINALLY fixed. The facilities are pretty nice, rooms are quite spacious and I like how the office area is apart from the beds so one person can work while the other sleeps. They have a wide range of tv channels. Overall, the only issue I had with this hotel was the initial impression and the internet problem, otherwise, the rooms and other amenities are quite impressive.

Look, it wasn't too bad, though I did find it rather difficult to find the entrance. In fact, it seemed to have been built in favour of people with cars as opposed to people on foot. However, it did have a nice beer garden and a good selection of beers, so I guess I can't be too harsh on it.

This is such a rubbish venue. Poor service, rude staff, awful food, overpriced drinks. Against…read morebetter judgement went there tonight to meet a group of friends. Was carded at the door - I'm a middle aged woman in my mid 50s! - they were serious, had to take my driver's licence out of my wallet so they could check the expiry date. This is positively the worst pub in Sydney plus it's seriously overpriced for the food that they serve. And usually a poor response to customs queries.
