When is a roast dinner not a roast dinner? When it's served with mash instead of roast potatoes. It's a crazy world we live in.

The courtyard is a nice place to eat/drink if the sun is out. Inside is cosy without being overcrowded. Staff are friendly and attentive (though not always if you are in the courtyard). Pizza's are a naughty but amazing treat. Their "Alaskan King Crab Lingeullini with Chili, Lemon et al." is a great lunch main - though wasn't 'chili enough' for people I was dining with. I went for a brunch option and had their "Croque Monsieur" which can be summed up as a posh toasted cheese & ham sandwich. I was a little disappointed with the portion size, but loved every bite of it. A perfectly cooked brioche with melted cheese, ham and a hint of french mustard was extremely moreish. I was happy to wash it down with a large coffee. I would recommend stopping by and trying Mrs Sippy if you are in the Double bay area, though consider the weather if you are going to be outside/in the courtyard.

At first I thought it was a cafe but it turned out to be a bar. However I ended up ordering a pot of tea (though probably should have had a beer). Anyway, the place is really nice, and the pot that came out was also pretty cool. However the thing that really put me off this place was the service. In fact it doesn't matter how nice a place is, bad customer service pretty much destorys it. However, I'm still willing to give it another shot if I ever happen to be down this way again.

Ground floor had some spaces…read moreavailable and clearly had some Christmas groups celebrating and rubbing shoulders with the locals. Elephant bar (first floor) was relatively empty but the DJ was just warming up with some chilled deep house tunes- this clearly is a better-later-on option. The music from the DJ was piped through second floor and rooftop as well. The second floor was heaving with a private function in one area, and lots of groups filling up the seating for the food (my friend had heard the steaks were good). We ended up going for the $15 burger and fries - which were simple, fresh, came out quickly, and tasty (compared to some other establishments who are trying too hard with their oversized American style burgers). The one down side is the place is very noisy when busy, and I am sure the gloss ceilings are not helping, making it hard to hear our friends in conversations. We also finally managed to get a spot on the rooftop after a few attempts (it is a very small space), which was fantastic and the view of the city was great and topped off the night. All in all a great place to try..

Let me tell you upfront: There is no elevator. You will have to climb up all those stairs. I huffed…read moreand puffed my way up there and it was a mad house once I arrived. Seems to be a popular place. Several parties were going on, seemed like a bachelorette party, a birthday, a group of folks all dressed in pink and another group dressed like flappers. It was extremely loud and unfortunately I was not able to make my way to an area where I could have checked out the view. It is semi covered by a roof and then there is an open air area, but the are large umbrellas you can hide under. I had a nice little drink and enjoyed the people watching. They have quite a drink menu and also offer some food, but that is rather limited. Just come up here for the drinks and the party atmosphere. I have to say that the bartenders are very nice.

The staircase had a few more steps than I had thought but since the walls were covered with a rather nifty form of graffiti art sort of fun. Overall I found the seating and general atmosphere of being up on the roof top extremely pleasant and sort of a welcome relief from being on street level. The general set up with bar and food service is really good, orderly, neat, clean, trendy and fun. For food, I went for the for their Wagyu flat iron steak. Though listed on their menu as barbecue it actually came grilled, but that might be because Australians, as is the much the same situation in the United States north of the Mason Dixon line, are oblivious to the differences between "barbecuing" and "grilling." Hence when Australians say they are going to "toss whatever on the barbie," they actually mean they are going to toss it upon an open grill. Nevertheless, the steak was really good, served with a nice side salad. My dining companion, Yelper Jim D., ordered the salmon skewers which were likewise perfectly grilled, served with a side of greens and topped with a sprig of fresh dill in what was not only delicious but eye appealing. Because of the good food, reasonable prices and nifty rooftop location, I haven't any hesitation in being a fan of Sweetheart's or of recommending it.

In Sydney, Eau de Vie is better translated as a dim and sultry bar responsible for some of the most creative cocktails in the city. Make reservations, and consider coming during the week when the crowds may be a bit more tolerable. They also boast some specials such as $1 Islay oysters on Thursdays and in Whiskey and Cheese Wednesdays. The Wednesday special is a particularly great deal as 40 AUD gets you a pairing of 5 cheese and 5 whiskies. On our visit, we managed to get lucky with Japanese Suntory whiskey night. Getting to compare the Chita Grain, Suntory Kakubin, Hibiki Harmony, Hakushu DR, and Yamazaki DR side by side was not only a treat for the palate, but made it easier to identify distinctive differences between each. The cocktails themselves come with quirky names, and list of unique ingredients. Lapsang Souchong, red miso, and even Parmesan were used to compliment the various liquors. Most importantly, they manage to slay on the taste in addition to the creativity factor. Not sure how long they stay on the menu, but for example the Black Lantern (Laphroaig 10 yo whiskey, Chivas 12 yo whiskey, coconut and red bean milk, with salt and sesame) was a well balanced masterpiece. The Popcorn Flip (Martell VS Cognac, Curaco, White Chocolate, Honey, Egg, Popcorn; Served Up) was like dessert in a glass. For those looking to pair their drinks with a bit more, Eau de Vie has small "Grazing" items such as potato croquettes, and pork terrine. Also, they offer larger "Plates" like steak slider (severed with 3) or scallops on the half shell. If all that wasn't enough to whet your palette, they adtionally have either single serve selections of meat and cheeses or tasting boards with an assortment of items ready to order. All in all a solid selection to savor alongside your drink of choice. While finding the speakeasy-esque bar off the street may not be the easiest feat, it is certainly worth the effort to do so.

This was our last stop on a secret bar cocktail birthday crawl for the ages, and by the beard of Zeus did it deliver. Straight up, a massive fanboy shout-out to Joy and Camille, who went out of their way to look after us with smiles and good grace even after we were super late for our booking courtesy of some neglectful service at another bar. They looked after the every person in the place with fun, courtesy, care and laughter, here are two hosts who love their jobs and man, it makes for a shit hot experience as a punter, I didn't want to leave. And the cocktails. We'd been slugging booze for the last 4 hours and these still blew us put of our pants and into something more delicious - a White Negroni and a Smoky Bacon Old Fashioned are my new favourite tipples (see you in hell, whisky sour, your services are no longer required). Classy, romantic, fun, fabulous, and everything in between. Best.
