Close to Sydney Olympic Park, and within walking distance of Massey Park Golf Course, Hotel Concord…read moreis a great spot to unwind and have a quick drink on a Friday afternoon. The recently refurbished establishment isn't the type of place you would want to spend all day in, but it has its charms, and in my opinion, is a lot better than some of the other pubs around Concord (but then again, that isn't saying much!). Facilities offered at Hotel Concord include: * TAB * Bottle-shop * Accommodation- rooms start from $60 for a single room, up to $160 for the family room (four single beds, one sofa bed). * Reasonably priced bistro meals (the $11 Big Beef Burger is pretty good). * Fox and Sky channels * Juke box * Public phone (how rare are those nowadays?) * EFTPOS facilities ($20 minimum) and an A.T.M. * Hotel shuttle boat offering transport between Cabarita and Circular Quay. * Wednesday Night Trivia from 7pm onwards. * Thursday Night Poker from 5pm-9pm. $2000 prize money. * Pokies

Let's be fair, this is not a high end hotel. It's medium priced and in this precinct with 3 other…read morehotels ( high end Pullman, budget Ibis and low-med priced Ibis), there is very limited other buffet breakfast ( or dinner )option. We were there for breakfast only, and can only review lobby and breakfast impression. Breakfast is inclusive of coffee, juices, hot food ( bacon, eggs, hash brown), cold selection like fruit, muesli, yoghurt, cheeses and bread, pastries and 1 Asian congee breakfast selection. It's nothing special but it's not terrible either. The brasserie is quite spacious as it extends across what looks like 3 sitting area, there are the dining tables, bar tables, and couches. The inclusion of cafe style coffee here may be important for some people as in some other buffet there is often only instant or plunger coffee. Service is lovely, which again is not always the case in many other buffet.

To put it mildly, the food here was disparagingly poor. We were on our way to watch a concert at…read moreAcer Arena (now allphone's arena) on Valentine's day at the beginning of the year and knew the restaurant at the arena would be packed because of this occasion. We headed in to the Novotel with high hopes - they had it decorated especially for the day, with a special Valentine's Day menu too. I don't know if the chef's had never actually cooked anything on that menu before, but it seemed like they just wrote down a list of things that looked appetising when described, and whipped up something to resemble said appetising dish. We waited twenty minutes to make our orders and even longer to receive them. By the time I received my sole (a type of flatfish) it was only just warm and the chips (which were really well presented in a little mesh basket) were cold and stale. It was more than horrible. There were heaps of little bones I had to pick through without being able to taste any of the fish whatsoever, it was just this whole fish chucked on a smaller plate. I could see bits of the fin broken off too where it had obviously been frozen and crushed up in the freezer. It was just so disappointing. I won't be dining back here or recommending this place to anyone else that's for sure.

First reviewer woot! This is review is a little overdue but must be done. I've seen a lot of…read morearticles about various Pulled Pork burgers/rolls in Sydney (and eaten even more) and Palate never gets a mention. Guys, ya'll have to make your way here because these guys may have THE BEST pulled pork in Sydney. Slightly sweet, savoury pork with julienned apple pieces on a beautiful brioche bun. Anyway! This place is great for brunch, lunch and dinner. There's a selection of teas and a great outdoor area. The inside is rustic and the staff are super friendly. The food menu is good and I highly doubt anyone would lack options.

So I tried this place about 2 months back for dinner and went again for lunch this week. I'm sort…read moreof confused by this place and giving it a rating was difficult. Here's why. 1. The place is presented beautifully. Almost something you would consider to be a bit of an almost Melbournesque eatery, exposed brick walls, cute mismatched decor and dark inside. But the theme is quite confused - almost GoT style in one dining room with a big green chandelier mural on the wall and throne-type seating. I didn't get it. 2. The owner makes a big effort to speak to you personally and ensure the staff are looking after you - which they're not really and I think it's his presence that keeps them working. When we went for dinner, the owner took our details promising the launch of a crab house in the coming weeks. That obviously hasn't happened and there's been no update at all so will be interesting to see what happens there. 3. The menu sucks and the food is average. There's just not enough on offer and at a range of prices (remembering it's a 10min walk from the UWS parra campus). Lunch was a selection of 4 burgers, one vego salad, a pan fried salmon (at $30!) and a chicken breast. Meh. I want a healthy sandwich, or a selection of salads, something more!! (And yes, I'm channelling Open City here, or anything in the USA). I don't remember the extent of the dinner menu but it was definitely short. So 3 stars for the owner because I liked him, and also the fact that he's done up an old pub that would clearly be a bit of a dump and has a nice feel inside. Definitely room for improvement.
