We dropped our bags on a table and the girl taking orders was helpful and patient with us while we made our choices. Turns out it was pizza night, all you can eat for $15. Husband was in heaven! Technically everyone at the table has to order it, but our girl let me order pasta carbonara. We got our beers and a buzzer for food pickup. The room was busy, but a bunch of tables left and staff stayed on it to clear and set the tables for new customers. Pizza was delivered and shortly after the buzzer went off. Everything was delicious! This place is well worth stopping for food and drink. It's noisy, but in a good way!

Although a little pricey we would definitely come back and eat here again. We had the: 1) half pork ribs in the BBQ sauce - a little dry, so ask for extra sauce 2) Mac and cheese - very tasty with bacon bits 3) chicken wings - best we have tasted out of the USA, although the blue cheese mayo dip was not so good, make sure to ask for a side of ranch. Extensive cocktail list and plenty of beer on tap. Make sure to try the Guava-Tini very nice :)

There is a courtyard with two levels of seating and at least two different rooms inside. As others have said, they do seem to cater to smokers, but we were able to find a spot that was pretty much smoke free in the courtyard. It was quite busy as we arrive about 5:30 and there were a lot of locals that appeared to have just gotten off work and were enjoying drinks. It is near/in the CBD close to the train station. They have copper beer tanks which are supposed to be filled with fresh Carlton Draught beer directly from the brewery. I tried it, and it didn't seem to maker the beer any better. Maybe it does taste different, but I could not tell. They did have a good beer selection overall. What seems to be somewhat typical in the area, we ordered at the bar, and were give a buzzer to let us know when our food was ready. We then went and picked it up from the counter along with utensils. We had the Crispy Skin Pork Belly and the Crab ravioli Both were very tasty and exceeded our expectations. The only reason They get 4 instead of 5 stars is the smoking and that we didn't really finds a designated non-smoking area. I'd go there again.

The Criterion, post PJs renos, is a standard faux-Irish pub slap bang in the middle of the city…read more(close to Town Hall). Being close to where I used to work, I'd frequent this place quite a bit, and before it was a PJs it was a mates fave city pub so we'd catch up over a few here from time to time. There's a pretty good mix of people in the street-level bar, and PJs have converted it into more of a sports bar so there are plenty of screens for the sports nuts to check out their favourite teams prospects. PJs typically have pretty good fare. In winter they have two absolute cracking dishes. The Guiness Pie with mushy peas, and their signature lamb shanks which is totally unctuous. Why such a modest score? Price kills the place. It's not one of the cheaper places to get a beer as someone incorrectly states in their tips, it's easily one of the most expensive places to get a beer. You're paying over the top prices for domestic tap beer. A cheap beer is $5 for a Coopers Pale Ale, which you can get on the same street about 200m up the road... Also... As much as I enjoy a good pokie section, this one ain't good. And by that I mean the clientelle. It brings in the undesireable types, and sours what is otherwise a sweet pub. The snug, the downstairs den, has a great looking bar, and "snug" seating, but it's kinda pointless down there. It doesn't feel snug, it feels stuffy and claustrophobic - and the bar has never been manned when I've been down there. Now, if they moved the pokies to the snug, and then opened up the entire bar at the street-level to include the room vacated by the pokie section, you'd have something. But why would they do that when they can get by with what they have.

Being in the city, it can get quite busy very quickly and is a decently sized basement multi-storied pub. TV screens are usually are usually playing Fox sports or something similar. I order the Parmy, just to be on the the safe side. I wasn't too game to try the Pie which is supposed to be one of the best (as judged by Irish people I work with) around. The food is carefully prepared and you can tell the produce is quality and they've cooked it properly which some pubs sometimes struggle to do consistently... The chips were the standout side, crisp and crunchy! Definitely will be trying the stew or pie, that is if I'm brave enough to.

My wife and I are both members of Dooley's but we'd never experienced their Waterview restaurant…read more Although we did enjoy ourselves here, there were a few issues that compromised our experience. There were two seating areas, family side and adult side. The adult side was quieter and felt just that bit more relaxing. We ordered drinks, they brought out my wife's wine but forgot my beer. I asked about their pizza of the day and was told that it was a pulled pork pizza, which I ordered. Twenty minutes passed and our food comes out. I was THEN informed that it wasn't a pulled pork pizza but a meat lovers. Something I believe they should have told me before processing our order. I wasn't in the mood to reorder so I just took it and inquired about my beer. A few minutes later it arrived at our table without so much as a "sorry for the wait" or "sorry we forgot." Do NOT misjudge a man's desire for his beer! The pizza was boring and bland at first and by some weird turn of events improved in flavour ten fold by the end. I'm boiling it down to the rate I was drinking my beer. My wife's Linguine Gamberi was perfect, just the way she likes it. After dinner we ordered desert. Two servings of churros (although one shared would have suited us). They were great; hazelnut ice-cream, hot chocolate syrup for dunking and a strawberry. Paying the bill was a disaster. (Info. about Dooley's members: During your birthday month you are awarded 2000 reward points which you can put towards your meal, 2000 points = $20 off. However you can ONLY use them during your birthday month otherwise they expire). The staff member didn't use our points and we ended up paying full (members) price. We didn't realise until we were walking towards the exit, so we did a 180 and talked to another staff member who came to the register. We explained what had happened and he in turn tried to convince us that the points last until the end of the financial year. This is only true for regular points earned - trust us, we found out the hard way. So he had to input our whole order into the machine, refund it back onto the card, redo our whole order again and then added the discount. There was no "sorry for the inconvenience" or "sorry for the wait." I'm saying that that day was just a bad roll of the dice for us. Some things cannot be excused, but I'll give them a second chance.

In the past I've walked into this place, signed in with driver's license and done. But it seems they recently expanded their club sign in radius so now I live to close to sign in easily. I was basically forced to become a member or refused entry into the club. Becoming a member does cost. This felt invalid because I don't go this joint enough to justify bothering to becoming a member. Nor is this club even remotely interesting or decent enough to either. The food or atmosphere is not worth to even bother with the amount of time and money wasted trying to get in. The customer service was pitiful, honestly I get through Australian customs better than this and I have trouble with AU customs. I don't recommend this place before or after I experience bad service.
